How To Score A Weed Card | Michael Malone | Stand-Up Comedy

Should I Call 911 When My Friends Start Flipping Out On Marijuana?

It seems that just about the time the second joint starts getting passed around the room, the girlfriend of the guy that nobody really wanted there in the first place goes quiet. Her situation is a little suspect, as everyone notices that she keeps feeling her chest from time to time. That’s when the quiet girl, despite knowing deep down inside that she is having some difficulty keeping up with the group’s rotation, decides she is going to try smoking high-powered concentrates for the first time. They will soon regret offering this level of encouragement. As soon as she blows out the hit, she looks as though she has been shot in the heart at close range.

It is at that point when she starts belting out a cornucopia of strange, colorful obscenities and begging for someone, anyone to call 911. Depending on which state a person lives in, calling in the cavalry when someone starts flipping out after consuming too much marijuana can bring nothing but trouble. Since it is impossible to die from a marijuana overdose, and the herb cannot cause any damage to a person’s internal organs, calling 911 for a THC terror trip is really just a waste of time. Sometimes those ever-so-popular cannabis freak-outs and subsequent calls to 911 can lead to hilarity. His video for the song The Leaf, which is a first person account of the time he called 911 following a cannabis-induced panic attack, has left the Internet in stitches.

Allport, who also works as an Associate Producer on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, told Forbes that he thought he was having a heart attack after smoking weed for the first time. After going through a rather tumotulous experience in an upstairs bathroom, which included a life-or-death battle with a dry tongue, he was lucky enough to reach a 911 dispatcher who understood exactly what he was going through.

‘Disjointed’ Is Like Any Workplace Sitcom

‘Disjointed’ Is Like Any Workplace Sitcom – With More Pot, Sex And Language Set in a medical marijuana dispensary, the big networks all turned the show down. Chuck Lorre is, without question, television’s sitcom king. He created two of today’s top money-making syndicated shows – The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men – and his other hits over the years include Dharma & Greg, Grace Under Fire, Mike & Molly and Mom. Lorre’s new show, Disjointed, co-created with David Javerbaum, premieres Friday on Netflix. The show’s Los Angeles set is a hippy-looking shop filled with psychedelic posters and glass cases displaying actual product.

Lorre describes his latest show, Disjointed, as just a regular workplace comedy, with wacky customers and lovable employees. The family tension in Disjointed is also more literal, deriving partly from the dynamic between Bates’ Earth mother character and her much more corporate son. Bates says she needed no such coaching; the subject matter is partly what drew her to the show. People are watching Netflix stoned with or without our show – by the millions, I would imagine. If the only people who watch us are stoned people who watch Neflix, that’s an enormous audience.

His show Mom, for example, is about a pair of recovering addicts, a mother and daughter. Javerbaum is a former head writer for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and the Broadway play An Act of God.

Comedian Doug Benson tells more than marijuana jokes

Doug Benson releases one album per year, has appeared on numerous TV shows, hosts a popular web series, Getting Doug With High, as well as multiple podcasts, namely Doug Loves Movies, and occasionally stars in movies – like his Super High Me, a documentary in which he smokes marijuana every day for 30 days. All of this is, of course, in addition to doing stand up across the country and throughout the world. We recently caught up with the cannabis connoisseur to hear about his high functioning career. DB: You caught me right before I’m going to be operating a motor vehicle no, I don’t drive high. CP: Charleston’s comedy scene is growing, and there will be many aspiring and professional comics at your show.

CP: You’re known for your crazy hard work ethic, but you generally seem to downplay it. DB: Sometimes I stop and ask myself why I have so many projects going on all the time, and it’s because I enjoy it. If I didn’t like doing one of my five podcasts, I’d stop doing it. If I didn’t enjoy going out on the road, I’d stop. CP: You did some extra work years ago in big-budget films, and you’ve appeared on a number of scripted shows.

