Highly Hilarious: Top 10 Cannabis Comedians
In honor of this glorious day, I hereby present my list of comics that have advance the cause of marijuana to audiences everywhere and, in the process, made us laugh. One of the official ‘Pot Comics’ working today and the Bongmeister behind the landmark marijuana documentary, ‘Super High Me’ and the theatre piece, The Marijuana-Logues, Doug works all over the world now. Mr. Chappelle may be the greatest comic working these days. A man of many foibles and contradictions who has influenced countless generations of comics, his legend will probably overtake fact.
For many of us, something happened to us, after Mr. Carlin’s transitioned from button-down comic of the Eisenhower era to long-hair free-form artist that we grew to know and love in the late Sixties or early Seventies. Maybe the stoniest comic of all-time who did his set without nary marijuana reference in his act, yet the odor was rampant throughout. His sing-song laid back approach, with emphasis on pronunciation as much as for content, has influenced many new comics. Robin Williams is simply the greatest San Franciscan comic that’s ever been.
There were many African-American comics of the ‘Chitlin’ Circuit where Richard Pryor, Moms Mabley and Flip Wilson and others worked , bringing what we know as marijuana jokes to a broader audience. Buckley earned in the process the very scary title of being Al Capone’s favorite comic. In San Francisco, the comic’s comic is Steven Pearl. There are many more famous comics, who have more money, but for the comics of San Francisco, Steven Pearl was the act we aspired to be like.
An Interview with TJ Miller About His Latest Gig, the First Openly Cannabis-Themed Comedy Tour
He’s the guy from Silicon Valley and Yogi Bear 3D. The Leafly Cannabis Comedy tour kicks off in Seattle at the Crocodile on January 2, with an opening act by Emmett Montgomery. The more mainstream [weed] gets, the more they figure out edibles and regulate them and all that kind of stuffI don’t think they have edibles in Denver anymore, ’cause some kids got into ’em. Nobody gets in a bar fight when everyone’s high. Like the Friday night late showthese are people that have worked all week, they probably went out right after work, it’s doubtful that they even went home and changed.
Like, I’m doing comedy and all that but I’m also sort of partying. Hopefully I’m doing something, this being a cannabis tour. No Yogi Bear 4D! But, y’know, I worked on How to Train Your Dragon, and Big Hero 6, and Gravity FallsI have a very broad audience on purpose, because I believe that life is fundamentally tragic and comedy is one of our best escapes from the harshness of life. That’s the new thing to talk about!
No one’s talkin’ about that on the cannabis tour! That’s the way I’m going to be different. I tell a story or two about my escapades as a very high person. When you’re high, spectacle and things that are super bizarre are fun to just relax into. So that’s the thing, I don’t talk about weed so much as I perform material that’s very fun to watch high.
If everybody’s super high, sometimes it takes them a second to get a joke.
Adam Scott To Produce Marijuana Dispensary Comedy For NBC
The burgeoning Colorado marijuana industry already has spawned several reality/docu-series projects, including TruTV’s Medicine Man pilot. It is now entering the scripted field with Buds, a comedy project bought by NBC for the 2015-16 development cycle. Parks & Recreation co-star Adam Scott is teaming with the departing NBC comedy’s writer Joe Mande on the show, which hails from Gettin’ Rad Productions, Scott’s production company with his producer wife, Naomi Scott. This marks the first sale under the first-look deal Gettin’ Rad inked with Universal TV last fall. Written by writer-comedian Mande, Buds revolves around the day-to-day operations of a marijuana dispensary in Denver, Colorado.
On the feature side, Gettin’ Rad recently produced, alongside the Duplass Brothers, indie The Overnight, which premiered at Sundance and was sold to Orchard Films. In TV, the company has produced four Greatest Event in Television History specials for Adult Swim. As an actor, Scott will next appear in the Parks & Rec series finale and Hot Tub Time Machine 2. Mande, who has 1 million Twitter followers, is with CAA and Mosiac.
Cheech and Chong move on from stoner comedy [Video]
The pro-marijuana crowd took a hit Monday night when counterculture icons Cheech and Chong announced on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Or maybe being able to buy it without having to pretend to be friends with the person selling to you took the appeal away for Cheech. So the creators and stars of such classics as Up in Smoke. Still Smokin may be evolving from something that smells like skunks to something that smells like feet. They also said they’d be getting into importing exotic reptiles and, they’re really playing with fire here, taping and distributing football games without the express written consent of the NFL.
But old habits die hard, and Cheech and Chong will still be blazing in the form of burning leaves without a permit. Now before this goes and harshes anyone’s mellow, rest assured this was just a bit playing up the fact that the kind of humor isn’t as rebellious as it used to be, especially now that former Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner has gotten involved in the weed game.
