Growing marijuana 101: How your pot is being produced ahead of legalization

With recreational marijuana legalization around the corner, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes. The world’s biggest medical marijuana producer gave Global News a behind the scene look to show us how they are prepping for the big day. Mom plants are grown from seeds and they give life to hundreds of other marijuana plants. As they grow, clippings of the mom plant are dipped in a rooting solution and planted in small soil pods. High humidity, instead of watering, allows the clone plants to slowly absorb small drops of water.

The plant’s genetic make-up acts as its blueprint, but its environment plays a major role, too. Depending on the plant, you can have pot that keeps you awake or have pot that makes you relax and sleepy. Once the flowers have matured, the plants are then harvested and sent to the trimming room. Once it’s legalized, it’s expected there will be a big demand for legal pot, so Canopy Growth has three eight-hour shifts, producing five- to 10-gram packages, or filling bottles and soft gel tablets with oil. Justin Trudeau promised that recreational marijuana legalization would come Oct. 17.

Canopy Growth isn’t the only producer getting ready. Producers across the country are working at full throttle, producing millions of dollars’ worth of pot to meet the new demand.

Working to Reform Marijuana Laws

For the past 12 years, Chong’s partner has been his wife, Shelby, a comedienne in her own right. For one thing, Cheech and Chong never danced salsa, merenge and tango. After the duo split up, Chong directed and appeared in Far Out Man and Best Buds. Chong has continued to be active in the film and TV industry, not only as an actor but frequently as writer, director and producer. His detention caused an uproar among his fans and sparked a Free Tommy Chong!

movement. AKA Tommy Chong – a documentary written and directed by filmmaker Josh Gilbert about the legal battle and jail time – premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Stan Chong bought a $500 house in Dog Patch and raised his family on $50 a week. Chong started playing guitar at age 11, and when he was 18 formed Canada’s first R&B band called The Shades. Chong went on to form Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers, which became Motown’s first racially mixed band.

Shortly after Chong left the Vancouvers, he met Cheech Marin in 1969. Chong became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. in the late 1980s. Chong has five children: actress Rae Dawn and actress/producer Robbi Keene from his first marriage; actress/comedienne Precious Burger and sons Paris and Gilbran, both musicians, from his marriage to Shelby.

How to Act High

To prepare for a role in which you must act high, there are certain steps to pull off the performance, beginning with research. While acting high you could find it difficult to pour a cup of coffee. Practice getting into the high character by play acting with a partner, making up only one or a few lines at a time. It doesn’t matter where the story leads you, the important part is you act high the whole time, according to the bio you previously wrote about your character. Entertain yourself while practicing for the role of a marijuana user by playing a game while acting high.

Watch relevant examples of thespians acting high for a role. The best way to learn how to act high is to watch other actors do it. You can best prepare to act high by recording your sessions. If you live in a place where marijuana use is legal, you can see how to act high firsthand by watching others smoke the plant or ingest it through edibles. Prepare for your role by keeping a notebook during your high experience to later remember your thoughts while high and by recording the session to later watch your behaviors and mannerisms.

Someone might want to act high for a play, a prank, or some other kind of performance. Deliberately acting high should be saved for acting roles, not everyday life.

“Road Trip” – Gabriel Iglesias- (From Hot & Fluffy comedy special)

Radical Acts: The Art of Cheech Marin

Cheech Marin was from a quick-witted family where you had to be on stage to get a word in at the dinner table. Cheech remembers South Central as being easier for him, racially, in a Biography Channel documentary about his life. Father Oscar respected his adult son’s right to make the decision for himself, and Cheech was later granted immunity from federal prosecution and returned to LA. The dope comedy and films of Cheech and Chong that rode a rocket to fame in the 1960s and ’70s, by the 1980s, had played out. Knowing this helps put what would come later into perspective, as Cheech relied on his analytical mind, rapid-fire consciousness, and spirit of personal revolution, to re-find his audience and step from being a performer in a role to that of a guide and leader amidst a complex social and cultural environment.

