Medical Marijuana in Ohio

As September begins, Ohio’s newly formed medical marijuana program continues to be plagued by various delays and failures. As a direct result, our state’s patients, who are in dire need of the treatment cannabis provides, will have to wait even longer for the legal relief they require. On July 31, Buckeye Relief in Eastlake planted the first legal seeds, a momentous day only made possible because the cultivating facility finally received its certificate of operation from the state four days before. The state’s department of commerce can only give up to 12 of these certifications before the September 8 deadline, with potentially more on the way. Buckeye Relief is one of only three growers in the state that has been given the go ahead to start planting, with five more supposedly being allowed to start soon.

Eventually, only 26 licensed growers will be allowed to operate in the entire state. In addition to this already restrictive situation, the state had as many as 104 applications for processing center licenses, which again are necessary for transforming the crops into consumable products, but only 13 have been approved so far – and the state only intends on approving 40. On top of all of this, only 222 doctors have been given the authority to prescribe the drug, which requires a certain amount of training, and even then, there are only 21 medical conditions for which the state allows the drug to be prescribed. Bob Bridges, who sits on the state’s Medical Marijuana Advisory Committee as an advocate for patients, says the registry should be live now, because it would give growers and processors a better estimate of how many patients are looking to consume products. While many of the failed applicants in the various realms of Ohio’s faulty medical marijuana program have chances to re-apply later on down the line, it’s no mystery as to why some of the cannabis entrepreneurs here in the Buckeye State are even contemplating legal action.

The federal government has recognized up to 150 qualifying medical conditions for which cannabis can be at least researched, and those scientific studies have since found that marijuana can be used to treat up to 400 various medical conditions. At the end of the day, with so many different people understanding the various benefits of unrestricted medical marijuana utilization – from patients to scientists to journalists – it’s high time that Ohio’s state officials do the same.

How the Legal Marijuana Industry Is Helping Grow []

Comedians like Doug Benson and Stephen Colbert have been getting a lot of joke-mileage out of Colorado’s legalization of marijuana last January. The name is derived from Khalatbari’s chain of pizza restaurants, Sexy Pizza, one of which hosted the first Sexpot Comedy show early last year. The show has since grown and splintered into several regular events, hosted at different comedy clubs and music venues around town under the Sexpot banner. For years Denver has been a known destination for touring comics; the thirty-year-old Comedy Works has been proclaimed by performers like Dave Chappelle and Dave Attell as their favorite comedy club. Last summer, Juett and comedian Adam Cayton-Holland produced Denver’s first large-scale comedy festival, The High Plains Comedy Festival, which was headlined by Reggie Watts and ended up being a sold-out success.

It was Kayvan Khalatbari’s marijuana dispensary, Denver Relief, that initially sponsored several different comedy shows and podcasts around town, back when Sexpot was just a witty pun being tossed around. While this continues in some arenas, the Sexpot Comedy shows have been gaining a lucrative momentum of their own, in part thanks to Juett’s utilization of the local comedy radio station for marketing, as well as the throbbing enthusiasm coming from Colorado’s energized marijuana scene. There’s no getting around the fact that some cannabis consumption goes on at Sexpot shows, whether through edibles, vaporizers or straight-up smoldering joints. While some Denver comedians don’t care for a stoned audience Andy Juett – who himself has acted in many sketch videos and recently began performing standup – says that there are upsides to playing for a red-eyed crowd. Khalatbari shares Juett’s feeling that marijuana shouldn’t come to dominate the identity of Sexpot Comedy.

He’s derisive of the Cannabis Cup and 420 Festival culture that has become an unfortunate media focus of Colorado marijuana scene; and says that he is equally sick of the endless cosmos-and-munchies jokes that every hack comedian rolls out when performing in Denver. Josiah Hesse is an entertainment and pop culture journalist in Denver, Colorado whose work has appeared in Westword, Out Front Colorado, and comedy blogs LaughSpin, Splitsider and The Spit Take.

SPOILER ALERT. So if you don’t want to know what the movie was about don’t read this. They say a woman whose husband has done her wrong… OK, it might be morose on my part but I sort of want to know more about that, but he is dead already, and she does or doesn’t know much about what he did or didn’t do to her…except that she had to keep mailing letters to an address. She just hangs up on creditors, and throws the mail in the trash and goes around the village like normal…though the neighbors know all about it.

Her gardener, a man that seems to never have held a steady job, has no money, no property; but who is shacking up with a pretty woman who works as a fisherman; is trying to grow pot under other people’s bushes. The plants aren’t doing well, and because this woman, Grace, grows orchids he decides she is a wiz with plants and asks her for help. So they go out in the dead of night, and crawl under bushes and she brings one back, saying she knows they are pot. They harvest it, somewhere in it an ex-fling of her husband keeps showing her face and Grace decides to make friends and THEN gets angry and throws her out when she finds out that her husband had sex and enjoyed it with her. She can’t so now she decides for sure the ex-girlfriend will know a dealer and goes there expecting help.

