Marijuana-logues – 06.If Pot Could Talk

Tesla shares reel as executives quit and CEO smokes pot on webcast

Reuters) – Tesla Inc Chief Executive Elon Musk was filmed smoking marijuana and wielding a sword on a webcast, just hours before the automaker said its recently-appointed accounting chief would leave, the latest in a string of unusual behaviour and executive departures that have stunned investors. Shares of the electric carmaker tumbled more than 6 percent on Friday to $263.24, with investors on edge after a tumultuous August during which Musk proposed and then abruptly pulled the plug on a go-private deal. Chief Accounting Officer Dave Morton resigned after just one month in the job because of discomfort with the attention on the company and pace of work during that time, Tesla said in a filing on Friday. Later on Friday, Tesla named a new president of automotive operations, promoting eight-year Tesla employee and former Daimler truck exec Jerome Guillen into the role overseeing all automotive operations and reporting to Musk. That move, described in a company blog with several other promotions as a result of board and management discussions, gives Musk a seasoned auto industry veteran to lean on at a time when some investors have called for a new chief operating officer. Shares barely moved after hours, when the promotions were announced.

Morton and Toledano, whose departures come shortly after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission opened an inquiry into Musk’s aborted privatisation plan, join dozens of senior executives who have left Tesla. Late on Thursday, Musk was filmed drinking whiskey, briefly smoking marijuana and wielding a Samurai sword during a 2-1/2-hour live Web show with comedian Joe Rogan that swiftly spread across social media. Analysts on Friday reiterated their call for Tesla to bring in another senior leader. SOBERING EFFECT ON INVESTORS.Tesla’s $1.8 billion junk bond maturing in August 2025 plunged as much as 4 cents on the dollar to below 82 cents, a record low, in Friday trading, pushing the yield above 8.8 percent.

Coupled with an upfront cost of 21 percent of insured value, it now costs an investor around $280,000 to insure $1 million of Tesla debt for a year. With Tesla’s stock falling to its lowest level since April, short sellers added 810,000 shares to their positions, bringing the total as of Thursday to about 32.6 million shares, according to S3 Partners, a financial technology and analytics firm. Tesla has told investors it expects to turn a profit in the second half of this year, a forecast the company’s head of investor relations, Martin Viecha, reiterated at a conference earlier this week sponsored by RBC Capital Markets, RBC analyst Joseph Spak wrote in a note on Thursday.

7 Comedians Who Enjoy Marijuana

Although weed can definitely highlight what’s weird about your surrounding or amplify already-comedic situations, it can’t instill a fully-developed sense of humor. Doug Benson’s comedy career revolves almost entirely around his love of cannabis. Benson created the 2008 documentary Super High Me, a druggy take on Morgan Spurlock’s McDonald’s exposé Super Size Me, in which Benson smokes weed in huge quantities every day for a month. Like a trippy version of Mike Nichols and Elaine May, collaborators Kate Berlant and John Early showcase a weird brand of character-based comedy in seemingly improvised skits like Family Dinner and Reunion. Berlant and Early’s deadpan comedy is deeply rooted in the same pseudo-intellectual and fame-obsessed millennial culture that it satirizes, making for an especially meta comedy experience.

Each of the two wrote and starred in full episodes of the 2016 Netflix original comedy The Characters – Early’s episode totally nails some cringe-worthy identities like a self-absorbed yuppie party host and a sassy but depressed Christian comedienne. Dave Chappelle staked a claim to stoner fandom early on in his career, having written, produced, and starred in the 1998 cannabis classic Half Baked. Chappelle briefly bowed out of the spotlight after Chappelle’s Show was canceled in 2006 and now lives a low-key life with his family in suburban Ohio. A recent GQ interview with Chappelle yields some other great nuggets: he may have bought weed from Idris Elba back in the day, and once requested permission to smoke weed onstage from crack-smoking Toronto mayor Rob Ford. Jason Segel doesn’t just play a cannabis enthusiast on TV.

He’s well known for his love of weed, and has made a name for himself as a leading man in comedies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Jeff, Who Lives At Home, blending bumbling antics with undeniable sincerity. George Carlin is one of the first and arguably best full-fledged observational comedians. Carlin’s countercultural humor was at least partially fueled by cannabis: in a retrospective interview with Jon Stewart, he claimed to.

Rick and Morty’s Cannabis Subculture Warps Into Los Angeles

Trip out and chill in the Meatwad 4D Dome, or dive into a virtual-reality experience inspired by Dream Corp LLC, the Adult Swim show set in a sketchy dream-therapy facility. At 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 7th, Rick and Morty get a live showcase as composer Ryan Elder leads a 37-piece orchestra through musical highlights from the show in a Musical Ricksperience. As we prepare to run around at the Adult Swim Festival, we asked ourselves: why is there such a solid Rick and Morty. Just as cannabis helps connect us to the present moment, and enjoy things as they unfold, Rick and Morty deems friends, family, and doing what we love much more important than unanswerable questions about why we’re here in the first place.