Born in East LA, is a parable about immigration that nails our current discourse and policies because that’s what Cheech saw around him. It is this inequity that sparked a response from the largest and, as Cheech says, wealthiest generation. Cheech came into the studio at High Times Magazine to be interviewed by David Burkart on a variety of topics. These short video clips provide an insightful understanding of the thought process of Cheech Marin, the man, and the artist, though the art of his own making. Cheech Marin, the artist, teaches us more radical acts, remaining faithful to the craft, and to the inner journey, from a time when many, not just a few, were shot down cold in the streets.

Here we might see in the same frame, Cheech’s escape from stereotypes, labels, typecasting, racial conflicts, cultural restraints, political myopia, the country as a whole, the fog of war, stoner roles, the cops, and finally, as understood through his works and time. Cheech Marin’s cultural legacy is to be included. It may be reviewed and enjoyed through his personal collection and long embrace of Chicano art, documenting the cultural perspective of Americans as a movement and as peoples, at The Cheech Marin Center of the Riverside Art Museum.

How much marijuana can you possess in Massachusetts? Here are the restrictions.

After the passage of a November ballot measure, recreational marijuana is now legal in Massachusetts. While state lawmakers voted to delay the opening of recreational marijuana stores until June 2018 – which still makes it technically illegal to sell marijuana – possessing, consuming and growing marijuana is now allowed under state law. Here’s what you need to know about the law’s limitations, as specified in the text of the Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act, before enjoying the benefits of the new law. According to the Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act, it is now legal for residents aged 21 and over to possess, use, purchase, process and manufacture up to one ounce of marijuana. Residents, the law states, can possess up to 10 ounces of marijuana in their personal residence; however, any amount over one ounce must be secured by a lock.

The law also allows residents to assist other adults over the age of 21 with marijuana purchase, manufacture, use or possession, and also makes it legal for a Massachusetts resident to give away or transfer up to one ounce of marijuana to another adult. Once Massachusetts residents have their legal marijuana there are some restrictions on where they can use it. The law also specifies that individuals cannot consume or hold marijuana and marijuana accessories on public or private school property where children attend preschool, kindergarten or grades 1-12, or on the property of a correctional facility. The law also has strict restrictions on marijuana usage and motor vehicles. Massachusetts cannabis enthusiasts who choose to grow their own plants will also face restrictions under the Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act.

Residents can have up to six marijuana plants for personal use at their primary residence, the law dictates, but a household cannot grow more than 12 total marijuana plants at once. In total, residents may possess up to 10 ounces of marijuana and any marijuana that is cultivated by the plants on their premises at their primary residence.

Marijuana businesses to go before Planning Board

FITCHBURG – Five marijuana businesses looking for approval to sell, cultivate, or process in the city will go before the Planning Board Tuesday night. The public hearings will take place at 6 p.m. at the Fitchburg Fire Department headquarters community room at 33 North St. Existing medical dispensaries Revolutionary Clinics on Oakhill Road and Garden Remedies on Airport Road are seeking site plan review to cultivate and process recreational marijuana. It has one floor to grow medical marijuana and another with a commercial kitchen to manufacture marijuana products.

The company went before the Planning Board a few weeks ago to receive approval to grow on the upper floors of its industrial space, O’Hara said. Garden Remedies has been producing medical marijuana in the city since 2016. He said it received board approval before the city had a medical marijuana ordinance. The board will also consider special permits and site plan review for Colonial Cannabis to open an adult-use retail store on Water Street and medical cultivation and processing businesses for Cypress Tree Management on Westminster Street and Native Sun Wellness on Industrial Road. Special permit approval requires a two-thirds vote from the board, O’Hara said.

Boston-based Cypress Tree Management has plans for a nearly 50,000 square-foot facility at 431 Westminster St., he said. If the businesses receive approval from the Planning Board, O’Hara said, they will be able to move forward with building plans. To open, the businesses will need certification or licensing from the state Department of Public Health for medical marijuana or the Cannabis Control Commission for the sale of recreational marijuana. O’Hara said the Planning Board has already reviewed and approved at least six applicants with marijuana businesses. Applicants have told him that Fitchburg seems to be a good place for the marijuana business.