IF the husband spent any money on this woman, and it would make sense he did; it was never even hinted at in this movie. A dealer comes to the adulterer’s house, he is not big enough, so they get him to take them to a dealer big enough…and it is a pitiful attempt to make the BIG drug dealer look menacing, and totally fails. I can’t really tell how much money it is, or if it will cover Grace’s money needs…all we are given is Grace’s face looking happy and excited. Grace already knew this while she was getting him to help her do this.

Legalizing Marijuana in Canada | RON JAMES

Is it legal to mail marijuana between states? Here’s what federal and state laws say.

Mailing pot across state lines is an incredibly bad idea, according to Erik Altieri, executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. Under the Controlled Substances Act – which was signed into law by President Richard Nixon in 1970 to regulate the manufacture, possession and use of certain drugs – marijuana is a Schedule 1 drug. Drug trafficking penalties vary depending on the schedule of the drug being trafficked and the amount. For less than 50 kilograms of marijuana, the maximum penalty for the first offense is up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000 for a single individual. For the second offense, the maximum penalty doubles: up to 10 years behind bars and a fine not to exceed $500,000.

The DEA lists penalties for more serious crimes on its website. These penalties can apply to both sender and recipient. Marijuana is also the most commonly seized drug by postal inspectors. In fiscal year 2014, inspectors seized 39,301 pounds of marijuana. That number dropped to 34,305 in 2015, the first full fiscal year for which medical marijuana was legal in Colorado and Washington.

Jersey City to Decriminalize Marijuana

Marijuana laws in Jersey City go up in smoke as of Thursday, July 19, as Mayor Steven Fulop and Chief Prosecutor Jake Hudnut direct all Jersey City prosecutors to cease prosecuting marijuana possession cases before the municipal courts. Jersey City will be the first in New Jersey to put forward a policy to address decriminalization on a local level, in the hopes of guiding other towns across the state to enact similar changes to outdated marijuana policies. As the state continues to pass around various versions of a marijuana decriminalization program, Jersey City simply took it upon themselves to spark their own effort. According to the City, there are more than 25,000 arrests for marijuana possession each year in New Jersey-and it is estimated that prosecution following these arrests has cost the state well more than $1 billion each decade in policing, court operations, probation, and jailing.

A Sea of Green (Marijuana Crime Drama/Full Movie)

Medical Marijuana: The Evidence Providence, Rhode Island Motif Magazine

The use of marijuana for medicinal purposes has a long history. Marijuana tea was prescribed in ancient China as early as 2700BC and the plant’s use for medicinal purposes spread throughout Asia, the Middle East and East Africa. The Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Agency have classified marijuana as a schedule I substance. The FDA has approved two drugs that contain a synthetic version of a substance contained in marijuana and one drug that contains a substance that mimics the action of a compound found in marijuana. The FDA has not approved marijuana itself as a safe and effective drug for any indication.

Despite the FDA classification, multiple reviews of medical literature suggest marijuana may be effective in treating other diseases. A clinical review from June 2015 published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reviewed 28 randomized clinical trials that investigated the effectiveness of marijuana in the treatment of chronic pain, neuropathic pain and spasticity due to multiple sclerosis. Several of the trials had positive results and suggest that marijuana and cannabinoids may have some benefit in treating these conditions. A number of major medical associations have weighed in on the potential of marijuana for medical use. They do not advocate for the use of medical marijuana for neurological disorders at this time, citing the need for more research.

Many doctors are now advocating for the use of medical marijuana when indicated. He did caution that there is still much we do not know about marijuana and echoed the call for more research.

Great but Forgotten: Firesign Theater

The record supplying the music was done, and I put another one one. They were a group of four writers/performers who started out doing radio plays and quickly graduated to records. They were as big a revolution in comedy as Monty Python’s Flying Circus, who were starting out around the same time. The group took its name from astrology – all four members were Fire Signs* – with a nod to the old Fireside Theater radio show. They took the conventions of radio drama and added psychedelic sensibilities and wove it all into a dense collection of comic brilliance.

They would stop to listen if they had said thing on the other side of the record, and one half of a phone conversation on one album would have the other half showing up on another. They started out in radio on the west coast, but were signed with Columbia Records, and put out their first album, Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him in 1968. The Further Adventures of Nick Danger, Third Eye is a parody of radio detective shows, with the hero meeting a Peter Lorre type mysterious man. The next album, I Think We’re All Bozos on This Bus was a slight dropoff. Their next album, Not Insane was a disappointment, and they never really recovered, even though they did some good work afterwards.