DB: If someone wanted to give me a dramatic acting role I would probably do it. It’s call Chronic-Con, and it’s about me trying to get high with people dressed as superheroes at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Podcast: How Gringo director Nash Edgerton made a cannabis comedy, never touched the stuff

While Gringo, a new slapstick comedy out this week via Amazon Studios, rides the well-trod trope of a mega corporation up to no good, there’s a modern and timely twist: they’re manufacturing cannabis pills, called Cannabax, down in Mexico. Gringo is chock-full of Grade-A goofiness – weird diatribes about space exploration, kidnappings gone awry, dirty Mexican slang, awkward office sex – but at its heart is some genuine commentary on the ethics of the exploding cannabis industry, and Big Business’ growing role in it. The film, which stars David Oyelowo and Charlize Theron, was directed by Australian stunt-double-turned-director Nash Edgerton. We caught up with Edgerton to learn more about how he came to direct the film, what he thinks about cannabis legalization, his own history with cannabis and more. For the juicy details, tune in to our conversation with Edgerton, in this week’s episode of the Hash podcast, below.

Killer Marijuana Movies, Anti-Marijuana PSAs, and Marijuana Comedy for Fun & Holidays

At a weekend party, we ate marijuana medibles and everybody was so high it was like we were tripping. What really made the night great was we kept finding incredible marijuana movies, stupid-funny commercials made against marijuana, and marijuana comedy. Some of these marijuana videos are only a couple of minutes long, but a few are full-length. What makes the anti-marijuana commercials so laugh-worthy is that they were meant to be serious. The people who made them actually believed the negative shit they were saying about marijuana in these videos. I suggest you inhale your favorite buds or dabs, or eat some potent medibles, put YouTube onto your wide-screen television, and get ready to laugh!!!

Marijuana for RSD

While it has given me new life, I also understand that it isn’t for everybody. You do not have access to any medical marijuana dispensaries. Never purchase marijuana from a street dealer!!!! Dispensaries provide clean marijuana and you can be confident that it wasn’t tainted with anything you wouldn’t want to put in your body. You believe that your doctor will support your decision. Although two of my physicians have not discouraged me from medicating with marijuana, they don’t necessarily support it either. One understands that it is my only choice because my body reacts so badly to prescription pain.

Smith wrote, directed, and stars in the project, along with Donnel Rawlings, Kristin Bauer van Straten, and Frankie Shaw. FremantleMedia North America and Starstream Media produced the project. The project joins what is now officially a glut of in-production television comedies set in the world of marijuana and especially dispensaries. Best Stoner Comedy Movies

The stoner comedy genre has always been a voice on political times – perhaps an apathetic, lackadaisical voice, yet nonetheless, a voice. These films have plenty to offer stoned and non-stoned viewers alike. In the counterculture of the late ’70s, they set the tone for the rest of the stoner comedy genre to follow suit. As they bumble and swerve their way down the road, discussing inanities and fleeing cops, they influence entire generations of future stoners, and stoner films, to come. In a word, he became the symbol of the ’80s stoner. One of the few stoner comedies that does not revolve around marijuana, this 1989 film follows perpetual slackers Bill and Ted as they travel through time to learn about history for a high school history presentation. The film refueled the stoner comedy genre of the ’90s by first introducing the world to Matthew McConaughey as party fiend David Wooderson. By showing us the truth in suburban, middle-class banality – heavily influenced by stoner culture – Kevin Smith was able to launch his career with this low-budget classic. In the first film of this series, we follow unemployed stoners Smokey and Craig for the duration of a day as they smoke their entire stash and have to figure out a plot to pay back the money to their dealer. It also became the genre’s archetype for stoner buddy films made over the past 10 years.