Chalice music & marijuana festival postponed for four months

Issues with Victorville City Council not welcoming the cannabis culture to their city. Chalice Festival’s unwillingness to thrown an event that does not meet our brand’s standards. We bring over 30 million to the areas we throw events. As a culture we should not grace anti-cannabis areas with the positive impact that our events bring. Our main focus is to professionally handle and address the people who have tickets to Chalice, the vendors, the sponsors, the people who make the event what it is.

Every person who has ever been to one of our events or. In December, we were first in line to be issued a cannabis event promoter license, which gives us the right to throw up to 10 events a year. The law said for each event we need a temporary event license issued by the bureau of cannabis control. The BCC denied my application due to the city of Victorvilles disapproval of cannabis activity in their jurisdiction. We throw our event on compliant state property and are fully entitled to the BCC issuing us our retail sales license for the event.

While we pursue our state claim, the city of Victorville needs to hear our voices of protest! We have a city council meeting today at 530 in Victorville! Come out and support! Particularly, the legal opinion prevented the city from green-lighting the marijuana-themed art and music event because it conflicted with a city ordinance, in effect since Dec. 7, that forbids most commercial cannabis activity within city limits, Jones said.

Louisville mulls changing city marijuana regulations

Louisville leaders are considering a series of changes to the city’s marijuana regulations. While Louisville City Council members have expressed agreement on issues such as increasing the allowable size of dispensaries from 2,000 square feet to 5,000 and removing the restriction that limits the total number of pot shops to four, they differ on whether to allow grow operations to open up shop in certain industrial areas. Mayor Pro-Tem Jeff Lipton was a vocal supporter of allowing marijuana cultivation when the topic of revamping regulations was raised during a discussion at Tuesday’s council meeting. Councilwoman Ashley Stolzmann and Councilman Dennis Maloney took a similar view of the matter. Some Louisville city leaders remain staunchly against allowing grow operations.

Muckle questioned the need to change city code as it relates to commercial pot growing. Councilman Jay Keany also spoke out against cultivation, arguing grow operations do not typically provide a huge tax revenue windfall for cities, nor do they add a significant number of jobs to the local economy. Muckle and Keany also opposed any changes to city regulations that would allow dispensaries to open in the downtown area. Louisville officials have instructed city staffers to continue studying issues related to pot regulations and bring forth a draft ordinance at an upcoming council meeting to address cultivation, dispensary size and location, and the number of pot shops permitted.

Cheech Marin

Nationality: United StatesExecutive summary: The stoned half of Cheech and Chong. Marin was a counterculture cut-up who went to college in the 1960s to sidestep the draft, then moved to Canada to escape it. Their 1971 comedy album was beloved by pot-smoking high school and college kids everywhere, and they eventually wrote and starred in such reefer-themed motion pictures as Up In Smoke, Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie, and Still Smokin’. While remaining on good terms, Cheech & Chong stopped performing together in 1985. Sans Chong, Marin wrote, directed, and starred in the deportation comedy Born In East L.A.

with Paul Rodriguez and Daniel Stern. He then mellowed into a character actor, playing a cop on Nash Bridges with Don Johnson, and chasing Tyne Daly on Judging Amy. He has appeared in supporting roles in films from Spy Kids to Christmas with the Kranks. He also voiced an evil hyena in Disney’s The Lion King. For all the endless warnings from governmental authorities that marijuana will rot your mind, Marin still has his wits about him.

In 1992, he won the first celebrity tournament on Jeopardy, and in his spare time, he volunteers for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and serves on the Inner City Arts Council. He is also a collector of Hispanic art, and markets his own hot sauce. In 2004, while Chong was imprisoned for selling bongs, Marin accepted an award on Chong’s behalf from Comedy Central, for Best Comedian Behind Bars.

