Stoner Comedy True Buds TV: Weed Time Traveler

Tesla CEO Elon Musk Smokes Marijuana on Comedy Podcast

Elon Musk sipped whiskey and puffed a little weed while musing at length late Thursday about artificial intelligence, colonizing space, and the need to give love a chance. The Tesla entrepreneur shared thoughts on those topics and more during a podcast with comedian Joe Rogan that lasted more than two hours and stretched into Friday. Musk’s current endeavors include electric carmaker Tesla; private space exploration enterprise SpaceX; tunnel-drilling Boring Company, and a Neuralink operation working on augmenting human brains with artificial intelligence. During the course of a wide-ranging chat with Rogan, Musk drank whiskey and tried a marijuana-and-tobacco cigarette proffered by the comedian. He maintained that getting things accomplished, especially being useful to others, was among his joys.

Musk said that when it comes to social media he only uses Twitter, and that is for its power to get messages out. He contended that he ignores the majority of negative comments at Twitter, but has occasionally been drawn in and made mistakes. Nearly 90,000 people tuned into the podcast Rogan live-streamed with Musk at YouTube. He had long argued that AI would be humanity’s undoing, with sentient software treating people, at best, like house cats. Musk is now of a mind that whatever the future of AI, it is outside of human control.

A danger, he noted, is that humans will turn AI into a weapon to unleash on one another. Musk appeared to get emotional while talking about the harm being done to the atmosphere and oceans by burning fossil fuels.

Canadian Sketch Comedy Pokes Fun At Marijuana Worries At US Border

You could say that anxiety around cannabis at the U.S.-Canada border is at an all-time high. People are getting banned for life from the United States for revealing any association with the cannabis industry. Admitting past drug use could also get you banned for life. The show focuses on four main archetypes of characters who may have trouble crossing: cannabis investors, recreational users, a start-up associate, and obviously stoned teenagers. Legal adult-use cannabis sales will start Oct. 17 in Canada.

TORONTO, ON-In a move that is likely to revolutionize the marijuana-delivery industry in Canada, Shoppers Drug Mart has applied for a license to dispense marijuana, rather than having consumers simply acquire it from Shoppers cashier Tyler after he is done work. The benefits inherent in acquiring the license itself rather than simply having customers wait around for the end of Tyler’s shift or asking him to take a quick break will be many, Oakwood assures.

Cannabis Situational Comedy: Netflix’s “Disjointed” Spoiler-Free Review

If you haven’t already seen the promos or missed the trailers in between your favorite Netflix shows, Disjointed is the streaming giant’s new cannabis sitcom. While marijuana has played a key role in successful TV comedies, no one has dared to make it the focus of a live thirty-minute sitcom. Cannabis, even medical, as the driving force is a bold choice that could limit viewership. Co-created by series hit maker Chuck Lorre, the show centers around a veteran cannabis advocate named Ruth Whitefeather Feldman, played by Academy Award winner Kathy Bates, who opens her own L.A. medical marijuana dispensary.

The first two episodes are saturated with surface level one-liners, most of which involved weed. I imagine writing these two was hard since there’s lots of cannabis education that must be setup for the audience to understand the story. Cannabis patients will recognize the dispensary’s stocked with familiar, carefully placed brand name products-Kiva bars, VCC Cannabis Quencher, Honey Pot honey-though so far only flower has been mentioned. The live laughter seems unnecessary and over-the-top, making the comedy feel forced, though probably not to a cannabis newbie. Plays on lots of marijuana stereotypes, with each character representing a different cannabis user.

Ruth is the older hippie who also claims to be a shaman; Travis is a millennial eager to make it big in the industry; Jenny is the token Asian; Olivia is the small town girl afraid to get too comfortable with weed for fear it’ll lead to harder drugs; Carter is the war vet dealing with mental issues but resistant to cannabis; and Pete is the young hippie who treats his plants like kids. The two represent marijuana in the new age and their wacky personalities and cluelessness make for some well built jokes. The laugh track feels a bit juvenile, some of the jokes are layups and every marijuana stereotype is played out, but the acting, particularly by Kathy Bates, has its moments.

Cheech & Chong Can’t Stand Marijuana-Hater Jeff Sessions: ‘I Can’t Sleep at Night, Man!’

The duo Cheech & Chong-comprised of Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong-were among the first comics to attain rock star status due to their embrace of the ’70s counterculture movement, as well as their feature film debut, Up in Smoke. After releasing a half-dozen movies, several hit comedy albums, splitting acrimoniously in the ’80s, and reuniting in the ’90s, Cheech & Chong are still at it, bringing the laughs to fans across the country. Cheech: It’s making a great comeback around the world. Cheech: Probably not, unless they made it on a phone in order to save money. Chong: One time we had smoked before a scene and were in the car with the fumes waiting for someone to yell action.