The group remains together today, doing live shows of their work, and the various permutations also released albums over the years. For their first three albums, they put forth a brand of comedy that was all their own.

In January 2014, Colorado and Washington became the first two states to begin openly selling marijuana on a recreational level. Colorado’s economy boomed, especially in terms of real estate, with everyone wanting to come and see if they could strike it rich in the new industry. All the national exposure Colorado got in the media, sent others flocking here, many not caring at all about cannabis, only everything else the wonderful state offered. Commercial marijuana tours soon followed, guiding the new wave of green tourists behind the scenes. There are now numerous companies offering a range of experiences, from tours of cultivation facilities to cannabis cooking classes and CBD infused massages.

Stoner comedies like Half-Baked and Friday have some distinct similarities to Atlanta. In a few short episodes, Atlanta has already shown itself to be far deeper than your average stoner comedy with its unique style and grander cultural aspirations. The distinct humor of stoner comedies comes from two places. Uses both of these stoner comedy tools to its advantage. The plotting of Atlanta also feels of a piece with stoner comedies.

The first character we meet besides Earn is Vanessa, the mother of Earn’s child and the person with the unenviable duty of nagging him into responsibility. Though Vanessa has far more dimension than the average stoner comedy girlfriend, like many nagging girlfriends before her, she is here to tell Peter Pan to grow up. We also get moments with Earn’s parents to set up the age-old conflict in stoner comedy-the family that wants our hero to grow up versus the friends who want our hero to smoke up. Though Atlanta uses all of these stoner comedy tropes, this series goes further. The absurd fever dreams of stoner comedy are usually used just for laughs.

After the bus incident, Earn sees a dog that he later sees before the gas station shootout, and we something about the dog resonates with us, we see Earn in the stray dog’s eyes. The various conversations that pop up as Earn waits at the police station in episode two address various issues in the criminal justice system.

Trump Confirms He Will Support Bill Ending Federal Marijuana Ban

Talking with reporters Friday morning before heading to G7 in Canada, Trump said he will back a bill that protects states that have legalized marijuana from federal prohibition. The bill, introduced by Sen. Cory Gardner and Elizabeth Warren, would make federal marijuana laws inapplicable in states, federal territories, and tribal lands that have passed legalization measures. Trump’s statement is in opposition to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ stance on the matter as the DOJ has been cracking down on cannabis decriminalization laws under his reign. In the video below, former congressman Billy Tauzin predicts fully legal weed within five years.

Urban Dictionary: Dank

Dank, is an adjective which is over-used by people in general and mostly by people trying to appear cool to their stoner friends. It was originally a common word to describe disgusting basements and caves ect. Then the world of pot took it over and was using it very correctly to describe very potent strains of marijuana, seeing as the definition of dank meets all the qualities you find in good marijuana. In reality it makes them seem as illiterate as an ape. M&M’s are not dank, chips are not dank, and your clothes are definitely not dank, you need to stop overusing and killing the word.

Barry Chuckle of UK comedy duo Chuckle Brothers dies at 73

British children’s entertainer Barry Chuckle, half of sibling duo the Chuckle Brothers, has died at age 73. Barry and his younger brother Paul came from a family of entertainers in northern England – their father performed alongside a young Peter Sellers – and developed a double act that combined visual gags, catchphrases and the brothers’ natural warmth. The brothers typically undertook a new task in each episode, producing slapstick results. The duo were awarded a special British Academy award in 2008 for their contribution to children’s television.

Should the NFL allow marijuana use?

As a federally sanctioned and regulated monopoly, the NFL really has no choice here. The league is also very conscious of the fact that players play in different states. Players are required to pay state income tax for where they play that week, not where they live or play their home games. Local laws have to be honored, as state government is often the source of funding for new stadiums, and most states have not legalized pot.

State officials: Ohio’s medicinal marijuana program won’t be ready by deadline

Delays in inspections and licenses for growers mean Ohio won’t make a Sept. 8 deadline for implementation of the 2016 law legalizing medicinal marijuana, state officials say. Officials with the Ohio Department of Commerce today admitted that the state will not be ready to roll out its medicinal marijuana program by a previously-stated Sept. 8 deadline. After lawmakers passed a law legalizing medicinal marijuana in 2016, Ohio officials last November licensed 25 growers across the state to cultivate marijuana for medicinal use. None have begun planting crops yet because they haven’t received the necessary state certifications to do so. Only one – Pure Ohio Wellness LLC – has received a required state inspection.

That leaves little time to begin the planting, processing and packaging needed so that medicinal weed will be available at dispensaries by the deadline. License holders for those dispensaries were named yesterday. The state says that three smaller growers are set for inspections this month and that five larger growers and one additional small grower will be inspected in July, clearing the way to issue certificates of operation that will allow growers to plant their crops. Department of Commerce officials blame the delay on weather and construction setbacks. The delay also comes after a variety of controversies, scoring errors and legal challenges around the way the state awarded medicinal marijuana licenses.