Seeing Green: Celebrities Selling Marijuana « CBS Chicago

CHICAGO – Recreational marijuana is still against the law in 41 states. A number of celebrities with their own brands to sell are seeing green all the same. Hollywood has long been addicted to a good marijuana joke. Now he’s legit – selling a line of organically-grown cannabis called Chong’s Choice. Chong’s Choice is for sale in six states, and as with any other product, name recognition matters.

With marijuana sales expected to reach $8-10 billion by the end of this year, and projected to double to $20 billion by 2022, more celebs are investing money and lending their names to get a foothold in this growing market. He says celebrities such as Chong, Willie Nelson, Snoop Dog and even Whoopi Goldberg are helping marijuana go mainstream. Grammy-winning artist Melissa Etheridge is getting in on the act, from the ground up; she calls 47 acres in California’s Santa Cruz Mountains Etheridge Farms. Etheridge says she discovered the healing power of marijuana during painful chemotherapy sessions after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. For Etheridge, pot isn’t just about getting high; it’s about getting healthy – and, she says, the product grown here will have strict standards.

There are even edible products, like gingersnap weed cookies and other baked goods. Etheridge Farms is not yet up-and-running, but she hopes that putting the Etheridge name on her products will lead to more people experiencing a higher level of relaxation.

Cannabis Situational Comedy: Netflix’s “Disjointed” Spoiler-Free Review

If you haven’t already seen the promos or missed the trailers in between your favorite Netflix shows, Disjointed is the streaming giant’s new cannabis sitcom. While marijuana has played a key role in successful TV comedies, no one has dared to make it the focus of a live thirty-minute sitcom. Cannabis, even medical, as the driving force is a bold choice that could limit viewership. Co-created by series hit maker Chuck Lorre, the show centers around a veteran cannabis advocate named Ruth Whitefeather Feldman, played by Academy Award winner Kathy Bates, who opens her own L.A. medical marijuana dispensary.

The first two episodes are saturated with surface level one-liners, most of which involved weed. I imagine writing these two was hard since there’s lots of cannabis education that must be setup for the audience to understand the story. Cannabis patients will recognize the dispensary’s stocked with familiar, carefully placed brand name products-Kiva bars, VCC Cannabis Quencher, Honey Pot honey-though so far only flower has been mentioned. The live laughter seems unnecessary and over-the-top, making the comedy feel forced, though probably not to a cannabis newbie. Plays on lots of marijuana stereotypes, with each character representing a different cannabis user.

Ruth is the older hippie who also claims to be a shaman; Travis is a millennial eager to make it big in the industry; Jenny is the token Asian; Olivia is the small town girl afraid to get too comfortable with weed for fear it’ll lead to harder drugs; Carter is the war vet dealing with mental issues but resistant to cannabis; and Pete is the young hippie who treats his plants like kids. The two represent marijuana in the new age and their wacky personalities and cluelessness make for some well built jokes. The laugh track feels a bit juvenile, some of the jokes are layups and every marijuana stereotype is played out, but the acting, particularly by Kathy Bates, has its moments.

Cheech & Chong Can’t Stand Marijuana-Hater Jeff Sessions: ‘I Can’t Sleep at Night, Man!’

The duo Cheech & Chong-comprised of Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong-were among the first comics to attain rock star status due to their embrace of the ’70s counterculture movement, as well as their feature film debut, Up in Smoke. After releasing a half-dozen movies, several hit comedy albums, splitting acrimoniously in the ’80s, and reuniting in the ’90s, Cheech & Chong are still at it, bringing the laughs to fans across the country. Cheech: It’s making a great comeback around the world. Cheech: Probably not, unless they made it on a phone in order to save money. Chong: One time we had smoked before a scene and were in the car with the fumes waiting for someone to yell action.

There are conflicting stories about whether you were smoking weed or rolled-up lettuce during the making of the film. Chong: We were smoking a mixture of Indian herbs and lettuce in the big joints. We never smoked weed during a scene but did before filming. Cheech: I’d definitely want Paul McCartney because he’s the only Beatle that I’ve never met. Cheech: The Big Lebowski versus Cheech & Chong in a grudge match!

Cheech: Tell him the truth, man! The statue of limitations is over. Cheech: Watching him flip out when we did strange accents when we did off-camera readings with other actors.