Chicago USA

Because of the thousands of people like Rubén, McDonald’s had to change their coffee stirrer from a little spoon on a long stem because people like Rubén used it to snort coke, to a flat paddle and later a small straw. Anyway, thanks to Rubén, I attended my first rock concert. Led Zeppelin came to Chicago in January of 1975 and word was out that all the tickets would sell out immediately. We went to old Chicago Stadium box office about two hours before it opened at 10:00 a.m. We didn’t want to oversleep the time of the first ticket sales, so we stayed up all night drinking wine. When we arrived at the ticket office at 8:00 a.m., we were tired, but determined to obtain tickets. Rubén collected our ticket money and ran toward the Stadium like a deranged lunatic. Several policemen tried to stop him, but he dodged them, jumped onto the hood of their unmarked police car, then to the car roof, before leaping to the front of the ticket line. We waited patiently for him in my Firebird that was parked a block away, but within view of the ticket office. About four hours later, Rubén emerged from the ticket office with six concert tickets! We were going to see Led Zeppelin in concert! The last time I saw Rubén was at that Led Zeppelin concert, partying, getting high, and bouncing his head to the music.

False representations: Media portrayal of marijuana

The media consistently represents marijuana as a dangerous substance that leads to issues with psychological addiction, drug lords, mental problems and inevitable abuse of other drugs. The media paints marijuana as a drug that will inevitably lead to the destruction of lives, instead of as a viable recreational substance with potentially positive health benefits. As a recreational drug, marijuana is less dangerous than tobacco and alcohol. Last year, about 25 million Americans smoked marijuana. More than 14 million Americans smoke marijuana on a regular basis, according to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. Medical use of marijuana relies on the effects of two cannabinoids, THC and CBD. THC bolsters appetite and decreases nausea, pain and inflammation. Despite similar rates of marijuana use between blacks and whites, blacks are far more likely to be arrested for marijuana-related offenses. According to a March Pew Research Center survey, about 48 percent of adults have tried marijuana, which is a record high for the drug. In order to overcome these stigmas and stand a chance at legalization or decriminalization, we need more diverse and more accurate representations of marijuana. After his month-long cleanse, he smokes marijuana every day for a month straight to test its long-term effects.

EDITORIAL: Delay opening day for recreational marijuana

Hold on, recreational marijuana lovers, the state might not be going to pot just yet. While the Cannabis Control Commission begins public hearings concerning its proposed guidelines to regulate this new industry, two influential groups have asked that panel to delay the availability of everyday marijuana or strictly curtail how it can be sold. The commission, which remains committed to allowing legal marijuana sales on July 1, must vote on changes to its draft proposal before filing its final regulations by March 9, ahead of the March 15 statutory deadline. The alliance believes the draft regulations will make marijuana more accessible to underage consumers, contribute to pot’s black market and exacerbate health disparities in economically distressed communities. According to the State House News Service, in a message to its supporters, the alliance urged the state to postpone the opening of retail marijuana outlets pending a thorough review of the commission’s policies. Medical marijuana dispensary owners, many of whom will likely enter the legalized-pot industry, also present valid arguments. They point out that states that allow recreational marijuana limit its sale to brick-and-mortar stores. Legalized pot supporters will say medical marijuana owners want to limit the competition, which is true. Better to delay the opening of pot shops now to avoid future legal roadblocks. Given all these 11th-hour uncertainties, the prudent course should be to postpone recreational pot’s July 1 opening day.

Harvard Health Publishing

There are few subjects that can stir up stronger emotions among doctors, scientists, researchers, policy makers, and the public than medical marijuana. Marijuana is currently legal, on the state level, in 29 states, and in Washington, DC. It is still illegal from the federal government’s perspective. The Obama administration did not make prosecuting medical marijuana even a minor priority. About 85% of Americans support legalizing medical marijuana, and it is estimated that at least several million Americans currently use it. Marijuana itself has more than 100 active components. One particular form of childhood epilepsy called Dravet syndrome is almost impossible to control, but responds dramatically to a CBD-dominant strain of marijuana called Charlotte’s Web. The most common use for medical marijuana in the United States is for pain control. While marijuana isn’t strong enough for severe pain, it is quite effective for the chronic pain that plagues millions of Americans, especially as they age. Part of its allure is that it is clearly safer than opiates and it can take the place of NSAIDs such as Advil or Aleve, if people can’t take them due to problems with their kidneys or ulcers or GERD. In particular, marijuana appears to ease the pain of multiple sclerosis, and nerve pain in general. Medical marijuana is also reported to help patients suffering from pain and wasting syndrome associated with HIV, as well as irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease.