Marijuana is a term used to describe the dried flowers, leaves, stems, and seeds from the Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica plant. Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug in the United States. Societal changes including greater acceptance of marijuana use have led to its legalization for medicinal or adult recreational use. More than half the states in the U.S. have some sort of medical marijuana law.

The medical marijuana movement’s first big victory came in 1996, with the legalization for medicinal use by California voters. Polls show support for medical marijuana ranging from 60 to more than 80 percent. A 2009 roundup of clinical evidence for the efficacy of medical marijuana was published as a landmark article in the Journal of Opioid Management. Notably absent from medical marijuana patients in the published trials, in contrast to opiate drugs, are withdrawal symptoms and other signs of addiction. Given the scientific and medical evidence available, it seems that much of the corporate resistance to medical marijuana may spring from Big Pharma concerns over lost profits instead of from safety concerns.

Archaeologists sifting through the contents of bronze urns from Scythian culture have found marijuana seeds. Marijuana is still illegal for recreational use in 42 U.S. states. Twenty-two states haven’t even gotten around to passing compassionate medical marijuana laws.

There are hundreds of marijuana related magazines that are currently being published. If you have any suggestions of magazines we might of over looked please feel free to leave us a comment at the bottom of the article. High Times magazine defaults to number one on the list because they are the oldest known marijuana magazine. The first time I ever saw what dank bud looks like was in a picture in High times Magazine. Cloud Magazine is Kind of like Hightimes meets MAXIM Magazine.

All the girls in Cloud Magazine are Ganja Girls From HTGB. Cloud Magazine focuses on the entertainment side of marijuana and tries to stay away from the politics. Skunk Magazine is a pretty high quality magazine that focuses on entertainment and a celebrity’s in marijuana plus maybe a little bit of politics. Its a pretty hefty magazine that uses good quality paper. Kush magazine is probably the most high quality magazine on this list as it has the most pages and really high quality pictures as well as being book bound.

Kush magazine is owned and operated by dailybuds.com and features articles about politics and celebrity’s in the marijuana movement. 420 Magazine is a pretty decent magazine featuring celebrity interviews and politics surrounding marijuana. The reasons why this magazine is worth mentioning is because it has main stream quality as far as the printing goes and i also respect that they got 7-ll to distribute them.

The opinion of 18- to 29- year olds related to the legalization of marijuana has remained unchanged since the last time that we asked this question in the Spring of 2013. When 18- to 29- year olds were asked whether they support, oppose or unsure about legalizing marijuana – we found that 44 percent support legalization, 34 percent oppose and 22 percent are unsure – the exact same percentages across the board as one year ago. Despite a solid level of support in favor of legalization, support is not widespread and there are a number of notable differences in opinion on this issue that are worth noting. Democrats support legalization 49 percent to 28 percent, Republicans oppose, 32 percent to 50 percent;. Younger Millennials ages 18- to- 24- years old are less sure about legalization, 38 percent support, 39 percent oppose, 22 percent unsure – while 25- to 29- year olds support by a margin of 50 percent to 28 percent;.

Whites support legalization 49 percent to 32 percent, while Blacks and Hispanics are close to even. When the question is changed to legalization for medical purposes, a majority of most every subgroup of 18- to 29- year olds support, including by party, gender, and age. Overall, two-thirds would support this measure, 14 percent would oppose and the percentage of young people saying they are unsure is 19 percent. Asked how their perception of a friend might change if they learned that friend used marijuana recreationally, 65 percent of 18- to 29- year olds said that it would not change their perception of them. Three in ten percent of respondents however said that their perception of a friend would change negatively, compared to 5 percent who said it would change positively.

Unclear if Marijuana is a Major Driver of Participation. Approximately one-in-four young Americans agree with the statement that they would be more likely to vote in an election where legalizing marijuana were on the ballot, and 32 percent disagreed.

420 day: Where cannabis is legal in the US and in countries around the world

Urban myths swirled for years that 420 was California state penal code for marijuana use, or numbers from a Bob Dylan song multiplied, or even related to Hitler’s birthday. This year, Lyft is offering riders in states where marijuana is legal a $4.20 discount. Is allowed in Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, Washington state, and Washington DC. It’s been a landmark year for marijuana legalization in the US, despite the best efforts of attorney general Jeff Sessions. On Jan. 1, California opened the world’s largest legal market for recreational marijuana, which is estimated to reach $5.1 billion.