Roseanne’s Marijuana Episode Part 1

Highly Hilarious: Top 10 Cannabis Comedians

In honor of this glorious day, I hereby present my list of comics that have advance the cause of marijuana to audiences everywhere and, in the process, made us laugh. One of the official ‘Pot Comics’ working today and the Bongmeister behind the landmark marijuana documentary, ‘Super High Me’ and the theatre piece, The Marijuana-Logues, Doug works all over the world now. Mr. Chappelle may be the greatest comic working these days. A man of many foibles and contradictions who has influenced countless generations of comics, his legend will probably overtake fact.

For many of us, something happened to us, after Mr. Carlin’s transitioned from button-down comic of the Eisenhower era to long-hair free-form artist that we grew to know and love in the late Sixties or early Seventies. Maybe the stoniest comic of all-time who did his set without nary marijuana reference in his act, yet the odor was rampant throughout. His sing-song laid back approach, with emphasis on pronunciation as much as for content, has influenced many new comics. Robin Williams is simply the greatest San Franciscan comic that’s ever been.

There were many African-American comics of the ‘Chitlin’ Circuit where Richard Pryor, Moms Mabley and Flip Wilson and others worked , bringing what we know as marijuana jokes to a broader audience. Buckley earned in the process the very scary title of being Al Capone’s favorite comic. In San Francisco, the comic’s comic is Steven Pearl. There are many more famous comics, who have more money, but for the comics of San Francisco, Steven Pearl was the act we aspired to be like.

An Interview with TJ Miller About His Latest Gig, the First Openly Cannabis-Themed Comedy Tour

He’s the guy from Silicon Valley and Yogi Bear 3D. The Leafly Cannabis Comedy tour kicks off in Seattle at the Crocodile on January 2, with an opening act by Emmett Montgomery. The more mainstream [weed] gets, the more they figure out edibles and regulate them and all that kind of stuffI don’t think they have edibles in Denver anymore, ’cause some kids got into ’em. Nobody gets in a bar fight when everyone’s high. Like the Friday night late showthese are people that have worked all week, they probably went out right after work, it’s doubtful that they even went home and changed.

Like, I’m doing comedy and all that but I’m also sort of partying. Hopefully I’m doing something, this being a cannabis tour. No Yogi Bear 4D! But, y’know, I worked on How to Train Your Dragon, and Big Hero 6, and Gravity FallsI have a very broad audience on purpose, because I believe that life is fundamentally tragic and comedy is one of our best escapes from the harshness of life. That’s the new thing to talk about!

No one’s talkin’ about that on the cannabis tour! That’s the way I’m going to be different. I tell a story or two about my escapades as a very high person. When you’re high, spectacle and things that are super bizarre are fun to just relax into. So that’s the thing, I don’t talk about weed so much as I perform material that’s very fun to watch high.

If everybody’s super high, sometimes it takes them a second to get a joke.

Adam Scott To Produce Marijuana Dispensary Comedy For NBC

The burgeoning Colorado marijuana industry already has spawned several reality/docu-series projects, including TruTV’s Medicine Man pilot. It is now entering the scripted field with Buds, a comedy project bought by NBC for the 2015-16 development cycle. Parks & Recreation co-star Adam Scott is teaming with the departing NBC comedy’s writer Joe Mande on the show, which hails from Gettin’ Rad Productions, Scott’s production company with his producer wife, Naomi Scott. This marks the first sale under the first-look deal Gettin’ Rad inked with Universal TV last fall. Written by writer-comedian Mande, Buds revolves around the day-to-day operations of a marijuana dispensary in Denver, Colorado.

On the feature side, Gettin’ Rad recently produced, alongside the Duplass Brothers, indie The Overnight, which premiered at Sundance and was sold to Orchard Films. In TV, the company has produced four Greatest Event in Television History specials for Adult Swim. As an actor, Scott will next appear in the Parks & Rec series finale and Hot Tub Time Machine 2. Mande, who has 1 million Twitter followers, is with CAA and Mosiac.