Comparing marijuana to fentanyl is social conservatism without a clue: Robyn Urback

The majestically dumb comments Conservative MP Peter Kent made about marijuana earlier this week suggest that the Tories’ re-branding efforts are not going particularly smoothly. Inconclusive, but worth read if you share concerns about young children, home-grown marijuana, home-made eatables. The last Conservative MP to make such outlandish rhetorical flourishes about marijuana – Julian Fantino, who compared weed to murder – went on to head a medical marijuana company. The best-case scenario here is that Kent is clumsily trying to appeal to the roughly one-third of Canadians who have reservations about legalized marijuana. The Conservatives have long taken very weird, hyperbolic positions when it comes to marijuana. In 2015, when the Supreme Court ruled that medical marijuana users could consume pot in ways other than smoking it – thus allowing for oils, teas, consumables, etc. Previous federal regulations only allowed for medical marijuana to be sold dried, meaning that lung cancer sufferers and children with epilepsy, for example, basically had to smoke weed if they wanted medical marijuana relief. In 2015, the Supreme Court struck down the regulation that medical marijuana be sold dried. Which, on the one hand, is fine: if the Conservatives want to double down on social conservatism – at least as it relates to marijuana – all the power to them. The problem is that, with his comments, Kent has presented them as socially conservative without a clue.

Marijuana Stand-Up Comedy – Tere Joyce Last Comic Standing

Romantic Comedy Movies for Marijuana

Relationships are a big part of stoner comedies and the common theme is the friction between men and women regarding pot use. As marijuana use in America continues to come out into the open, a slew of movies has examined this romantic dynamic, shaping popular discourse and entertaining stoners and non-stoners alike. In Half Baked, Dave Chappelle’s love interest, Mary Jane, doesn’t approve of his ganja smoking, which forces him to choose between his two lady loves. In Road Trip, Smart is the sexy co-ed who gets in between Breckin Meyer and his out-of-state girlfriend. The more mature the movie, the more likely marijuana is there to create tension between the characters. In order to appeal to Katherine Heigl’s Alison in Knocked Up, Seth Rogen’s Ben Stone has to distance himself from his stoner friends. Other films where pot plays a leading role include Van Wilder, where Ryan Reynolds’ campus party animal character woos Tara Reid, and American Beauty, where Kevin Spacey’s Lester rediscovers pot, to the consternation of his adulterous wife Carolyn. More recently, marijuana has a negative effect on Lyle and Nina in the Brooklyn indie Newlyweeds. Sometimes it’s better when weed plays a neutral role in movies. One of the top-grossing stoner films of all time, We’re the Millers, features Jason Sudeikis as a Denver pot dealer who gets ripped off and has to pay his connection by smuggling an RV stuffed with mota from Mexico into the U.S. Jennifer Aniston’s stripper character Rose comes along for the ride.

Judge Doobie: on the set of The High Court with Doug Benson

When visiting the set of the new Comedy Central series The High Court with Doug Benson – a parody of daytime courtroom shows such as Judge Judy – the thing that stood out was the ventilation system designed to filter out smoke. Benson, a standup comic best known for his podcast Getting Doug with High and the documentary Super High Me, is the drug-fueled mind behind the new series. He’s made a substantial comedy career out of embracing marijuana culture at a time when weed is the most socially acceptable it’s ever been, and on the verge of being legal in California. At first glance, one wouldn’t even guess that anything remarkable was afoot on the set, save for the generally sleepy faces of Benson and this episode’s guest bailiff, Brandon Wardell. Any fantasies of a free contact high disappear thanks to that damn ventilation system. Each of the 20 first season episodes of the High Court is a scant 15 minutes long, making it feel more like a deep cut Adult Swim show than the standard Comedy Central fare. After an uninterrupted 15-minute take in the courtroom, Benson, Wardell and Kellison get together to discuss what they might have missed and what they can pick up. Benson and Wardell are as confused about the particulars of the case as I am, though they have a medicinal reason for it. The High Court is not the first, nor will it be the last, TV show to center itself around conspicuous consumption of marijuana. The High Court with Doug Benson starts at midnight tonight ET on Comedy Central.