Vermont became the first state legislature to legalize recreational marijuana. The US is now home to a growing multibillion-dollar pot industry that isn’t going anywhere any time soon, and e.lected officials have seen the benefits marijuana tax revenue brings to fund schools and infrastru. New Jersey governor Phil Murphy proved it was possible to run a successful political campaign with marijuana legalization as a central issue, and New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon appears to be following his lead. Update April 20: Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer announced today he plans to introduce legislation to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level, the latest sign that reform is gaining political traction. Uruguay became the first country to fully legalize marijuana in 2013 and last year began allowing sales in local pharmacies.

The Peruvian congress passed a bill in October that legalized medical marijuana, allowing the production, sale, and importation of cannabis oil. Marijuana is technically illegal in the Netherlands, but authorities will generally turn a blind eye. Only citizens are allowed to buy marijuana, though Amsterdam’s infamous coffeeshops are exempt from that rule. Where marijuana is legal or has been decriminalized.

Medicinal Fried Chicken

Cartman’s favorite restaurant, Kentucky Fried Chicken, has been shut down and replaced by a store that sells medical marijuana to cancer patients. Cartman will do anything to get his beloved fried chicken back. Stan, Kenny, Kyle and Cartman are at soccer practice, during which Cartman yet again manages to avoid playing by claiming he has a stomach ache, much to the annoyance of the soccer coach. After soccer the boys are picked up by Randy who takes them to KFC during which, Kyle points out that Cartman only goes to soccer on Friday because of the fact they go to KFC afterwards. Cartman meanwhile is infuriated by the fact that the only KFC in South Park is now gone.

That KFC is also closed, and the construction men there inform Cartman that all of the KFC’s have been shut down because of a new law which bans fast food from being sold in low income areas, and since KFC was ‘only’ in low income areas, in the entire state of Colorado, Kentucky Fried Chicken is illegal. On the way back from methadone clinic Cartman finds out on the playground that a boy named Billy Miller has KFC. Cartman goes to see him where he is treated to KFC popcorn chicken, but then Billy charges him $85, which is money that Cartman doesn’t have. In order to pay off his debt, Billy suggests that Cartman work as a mule to smuggle KFC into Colorado. Cartman delivers the money and KFC to Billy who tells him that he’s rather good at getting KFC in Colorado and will team up with Tommy and go to Kentucky to meet Colonel Sanders, who is alive and well on South Park.

Upon returning to South Park, Cartman overthrows Billy in running the KFC smuggling operation, by telling Billy’s parents that Billy got an ‘F’ on his Social Studies test. To exaggerate Cartman’s addiction to KFC, he starts cutting chicken skins into strips and snorts them. Thus KFC is once again made legal in Colorado, with the new store title of Medicinal Fried Chicken.

Canada Votes to Legalize Marijuana, Trump Jr.’s Nickname – Monologue

StoptheDrugWar.org

Oklahoma voters pass a very progressive medical marijuana initiative, legalizers win the Democratic gubernatorial nominations in Colorado and Maryland, Maine passes a major medical marijuana overhaul, and, with rightists now in power in Washington and Bogota, it looks like a new drug war is looming in Colombia. Colorado US Rep. Jared Polis, a leading congressional proponent of marijuana legalization, won the nomination in his state, while former NAACP head Ben Jealous, who has also called for marijuana legalization, won the nomination in Maryland. Orlando attorney John Morgan, the man behind the state’s successful 2016 medical marijuana initiative, now says he wants to put a legalization initiative on the 2020 ballot. More than half of Texas registered voters polled in the newest University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll support legalizing marijuana.

Another 31% would support legalizing medical marijuana, leaving only 16% against legalizing marijuana in any form. The legislature has passed a sweeping overhaul of the state’s medical marijuana program. The bill removes current qualifying conditions and allows doctors to recommend medical marijuana for any ailment and allows caregivers to expand their operations in exchange for tighter regulations. Voters in Oklahoma approved a remarkably progressive medical marijuana initiative by a healthy margin of 56% to 43%. The initiative, State Question 778, allows registered patients to possess up to three ounces of marijuana anywhere and up to eight ounces at home.

What is most striking about Question 778 is that it does not restrict access to medical marijuana to a list of qualifying conditions. The advocacy group Harm Reduction Ohio is accusing the state Health Department of using a bureaucratic delaying tactic to prevent needle exchange programs from accessing any of the funds the state is expected to receive for HIV prevention. Surrounding states submitted the necessary paperwork in 2016, he noted. In its 2018 World Drug Report released Tuesday, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime reported that both cocaine and opium supplies were at their highest ever recorded levels last year.

ChrisWeigant.com » Marijuana Grows Up

That’s a weak attempt at a punny metaphor for which I apologize, but its deeper meaning is that marijuana is actually outgrowing such cheap jokes and entering the realm where it demands to be taken seriously – especially by politicians. Marijuana is now the nation’s fastest-growing industry. The legal marijuana industry brought in $2.4 billion last year, so it’s certainly no longer any sort of laughing matter. The report projects a marijuana industry that could be more valuable than the entire organic food industry – that is, if the legalization trend continues to the point that all 50 states legalize recreational marijuana. The total market value of all states legalizing marijuana would top $36.8 billion – more than $3 billion larger than the organic food industry.