Cheech and Chong move on from stoner comedy [Video]

The pro-marijuana crowd took a hit Monday night when counterculture icons Cheech and Chong announced on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Or maybe being able to buy it without having to pretend to be friends with the person selling to you took the appeal away for Cheech. So the creators and stars of such classics as Up in Smoke. Still Smokin may be evolving from something that smells like skunks to something that smells like feet. They also said they’d be getting into importing exotic reptiles and, they’re really playing with fire here, taping and distributing football games without the express written consent of the NFL.

But old habits die hard, and Cheech and Chong will still be blazing in the form of burning leaves without a permit. Now before this goes and harshes anyone’s mellow, rest assured this was just a bit playing up the fact that the kind of humor isn’t as rebellious as it used to be, especially now that former Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner has gotten involved in the weed game.

WEEDSSSHOW. Jan 2018 Welcome.Comedy Vide Show On weed/Marijuana/Cannabis/Ganja. Intense Talk On Weed

High Maintenance: the weed-smoking comedy set to change the face of the webseries

High Maintenance, the webseries created by husband-and-wife team Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, is not a stoner comedy. An anthology set in the apartments and attic spaces of New York’s creative types, the show focuses on a sprawl of unrelated smokers, all of whom share the same dealer: a cheerful, bearded man simply known as The Guy. Instead, each episode follows the character or group of characters he’s delivering weed to, in the moments leading up to the point of sale, from the cancer sufferer looking to use the munchies to combat appetite suppression, to the homeowners needing to unwind after a exhausting time hosting Airbnb guests. Last month, the streaming site, which has hosted High Maintenance throughout its run, announced a deal to make the show its first original series, providing funding for future episodes. High Maintenance highlights the advantages the webseries has over TV.

Episodes can be as long or short as their creators want them to be, and released when they’re ready. Crucially, unlike the low-budget style of many webseries, High Maintenance looks great, filmed with a hazy dreaminess comparable with the lusher end of TV and independent film. The comic Hannibal Buress turns up in the series’ darkest episode, playing a stand-up who gets shot during one of his performances. Stevens raved about the show in a newspaper column and got in touch about appearing in an episode. The Stevens episode is perhaps the best encapsulation of what High Maintenance is about, not only in its storytelling style – the episode features a warm, expectation-confounding twist – but also in the way it reflects the spread of people who recreationally use weed.

Both Stevens’s character and his wife are affluent, family-driven people, who just happen to enjoy smoking pot, while in other episodes we see The Guy dealing to psychiatrists, doctors, even a cast member of Wicked. Blichfeld and Sinclair argue that High Maintenance is representative of shifting attitudes to the drug. High Maintenance is available to watch now on Vimeo.

While 4/20 might be the official ‘unofficial stoner holiday,’ May 24th remains a significant date in marijuana lore in its own right-it’s 1/2 of the legendary comedy duo Cheech and Chong’s birthday. Today especially, is an extra special celebratory day for potheads and marijuana advocates alike, as the stoner comedy pioneer Tommy Chong turns 80. Chong, who has advocated for legal marijuana since his early stoner comedy days, is now beginning to see his dreams come to fruition. By 1965, Chong and his band, Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers, signed with Gordy Records and recorded their debut eponymous album. After releasing two additional singles, the group broke up after Chong and bandmate Wes Henderson were fired from Motown for failing to acquire green cards to become U.S.

citizens. Chong then returned to Vancouver, British Columbia, to run a couple of local strip joints with his brother. After settling on the name ‘Cheech and Chong,’ the soon-to-be-infamous comedy team released their self-titled debut comedy album in 1971, which was nominated for a Grammy. The duo would go on to release four more Grammy-nominated comedy albums, including Big Bambu, Los Cochinos, Cheech & Chong’s Wedding Album and Sleeping Beauty. He ended up serving 9 months in prison for the endeavor, with many questioning the ethics of the case and whether or not Chong’s status as a stoner comedian caused his ultimate downfall.