Take the McDonald’s Szechuan sauce debacle, for instance. Twitter had a meltdown, and everyone had a good time making fun of Rick and Morty. Fan art is one of the most wonderful interpretative things in the world, and the weed-loving creatives who watch Rick and Morty have left no artistic pickle unjarred. To the fan art pot-culture pantheon with his collection of joints in the shape of Rick, Morty, and iconic characters Mr. Meeseeks and Mr.

Poopybutthole. To pairing a different strain of cannabis with each episode of the show. If you think your love of a TV show makes you better or smarter than other people, you should smoke a joint, and think about how you’re missing the point. Tickets to the Adult Swim Festival Oct. 5-7 are available here. The festival does not permit medical or recreational cannabis onsite.

Legalize Marijuana 420 – Keith Lowell Jensen Stand-Up Comedy

High times: why TV is getting blazed on cannabis comedies

For years, marijuana was portrayed as either an evil gateway drug or as a prop to signify that the character using it was a hopeless, lazy slacker. While drug use on TV is not regulated by FCC rules, there are certain moral guidelines that networks were obliged to uphold, at least before 10pm. When the counter culture movement was thoroughly under way, the small screen dealt with it in one of three ways: ignoring it altogether, actively preaching against it or portraying it slyly, as exemplified by Scooby Doo’s perma-stoned heroes, Shaggy and Scooby, who made their TV debut long before Cheech and Chong showed up in the 70s. By the 1980s Miami Vice was tackling drugs and Nancy Reagan was making a bizarre cameo in Diff’rent Strokes to promote the Just Say No campaign. For a long time any show that wanted to be positive about the issue had to side-step it, like That 70s Show, where the characters got stoned without a single spliff being seen on screen.

As attitudes towards weed soften and with it being decriminalized – if not quite legalized – in many more US states, the depiction of marijuana on TV is changing. Now we see characters using it in the same way that you’d previously show characters having a drink; it’s a recreational activity that doesn’t have any moralizing attached to it. Characters in Girls, Broad City, Mr Robot and more smoke, without it leading to a worthy storyline about addiction or a descent into crime. HBO has set the bar high by turning web series High Maintenance into a hit show this month. Each episode tells a different story, featuring different characters, all linked by the unnamed man who delivers their weed.

The characters all smoke, but that’s not the main focus. The show is brilliantly unexpected – the first episode provides a wonderful subversion of the friendship between a gay man and a straight woman – but the weed is simply a device to explore these disparate characters. Netflix has also gotten in on the trend, ordering 20 episodes of Chuck Lorre’s Disjointed, a comedy starring Kathy Bates as the owner of an LA-based cannabis dispensary, and Kevin Smith, a man who knows a thing or two about writing stoner characters, has filmed a spec pilot about a weed dispensary in LA. Even NBC has been considering a weed show, with Parks and Recreation star Adam Scott’s Buds, a comedy set in a marijuana shop in Denver. Not all drugs are getting the comedy treatment – heroin and meth are still the reserve of heavy-going dramas – but TV producers have clearly loosened up when it comes to cannabis.

Elon Musk smokes weed, sips whiskey on a comedy show

Elon Musk sipped whiskey and smoked marijuana during a 2 1/2-hour podcast with California comedian Joe Rogan that touched upon everything from flame throwers and artificial intelligence to the end of the universe. Musk, 47, took one drag from what Rogan described as a joint containing tobacco mixed with marijuana, which is legal in California. A Tesla spokesperson in Germany wasn’t immediately available to comment. The spot on one of the most popular podcasts in the US marks Musk’s first appearance in a public forum since he stunned the financial world last month with his short-lived effort to take Tesla private. Along the way, Musk drew a subpoena from the Securities and Exchange Commission, which already had been scrutinizing the public pronouncements he’s made regarding manufacturing goals and sales targets.

Tesla and its CEO are now also facing a litany of lawsuits claiming market manipulation, including one filed Thursday by Andrew Left, the founder of Citron Research and prominent short seller. The episode also raised concern about Musk’s health. The bewildering incidents have played out during a critical period for Tesla. The Palo Alto, California-based company faces concerns about its limited cash balance, maturing debt and struggle to steadily build high volumes of the Model 3 sedan, the first electric vehicle that Musk has attempted to mass-manufacture. Musk told Rogan that running Tesla is the hardest of his several endeavors.