State-level gains on marijuana reform are one thing, but the real battles which remain are going to have to be fought at the federal level. The biggest political step that still needs to be taken on the national level is completely divorcing marijuana from the rest of the ill-fated Drug War. While marijuana activists were amused that last year’s Super Bowl was played between the two teams from fully-legal recreational states, this year it is even more impressive that ex-stars of the N.F.L. are now publicly calling for the league to change their own rather Draconian attitudes towards marijuana use by their players. Marijuana may not be sold everywhere in the country, but then neither is alcohol.

In a nod to the N.F.L. players’ column, I can end here by defining the ultimate measure of when marijuana will be fully normalized in American society: when an advertisement for weed airs during the Super Bowl. The marijuana industry is growing so fast that such a thing may become reality a lot sooner than anyone might now predict. The marijuana industry is indeed growing up, and eventually it’s going to want a seat at the biggest advertising table the country has to offer.

Campus enforcement of marijuana use remains disjointed – The Stanford Daily

Over a year after California legalized marijuana consumption, campus enforcement of recreational marijuana use remains murky. Smoking marijuana in public remains illegal under California law, and official University policy continues. Ralph Castro, director of the Office of Alcohol Policy and Education, explained that repercussions for marijuana use on campus can differ depending on where the incident took place. On the other hand, smoking in public areas can lead to police citations on top of Stanford sanctions, even if individuals holds a medical marijuana license. These verbal warnings do not enter students’ criminal records but may be relayed to the University staff during meetings between the administration and the police, said Lt.

Jon Hernandez, who oversees the Records and Investigative Services Division of Stanford Public Safety Department. Though Stanford prohibits marijuana use on University property, residential staff do not always follow policy to the letter. Only 12 students were cited for marijuana consumption last year, compared to 29 percent of students who self-reported smoking marijuana within the last 30 days in a 2016 OAPE survey. Student residential staff are contractually obligated to alert professional staff about students who violate the policy, but some Resident Fellows and student staff have gotten around the rules by advising students to smoke marijuana where they are less likely to get caught. Student staff members’ jurisdiction ends at 30 feet beyond the dorm – a fact that some houses take advantage of when communicating marijuana policy to residents.

Most students The Daily spoke to were unaware or undeterred by the University’s ban on marijuana use. Of the 30 students interviewed in December 2017, two assumed that marijuana is officially permitted on campus since it was legalized in California. As Stanford and local lawmakers continue to grapple with the implications of marijuana legalization, students seem largely unbothered by official regulations.

N.J. Lawmakers Introduce Bills To Legalize Marijuana, Expand Medical « CBS New York

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Under new legislation unveiled Friday, recreational marijuana would be legalized in New Jersey and the state’s medical cannabis program would be expanded. The state is moving toward legalizing the drug under Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy, who while on the campaign trail promised to authorize recreational cannabis, but the Legislature has not moved on the issue beyond hearings and introducing legislation. Democratic Senate President Steve Sweeney and state Sen. Nicholas Scutari announced the new bills just weeks ahead of a June 30 budget deadline that has upped the stakes since Murphy is banking on revenue from legalization to balance his fiscal 2019 spending pan.

Nine states and the District of Columbia have legalized recreational marijuana. His budget assumes $60 million in new revenues from the pending approval of recreational marijuana. Under the legislation, people 21 and over could possess, buy, use or transport an ounce or less of marijuana. The bill calls for establishing a graduated tax rate on marijuana sales over several years, and calls for tax rates from 10 percent to 25 percent over four years. A previous version of the bill called for escalating the tax rate from 7 percent to 25 percent over five years.

Another bill expands the state’s medical marijuana program and allows any health-care practitioner permitted to prescribe controlled substances to write prescriptions. President Donald Trump on Friday said he would likely support a federal bill to end the national ban on marijuana. The federal ban that puts marijuana on the same level as LSD and heroin has created a conflict with about 30 states that have legalized pot in some form, creating a two-tiered enforcement system at the state and federal levels. The legislation would ensure states have the right to determine the best approach to marijuana within their borders, but some U.S. restrictions would remain, including sales of non-medical pot to people under 21.

No lull in Fitchburg marijuana applications

Boston-based company, Native Sun Wellness, expects to come before the Planning Board on July 10 to propose a recreational marijuana cultivation facility on 140 Industrial Road. sentinel & enterprise photo/jeff porter. FITCHBURG – The marijuana industry’s investment in the city shows no sign of slowing down. Plans for a new facility to grow marijuana and the expansion of an existing one are expected to come before the Planning Board next month, according to city officials. These proposals are the latest in a steady stream of applications that have come before the city in the past two years.