There are conflicting stories about whether you were smoking weed or rolled-up lettuce during the making of the film. Chong: We were smoking a mixture of Indian herbs and lettuce in the big joints. We never smoked weed during a scene but did before filming. Cheech: I’d definitely want Paul McCartney because he’s the only Beatle that I’ve never met. Cheech: The Big Lebowski versus Cheech & Chong in a grudge match!

Cheech: Tell him the truth, man! The statue of limitations is over. Cheech: Watching him flip out when we did strange accents when we did off-camera readings with other actors.

WEEDSSSHOW. Jan 2018 Welcome.Comedy Vide Show On weed/Marijuana/Cannabis/Ganja. Intense Talk On Weed

High Maintenance: the weed-smoking comedy set to change the face of the webseries

High Maintenance, the webseries created by husband-and-wife team Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, is not a stoner comedy. An anthology set in the apartments and attic spaces of New York’s creative types, the show focuses on a sprawl of unrelated smokers, all of whom share the same dealer: a cheerful, bearded man simply known as The Guy. Instead, each episode follows the character or group of characters he’s delivering weed to, in the moments leading up to the point of sale, from the cancer sufferer looking to use the munchies to combat appetite suppression, to the homeowners needing to unwind after a exhausting time hosting Airbnb guests. Last month, the streaming site, which has hosted High Maintenance throughout its run, announced a deal to make the show its first original series, providing funding for future episodes. High Maintenance highlights the advantages the webseries has over TV.

Episodes can be as long or short as their creators want them to be, and released when they’re ready. Crucially, unlike the low-budget style of many webseries, High Maintenance looks great, filmed with a hazy dreaminess comparable with the lusher end of TV and independent film. The comic Hannibal Buress turns up in the series’ darkest episode, playing a stand-up who gets shot during one of his performances. Stevens raved about the show in a newspaper column and got in touch about appearing in an episode. The Stevens episode is perhaps the best encapsulation of what High Maintenance is about, not only in its storytelling style – the episode features a warm, expectation-confounding twist – but also in the way it reflects the spread of people who recreationally use weed.

Both Stevens’s character and his wife are affluent, family-driven people, who just happen to enjoy smoking pot, while in other episodes we see The Guy dealing to psychiatrists, doctors, even a cast member of Wicked. Blichfeld and Sinclair argue that High Maintenance is representative of shifting attitudes to the drug. High Maintenance is available to watch now on Vimeo.

Stoner Comedy Pioneer Tommy Chong Turns 80

While 4/20 might be the official ‘unofficial stoner holiday,’ May 24th remains a significant date in marijuana lore in its own right-it’s 1/2 of the legendary comedy duo Cheech and Chong’s birthday. Today especially, is an extra special celebratory day for potheads and marijuana advocates alike, as the stoner comedy pioneer Tommy Chong turns 80. Chong, who has advocated for legal marijuana since his early stoner comedy days, is now beginning to see his dreams come to fruition. By 1965, Chong and his band, Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers, signed with Gordy Records and recorded their debut eponymous album. After releasing two additional singles, the group broke up after Chong and bandmate Wes Henderson were fired from Motown for failing to acquire green cards to become U.S.

citizens. Chong then returned to Vancouver, British Columbia, to run a couple of local strip joints with his brother. After settling on the name ‘Cheech and Chong,’ the soon-to-be-infamous comedy team released their self-titled debut comedy album in 1971, which was nominated for a Grammy. The duo would go on to release four more Grammy-nominated comedy albums, including Big Bambu, Los Cochinos, Cheech & Chong’s Wedding Album and Sleeping Beauty. He ended up serving 9 months in prison for the endeavor, with many questioning the ethics of the case and whether or not Chong’s status as a stoner comedian caused his ultimate downfall.

In 2012, Chong announced he was suffering from prostate cancer. In 2015, Chong stated that his cancer had returned, this time colorectal. Now, Chong gets to enjoy the fruits of his, and so many other cannabis pioneers’ labors, through his own special brand of weed: Chong’s Choice, which is available in dispensaries throughout several weed-legal states.

Sanford and Son – Growing Marijuana

Wander into the weed with pot comedy ‘Disjointed’

Kathy Bates stars as Ruth Whitefeather Feldman, who was a pot advocate for years before she opened Ruth’s Alternative Care with her recent college graduate son, Travis. The other budtenders include modern-day hippie Pete; Jenny, who lies to her Chinese mother about her job; and Olivia, who is distinguished from the other two staff members by the fact that she doesn’t seem stoned all the time. Also on the staff is military veteran Carter, who suffers from PTSD and serves as the store’s security guard. Chris Redd and Betsy Sodaro play Dank and Dabby, a pair of completely unhinged Internet stars who are regular patrons of the dispensary; Nicole Sullivan is Maria, an overstressed mom who wandered into the store one day thinking pot might offer relief and seems to never have left; and Michael Trucco is Tae Kwon Doug, who runs a martial arts studio next door, has no use for a pot dispensary in the neighborhood and is given to all sorts of malaprops with sexual connotations he never gets. There isn’t much of a plot, although there are occasional moments that do seem to be circling some kind of story line.