In 2012, Chong announced he was suffering from prostate cancer. In 2015, Chong stated that his cancer had returned, this time colorectal. Now, Chong gets to enjoy the fruits of his, and so many other cannabis pioneers’ labors, through his own special brand of weed: Chong’s Choice, which is available in dispensaries throughout several weed-legal states.

Marijuana Legalzed In California As Of Jan. 1, But New Laws Still Smoky

Marijuana, the recreational drug that has launched a thousand comedy and dramatic bits on TV and film, will become legal in California as of January 1st. Now the problem is navigating the crazy-quilt of regulations and law enforcement that will still govern marijuana’s use and possession in the state. Thanks to the passage of Proposition 64 in November, 2016, legalizing the sale and cultivation of recreational marijuana for adults, California will be the biggest state to legalize by far. Despite the proposition passing by 57 percent, it still remains controversial in some quarters, and governments are not fully behind the movement. Los Angeles is a prime example of the hurdles in the new law.

The city delayed accepting applications for legal sales until Jan. 3, causing a delay of weeks in any recreational shops opening. Other places – like California’s Kern County – have banned commercial activity. Even though recreational use is now legal, you can’t smoke it in public, or within 1,000 feet of a school or daycare center when children are present. Smoking weed from legal establishments will also be more expensive than street versions, thanks to the taxes imposed by the state. California anticipates generating a billion dollars in new revenue from recreational sales within a few years.

At least one business has embraced the anticipated new wave of recreational use. Jack in the Box Inc. has partnered with a digital media company backed by Snoop Dogg on a new munchie meal for hungry smokers, becoming the first national fast food chain to formally embrace the marijuana user community. The meal features two tacos, french fries, onion rings, five mini churros, three chicken strips and a small drink.

Marijuana in ‘It’s Complicated’ Contributes to R Rating

The rumpus comes amid informal discussion about tweaking the ratings formula, particularly where R is involved. The M.P.A.A., a trade organization financed by the major studios, has ruminated about dividing the R rating into new categories. Nancy Meyers, who directed the film, declined to comment, as did Universal and the film’s producers. If the difference between a PG-13 and an R rating can be tens of millions of dollars at the box office, the last thing studios want is to slice the pie thinner. Some in the industry see something deeper at work, arguing that the trade organization is on its best behavior because it has a lame-duck leader in Dan Glickman and because Congressional elections will take place next year.

The Federal Trade Commission harshly criticized the movie industry this month for inappropriately advertising movies with PG-13 and R ratings to children. Instead, the ratings board was concerned about what the movie did not have: a negative consequence for the behavior. The board, according to these people, thought the scene was uproariously funny and could leave children with a strong message that smoking marijuana is fun. The opposite, of course, could be argued: One way to make young people think that marijuana is uncool is to show the white-haired Mr. Martin, 64, smoking it.

Ms. Graves said the board has grown more strict about drug use over the last two decades. It is hard to argue that cannabis has become anything but more routine over the years. There are now about 1,000 medical marijuana dispensaries in the Los Angeles area alone, according to city estimates; as a point of reference, there are fewer than 300 Starbucks outposts.

Marijuana Cook Books Comedy Animation Ganjalicious Recipe

Stoner Comedy Pioneer And Ganjapreneur Tommy Chong Still Toking And Joking At 80

LOS ANGELES – Yeah man, Tommy Chong says he always knew he’d live to see the day marijuana legalization would be sweeping America. He even knew in 2003 when Chong was imprisoned for nine months for conspiring to distribute handcrafted artisanal bongs the government declared drug paraphernalia. So much so that when the High Priest of Stoner Comedy turns 80 on Thursday – that’s right, 80 – he expects his Chong’s Choice brand of marijuana, available in legal dispensaries in several states, will be consumed in abundance at the parties his family is planning. Not that he was ever a heavy pot user, Chong says, just a consistent connoisseur. When no other hits followed, Motown dropped the group, and the Canadian-born Chong returned to Vancouver, British Columbia, where he ran a pair of strip clubs with his brother.