Boston-based company, Native Sun Wellness, expects to come before the Planning Board on July 10 to propose a recreational marijuana cultivation facility on 140 Industrial Road, according to CEO and co-founder Mark Schuparra. He said the company is in the process of purchasing the former furniture manufacturing building, which the company plans to renovate starting Aug. 1 before beginning production in early 2019. After looking at hundreds of possible spaces around the state, Schuparra said they chose this location, because of the existing building and the city’s already sizable experience granting local permits for this relatively new industry. On June 6, the company held a community outreach meeting at the Fitchburg Fire Department Headquarters, but did not receive any feedback from residents, he said. Schuparra said the company is applying to open three retail stores, likely in Hudson and Boston.

Not including the application from Native Sun Wellness, at least six cultivation facilities and two dispensaries have either opened or received a special permit from the Planning Board. Earlier this year, the company received Planning Board approval to expand operations into the upper floors of its buildings, according to Tom Skwierawski, the city’s executive director of community development. On July 10, the company is expected to request permitting to further expand into an adjacent building, he said.

Study: Millions Of Americans Can Buy Marijuana Online, And The Demand Has Never Been Higher

From 2005 to 2017 marijuana shopping searches nearly tripled. A new study, led by San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health associate research professor John W. Ayers, demonstrates how easy it is for Americans to purchase marijuana online. Searches were also geotagged by state, and the study analyzed search activity in almost every American State. Study co-author, Mark Dredze, told Science Daily the following.

From 2005 to 2017, marijuana shopping searches in the United States nearly tripled, peaking at 2.4 million searches in June 2017. The search volume was highest in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada. The overall annual growth-rate for marijuana shopping searches, researchers found, was significantly positive since 2005, in all studied states, bar Alabama and Mississippi. This, authors assert, suggests a growing demand across the nation. Forty-one percent of all monitored search results linked to retailers selling marijuana.

Retailers occupied 50 percent of the first page of Google search results. For some searches, all links on the first page of Google were pointing to online marijuana retailers. State and local tax revenue – some of which could be used to fund public health programs – could be negatively impacted.

Chilean Fisherman Finds an “Underwater Field of Marijuana”?

I’m no botanist, but unless a field of marijuana was insulated by a sand bar and within a tent, I highly doubt marijuana could grow underwater because plants need sun to grow. Considering seaweed and other ocean things grow in the water, perhaps weed growing in the bottom of ocean is just as feasible as Finding Nemo. The fisherman is believed to have been fishing for turbot when he caught unidentified vegetation in his net, which was later identified by marine biologists at the Chilean Aquaculture Centre as a strain of cannabis sativa. The strain has been affectionately named ‘Amigo de pescador’ by locals, which roughly translates to Fisherman’s Friend in English. Research suggests that a naturally occurring genetic defect in the plant, coupled with small hydrothermal vents in the proximity and epipelagic location, have created serendipitous growing conditions that you wouldn’t find anywhere in nature and would be difficult to reproduce artificially.

I have no idea what that means or if it’s really possible, but it sounds cool and scientific. I’m assured by my more familiar peers that the levels of THC aren’t particularly high but the plants do produce female flowers. So unless he hides from the internet, this is likely a fake.

Lawmakers In Illinois Embrace Medical Marijuana As An Opioid Alternative

A painkiller prescription could become a ticket for medical marijuana in Illinois. Lawmakers there passed a bill making anyone with a prescription for opioids eligible for its medical cannabis program. With this move, Illinois joins a growing number of states turning to legal cannabis in the fight against painkiller addiction. The Alternatives to Opioids Act would allow millions of patients to apply for temporary access to the state’s existing medical cannabis pilot program. The bill, which passed on May 31st, is now awaiting Republican Gov.

Bruce Rauner’s signature. Though the bill has bipartisan support, marijuana advocates have some doubts whether he’ll sign it, given his past opposition to medical cannabis. Lawmakers in several states have taken action to initiate or expand their medical marijuana programs in light of the opioid crisis. Among them, in Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a law adding PTSD and intractable pain to the list of conditions covered in its medical marijuana program in May.

Roseanne’s Marijuana Episode Part 3

Report: Legal marijuana boosts government revenue

A new report finds that legalizing and taxing marijuana boosts revenue for state and local governments, but not by much. The credit rating agency Moody’s Investor Service says in a study released Tuesday that legalizing recreational use of marijuana brings governments more money than it costs to regulate it. Despite high taxes on the legal sales of the drug, the revenue accounts for a small portion of government budgets. In Colorado, the first state to legalize recreational use, a marijuana tax brings in the equivalent of about 2 percent of the state budget. In Washington state, gross revenue from marijuana legalization equaled 1.2 percent of general fund revenue in the 2015-17 state budget.