Olivia and Travis flirt here and there, Pete thinks his pot plants are talking to him, Jenny breaks out in song at one point and imagines she’s singing in a nightclub, and Travis wants his mother to adopt more pragmatic management techniques, such as putting her money in a bank and not in the ceiling. A little of Pete, Jenny and Tae Kwon Doug goes a very long way, but most of the focus is on Ruth, Travis and Olivia, with off-the-wall moments for Dank and Dabby. Many times, the best parts of each episode are the fake pot commercials, including a hilarious ad with dancing cannabis containers all shot in glorious 1950s’ black and white. In further conscious defiance of logical episodic structure, there are even a few sophisticated animation sequences, including one representing the torment of Carter’s mind. If you watch Wolf Blitzer stoned, you’ll probably laugh, too.

This isn’t primo TV, but it’s also not stems and seeds. David Wiegand is an assistant managing editor and the TV critic of The San Francisco Chronicle.

Remembering Miloš Forman, The First Marijuana Comedy Director

You may never have heard of Miloš Forman, but you should have. At least if you think movies about weed are funny, you should have heard of him. Miloš Forman did win two Academy Awards for directing two amazing films, Amadeus and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Next of course starring Jack Nicholson. The movie you may never have heard of and may become a quick favorite is Taking Off from 1971. Mr.

Forman passed away last week at the age of 86. In his movie Taking Off, rich New Yorkers just do not know what to do about their out of control children that are regular potheads. They seek out guidance from a support group led by Vincent Schiavelli to discover how to manage their young stoners. They are advised by their support group to learn and understand what could be drawing their teenagers to marijuana by indulging in a smoke session themselves. Joints are passed around the group that do not seem entirely turned off by the idea and hilarity ensues.

On top of winning two Academy Awards, Miloš Forman won the Grand Prix award at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival for Taking Off. The Grand Prix award virtually makes Taking Off to most acclaimed stoner movie of all time. It makes movies like Pineapple Express make a lot of sense even though they may never had planned on it making sense in the first place.

Disjointed Review-Netflix: You Need to Be High for Kathy Bates Comedy

Fans of equally elementary wordplay are probably sold, but not so fast – the new Netflix comedy unveils a harsh buzz upon further pun-vestigation. Enough joints to keep you really baked for five hours. Ruth and Travis are running a cannabis dispensary in California as the legal disbursement of marijuana is booming. Joining them are three budtenders – Pete, Olivia, and Jenny – and a security guard named Carter, all of whom offer quirky character traits that skew between tolerable and agonizing. At its core, this is a multi-cam comedy of the CBS variety, and seeing all the loosely justified interstitials is jarring at first. Black-and-white ads and pop star dream sequences are a welcome distraction from an otherwise ordinary sitcom – though Bates dropping F-bombs is rather fun – but like a weak strain of Ruth’s cheapest product, the effect fades quickly. There is a small bright spot, highlighted in the episodes given to critics, and that’s Carter’s transformation. An army veteran still coping with PTSD, Carter doesn’t want to start smoking pot. Carter’s work environment and its inhabitants eventually tout weed’s medicinal benefits well enough for him to sample Ruth’s edibles. If viewers are high enough to think the laugh-track supported sitcom is just another one of the show’s parodies, rather than its core story, perhaps all these muddled blades will come together for an easy burn.

Pot legalization baked into this year’s Sketchfest comedy

SF Sketchfest is back with the keyed-up fanaticism of a major comic book convention, only beefed up to last half a month and dedicated to comedy instead. The celebration spans 17 days in January, with a seemingly unending bill of performances, film screenings, podcast recordings, game shows, tributes and even debates to attend. This year’s Sketchfest will be the first held under California’s new legal marijuana laws, allowing San Francisco to finally embrace two core parts of the city’s identity – comedy and cannabis. The proliferation of pot means that it’s not just for the hard-core stoner anymore. Patton Oswalt, who is scheduled to appear at a Sketchfest event for children called Story Pirates, is a comedian who used to bring up the topic of pot in his stand-up comedy, although he hasn’t smoked for about 20 years now. On the other end of the spectrum is Ngaio Bealum, a Bay Area comedian and cannabis journalist who not only prefers performing stoned, but also enjoys writing his jokes while high. As use may vary for performers, the same goes for audiences. A standard drunken comedy audience might be more engaging if not somewhat menacing, whereas a high crowd may end up too passive. Cannabis can loosen inhibitions and make comedy funnier in moderation, so enjoy California’s legal weed responsibly while taking in any of SF Sketchfest’s multitude of events.