The pair began warming up audiences with stoner jokes, and a comedy team was born. Motown had helped Chong obtain a green card, and the two headed to fame and fortune in Los Angeles. On a recent early morning, Chong answers the door for a photo shoot at his longtime home in the hills overlooking L.A.’s wealthy Brentwood section, arriving in gray jeans, sandals and a black T-shirt advertising the name of a Colorado cannabis dispensary he recently visited. As a photographer sets up, Chong polishes off a breakfast of oatmeal topped with sliced banana. Chong, whose father emigrated from China before World War II, mostly identifies culturally as Chinese, although he’s equally proud of his Scotch, Irish and Native American ancestry from his mother’s side.

Before the pair’s bitter 1980s breakup, Cheech and Chong dominated comedy for 15 years. Those efforts generally ended in angry, insult-laden exchanges until 10 years ago when Paris Chong intervened.

Who made marijuana? (the legend of 420)

Social justice baked into the laws regulating Massachusetts’s budding marijuana industry

As Massachusetts prepares the framework for legal marijuana businesses, the state is trying to address a disparity in the way authorities used to apply anti-drug laws. The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission is acknowledging in its regulations that people of color and residents of poorer neighborhoods have been targeted for drug enforcement at higher rates than people who are white and of wealthier means. Cities with the most arrests and convictions under marijuana laws are being given a break. As part of the commission’s plan, marijuana business applicants who have been unfairly subjected to these disparities will become part of the commission’s Social Equity Program. The program offers people a variety of benefits, including employee training courses and help raising money to get their businesses off the ground.

First-year law students in the Legal Skills in Social Context program researched how existing legislation in other states has prohibited certain communities from participating in the newfound legal marijuana industry. According to the Drug Policy Alliance, a nonprofit organization whose mission includes decriminalizing responsible drug use, nearly 80 percent of people in federal prison for drug offences and almost 60 percent in state prisons are black or Latino, despite the fact these groups use and sell drugs at similar rates to whites. Allowing people with a record of marijuana-related violations to take part in the legal pot industry is a first for states that have legalized marijuana, according to Leo Beletsky, associate professor of law and health sciences at Northeastern. The commission identified 29 municipalities in the state that have had historically high rates of arrest, conviction, and incarceration related to marijuana crimes. Title, who this week served as a guest lecturer in Beletsky’s class, has been involved in the marijuana legalization movement for more than a decade.

She lauded the people who appointed the commission members, saying they brought a wide-range of expertise to the table. Her focus on social justice was the driving force behind the regulations that seek to level the playing field.

Chong’s career first started back in Calgary, where he began playing the guitar at 16 years-old. After releasing two additional singles, the group broke up after Chong and bandmate Wes Henderson were fired from Motown for failing to acquire green cards to become U.S.

citizens. The pair’s first feature film, Cheech and Chong’s Up In Smoke, was released in 1978 and became an instant cult classic and staple of the burgeoning pro-cannabis counterculture. The film spawned two successful sequels: Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie in 1980, and Nice Dreams in 1981.

The pair then followed up with a trio of lesser-renowned films in Things Are Tough All Over, Still Smokin, and the non-stoner flick Cheech & Chong’s The Corsican Brothers. Now, Chong gets to enjoy the fruits of his, and so many other cannabis pioneers’ labors, through his own special brand of weed: Chong’s Choice, which is available in dispensaries throughout several weed-legal states. According to the AP, Chong’s Choice will be the pot of choice throughout his 80th birthday festivities.

Miley Cyrus Reveals Her Reasons for Quitting Weed

In 1995, photographer Gavin Evans was commissioned by Time Out magazine in London to shoot David Bowie, during the recording of ‘Outside’. The results were a series of distinctive portraits that became widely used and well-known, and are currently on display in Harpa’s new fourth-floor gallery. The show’s central image is something darker-a close-up shot in which Bowie gazes at the viewer with a vulnerable, almost existential expression. It’s a particularly humane portrait of the singer that’s very much at odds with the stylized characters for which he became famous. Two years later, Gavin got an email from Bowie’s management about the image.

Despite the naturalistic look of the shoot, Bowie still had some creative input.