Most of the states that have legalized marijuana earmark the revenue for law enforcement, drug treatment and other specific programs, which doesn’t help the states’ financial flexibility. Moody’s described the revenue effect as minimal on local governments in states with legalized pot. Creating revenue for the state is one argument proponents use for legalization in New Jersey. Gov. Phil Murphy, who supports the effort, is planning on having an additional $60 million in taxes from legalized marijuana in the next fiscal year.

Twenty-nine states now allow marijuana for either medicinal or recreational uses, and the business is growing quickly. Illegal marijuana sales are estimated at $40 billion. Many employers across the country are quietly taking what once would have been a radical step: They’re dropping marijuana from the drug tests they require of prospective employees.

Legalization of Marijuana Essay examples

Legalization of Marijuana Purpose: The reason why I am up here is to talk about the legalization of Marijuana. Thesis: Although you may all think that I am here to talk about the legalization of marijuana in the positive way, I am not. A. Hello fellow classmates, my name is Ivan and I am here to talk about the legalization of marijuana as it continues to grow as important controversial issue in the United States. C.

As a person that has been around the use of marijuana and have read several articles throughout my life, I believe that I have sufficient knowledge on weed. Let’s be honest here, our government as a whole is corrupt, and adding on to the big businesses such as Monsanto and Philip Morris, marijuana wouldn’t be naturally grown. II. Body.A. Weed will not be the same if big business gets a hold of the crop.

The way marijuana is grown would be absolutely different. Furthermore on if a big business got rights to the crop; the whole structure of marijuana growth would be different. B. Raise your hand if you’ve ever smoked weed. My point is, if marijuana is legalized, America would lose its place in the world.

According to all my friends that use marijuana, there really isn’t anything they do productive unless they show up to class or work high. I have evaluated my friends use of marijuana over the past couple years of my life and the main things they do on this drug is eat, smoke more weed, watch a movie, pass out on the couch after watching a movie.

‘Disjointed’ Review: Kathy Bates’ Weed-Themed Netflix Comedy

You might have seen that Disjointed stars the great Kathy Bates and airs on Netflix, and assumed that it must be innovative in some way. Don’t be fooled: This is basically a lame CBS sitcom dressed up in hip, streaming-service clothing. Disjointed is a generic workplace sitcom that might as well take place at a health-food store, or a chiropractor’s office. Disjointed’s hacky sitcom format is a poor fit for Bates, who looks uncomfortable throughout, even appearing to read her lines off of cue cards at times. I have no doubt Bates could be hilarious and terrific in the right TV comedy.

Disjointed’s supporting cast is mostly forgettable, because their characters are patched together from sitcom clichés. Across the board, Disjointed is marred by very broad, yell-y acting, with the cast straining to sell woeful jokes that range from tired pothead stereotypes to vulgar double-entendres. With shows like this and Fuller House, Netflix seems to be trying to establish a foothold in the traditional three-camera sitcom game. Disjointed’s failings just underline why the old-fashioned sitcom is a dying art these days. Michael Douglas actually just signed on to star in a new Netflix comedy series produced by Lorre.

Mike, buddy, save yourself a lot of time and heartache: Watch five minutes of Disjointed to get an idea of what you’re in for and then run for the hills. THE TVLINE BOTTOM LINE: Just say no to Netflix’s Disjointed – a strained, dreadfully unfunny sitcom that squanders the talents of Kathy Bates.

Xanax Addiction: The Risks & Side Effects of Xanax Abuse

Xanax is a brand name for the drug alprazolam, one of several in a group of drugs known as benzodiazepines. Xanax is commonly prescribed for the treatment of panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder or social anxiety disorder. Xanax works by boosting the effects of a natural chemical made in the brain called gamma-aminobutyric acid. In 2015, Xanax was the ninth bestselling drug and fifth most prescribed drug in the U.S.3. From 2004-2009, Xanax saw the second largest pharmaceutical increase in production, with rates increasing 148%.

The only drug that saw higher levels of production was oxycodone. As a generic, Xanax is prescribed more than the sleeping pill Ambien and more than the antidepressant Zoloft. The average person with a Xanax addiction takes about 20 to 30 pills every day.3. Long before a person becomes addicted, Xanax use carries a number of risks and dangers. The most serious risk of Xanax abuse is associated with taking it with other drugs and alcohol.

According to two clinical studies, the majority of people who are prescribed Xanax by a medical professional do not develop a substance use disorder. It is fairly common for users to become physically dependent, which equates to an addiction to Xanax. While the severity and incidence of withdrawal symptoms appear to be related to dosage and duration of treatment, people taking Xanax for brief periods at recommended doses have reported withdrawal symptoms including seizures.