Harmony Korine Wants to Show His Matthew McConaughey Stoner Comedy The Beach Bum in Theaters Full of Marijuana Smoke

Matthew McConaughey and Snoop Dogg’s new stoner film The Beach Bum will truly be an experience. That’s because director Harmony Korine plans to show it with-bongo drum roll-puffs of marijuana smoke in the air in the theaters. Impressively, the trailblazing auteur has currently secured 30 rooms in which he’ll be able to do so. It is possible in some states, such as California, that have legalized this drug for. We already have about thirty rooms that have accepted. It’s likely though that none of those rooms are in Miami, Florida, where The Beach Bum is filming and where recreational marijuana use is not yet legal. No doubt McConaughey will have an easy time slipping into the mindset of that character as the actor famously lived through a somewhat public depressive marijuana smoking episode. It was the marijuana, bong and pipe that got him into trouble when the cops arrived, who later booked him on suspicion of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting transportation.

Comedy Central Picks Up Pot Comedy ‘The High Court’ With Doug Benson

Comedy Central has given the green light to The High Court, a new 15-minute strip series from comedian Doug Benson for premiere in 2017. It features Judge Doug as he gets high and rules on real small claims court cases. The concept is loosely born from Benson and JASH’s popular YouTube show, Getting Doug with High. In The High Court, both parties agree in advance to have the case settled as Judge Doug hears both sides and then retires to his chambers with a guest bailiff to get very stoned and deliberate. Actor and marijuana advocate Benson hosts podcasts, Getting Doug with High and Doug Loves Movies. The High Court joins a growing list of pot-themed scripted comedy series including HBO’s High Maintenance, Netflix’s upcoming Chuck Lorre sitcom Disjointed, and MTV’s Mary + Jane. Amazon also recently greenlit marijuana-themed comedy pilot Budding Prospects starring Will Sasso. Benson is repped by manager Bruce Smith and attorney Lev Ginsburg.

Netflix Orders Chuck Lorre and Kathy Bates Pot Comedy

If there’s one constant in this crazy, meaningless world, it’s Netflix throwing money at new projects like they can’t give the dough away fast enough. On Wednesday, the streaming giant ordered to series Disjointed, a new comedy from The Big Bang Theory’s Chuck Lorre set at an L.A.-based pot dispensary. Oscar and Emmy winner Kathy Bates will star as the dispensary’s proprietor. The series, which was originally shopped around to the networks before landing at Netflix, is a multi-camera comedy co-written by Lorre and David Javerbaum. In addition to Bates’ pot-shop owner, the workplace comedy will feature the shop’s three budtenders, Bates’ character’s 20-something-year-old son and the shop’s security guard. Disjointed is Netflix’s third multi-cam series, the first two being the Ashton Kutcher-led series The Ranch and the wildly successful Fuller House.

Netflix stubs out weed comedy Disjointed – TBI Vision

Netflix has axed marijuana store comedy Disjointed after one season on the platform. The multi-camera comedy series hosts Kathy Bates as a lifelong advocate for legalisation who’s finally living her dream as the owner of an LA cannabis dispensary. Disjointed received a 20-episode first season order at the streamer in 2016, with the first half of the season debuting this past August and the second half premiering in January. Despite its seemingly edgy themes, the sitcom format is closer to creator Chuck Lorre’s other shows such as Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory than most SVOD comedies. Lorre and Daily Show alum David Javerbaum served as writers and executive producers on the series, with Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Lorre is also prepping comedy series The Kominsky Method for Netflix, starring Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin.