Musk is also the founder of the tunneling startup Boring Co., plus Neuralink, which is developing brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers. Neuralink may have something interesting to announce in a few months, Musk told Rogan.

Comedy sketch imagines a sobriety test for stoners / Boing Boing

CBC Comedy sketch comedy series 22 Minutes humorously imagines what a pot sobriety test might look like, cookie dough and all. People make art because they have to, and there’s always a middle-man ready to take advantage of the oversupply of willing creators to grab our rights and pay us peanuts. No matter how diligent we are about managing them, there’s always a mountain of clutter waiting for us when we start our day. That’s why demand is high for experts who can keep these businesses online. Now, demand alone won’t get your foot in the door, as employers expect you to bring some certifications to the table that validate your skills.

Elon Musk to resign as board chairman of Tesla, pay $20 million fine

That’s a high price to pay for a stupid pot joke. Elon Musk must step down as chairman of the board of Tesla for three years – and he and the car company will each forfeit $20 million – under a punishing settlement forced by the Securities and Exchange Commission. When first questioned by the SEC, Musk confessed that he had settled on the $420 figure to make a dumb pot joke to impress his girlfriend. Musk will remain chief executive of Tesla, the SEC said in announcing the settlement Saturday. In accepting the settlement terms, Musk has neither admitted nor denied the SEC’s civil allegations that he committed fraud by misleading his investors.

The settlement terms are slightly tougher than those Musk had rejected during negotiations Thursday, The New York Times reported, citing two people briefed on the talks. Those earlier terms would have barred him from serving as chairman for two years instead of three and would have cost him a $10 million fine instead of $20 million. The SEC made an initial hardball offer before filing Thursday’s lawsuit, under which Musk would have stepped down for two years as both chair and CEO, effectively severing all ties to Tesla. The SEC slap comes two months after Musk earned the feds’ ire with a Wall Street-blindsiding Aug. 7 tweet teasing that he planned to take the company private. Tesla’s own executives had been caught unawares.

He had calculated a potential share price of $419 by taking that day’s closing share price and tacking on a 20 percent premium, the feds alleged in the lawsuit. Earlier this month, Tesla fell to its lowest point in five months after he smoked marijuana on a Joe Rogan podcast.

Elon Musk smokes marijuana live on web show

YOUTUBE/POWERFULJRE Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has smoked marijuana live on the web during a podcast with comedian Joe Rogan. Mr Rogan offered his guest the drug, which is legal in California, as the pair discussed tech innovation and the public’s perception of Mr Musk. Tesla shares fell more than nine per cent following Mr Musk’s appearance on the show. BBC business correspondent Kim Gittleson says the podcast appearance coupled with the departure of a key executive who blamed increasing public scrutiny of the company for his decision to leave has shaken investor confidence in Tesla. His controversial plans regarding Tesla’s ownership were dropped about two weeks later, following outrage from some investors.

From his frequent tweet storms, to accusing a British rescue diver in Thailand of pedophilia, to a quick u-turn on an effort to take Tesla private – it’s no wonder both investors and his closest friends have begun to worry. When it comes to Tesla, the erratic behaviour of Mr Musk might be the least of the company’s problems. Tesla has long been one of the most bet-against stocks on Wall Street. While that’s something that has long frustrated Mr Musk, this certainly won’t change that. During the podcast, Mr Rogan offered Mr Musk a joint, which he said contained a mix of tobacco and marijuana – dried leaves and flowering parts of the female cannabis plant.

During their conversation, Mr Musk talked about his health and his management of Tesla – which he said was the most challenging of his various businesses and projects. To close the podcast, Mr Musk was asked if he had any concluding remarks.

Elon Musk smokes marijuana on Joe Rogan’s podcast

Tesla’s Elon Musk provoked another Twitter storm on Friday by briefly smoking marijuana on a live web show with comedian Joe Rogan. The forty-seven year old billionaire spent two and a half hours on a podcast late Thursday discussing everything from artificial intelligence and its impact on humankind to flame throwers and social media. Musk stunned investors a month back with tweets saying he had funding to take the company private for $420 per share. He then backed off from his plan saying Tesla was better off as a public company. He followed it up with fresh attacks on British cave diver Vernon Unsworth.

Neither Tesla nor Musk have commented on the Buzzfeed report. Musk apologized to Unsworth in July for similar insults he made on Twitter following the rescue of a dozen Thai schoolboys and their football coach from a cave in Thailand. The billionaire’s behaviour has raised concerns about his leadership and several Wall Street analysts have called for the company to appoint a strong No. 2 to prop up Tesla’s operations and standing with investors. His followers on Twitter went into a frenzy following the podcast. Several followers questioned if it was against the company’s policy, while others mocked the CEO’s initial $420 bid, a number that has become code for marijuana.
