Cannabis Situational Comedy: Netflix’s “Disjointed” Spoiler-Free Review

If you haven’t already seen the promos or missed the trailers in between your favorite Netflix shows, Disjointed is the streaming giant’s new cannabis sitcom. While marijuana has played a key role in successful TV comedies, no one has dared to make it the focus of a live thirty-minute sitcom. Cannabis, even medical, as the driving force is a bold choice that could limit viewership. Co-created by series hit maker Chuck Lorre, the show centers around a veteran cannabis advocate named Ruth Whitefeather Feldman, played by Academy Award winner Kathy Bates, who opens her own L.A. medical marijuana dispensary.

The first two episodes are saturated with surface level one-liners, most of which involved weed. I imagine writing these two was hard since there’s lots of cannabis education that must be setup for the audience to understand the story. Cannabis patients will recognize the dispensary’s stocked with familiar, carefully placed brand name products-Kiva bars, VCC Cannabis Quencher, Honey Pot honey-though so far only flower has been mentioned. The live laughter seems unnecessary and over-the-top, making the comedy feel forced, though probably not to a cannabis newbie. Plays on lots of marijuana stereotypes, with each character representing a different cannabis user.

Ruth is the older hippie who also claims to be a shaman; Travis is a millennial eager to make it big in the industry; Jenny is the token Asian; Olivia is the small town girl afraid to get too comfortable with weed for fear it’ll lead to harder drugs; Carter is the war vet dealing with mental issues but resistant to cannabis; and Pete is the young hippie who treats his plants like kids. The two represent marijuana in the new age and their wacky personalities and cluelessness make for some well built jokes. The laugh track feels a bit juvenile, some of the jokes are layups and every marijuana stereotype is played out, but the acting, particularly by Kathy Bates, has its moments.

Cheech & Chong Can’t Stand Marijuana-Hater Jeff Sessions: ‘I Can’t Sleep at Night, Man!’

The duo Cheech & Chong-comprised of Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong-were among the first comics to attain rock star status due to their embrace of the ’70s counterculture movement, as well as their feature film debut, Up in Smoke. After releasing a half-dozen movies, several hit comedy albums, splitting acrimoniously in the ’80s, and reuniting in the ’90s, Cheech & Chong are still at it, bringing the laughs to fans across the country. Cheech: It’s making a great comeback around the world. Cheech: Probably not, unless they made it on a phone in order to save money. Chong: One time we had smoked before a scene and were in the car with the fumes waiting for someone to yell action.

There are conflicting stories about whether you were smoking weed or rolled-up lettuce during the making of the film. Chong: We were smoking a mixture of Indian herbs and lettuce in the big joints. We never smoked weed during a scene but did before filming. Cheech: I’d definitely want Paul McCartney because he’s the only Beatle that I’ve never met. Cheech: The Big Lebowski versus Cheech & Chong in a grudge match!

Cheech: Tell him the truth, man! The statue of limitations is over. Cheech: Watching him flip out when we did strange accents when we did off-camera readings with other actors.

B.C.’s legal marijuana rules: possession limit, growing at home and drug-impaired driving

The B.C. government has released more information on the use of recreational marijuana when it becomes legal in Canada later this year. In urban areas, licensed retailers will only be allowed to sell cannabis and cannabis accessories, and will not be allowed to sell other products, such as food, gas, clothing and lottery. Anyone 19 years old or older will be allowed to possess up to 30 grams of non-medical cannabis in a public place, which aligns with the government’s proposed possession limit. People will not be allowed to use marijuana in any vehicle.

Smoking marijuana will generally be allowed in public spaces where tobacco smoking and vaping are permitted. Some provinces have already announced public smoking of marijuana will not be allowed under any circumstances. WATCH: Marijuana will not be sold alongside alcohol in B.C. Local governments will be able to set additional restrictions, as they do for tobacco use. New regulations will also be introduced to give police more tools to remove drug-impaired drivers from the road, including a new 90-day administrative driving prohibition for drug-affected driving.

Home cultivation of non-medical cannabis will be banned in dwellings used as daycares. Farnworth said there are still a lot of regulations that need to fall into place, including more information on medical marijuana. Marijuana advocates were more charitable – particularly regarding the ban on co-location of pot and liquor. LISTEN: Unionized workers not impressed by marijuana announcements.

Upset Tummy? Researchers Suggest Marijuana Edibles May Help ⋆ The Emerald Report

Researchers from the University of Connecticut were recently trying to find out how to decrease inflammation in the intestines and found that when they fed lab mice capsaicin – the stuff that makes chili peppers taste hot – they would have less inflammation. It turns out that the anandamide found in capsaicin is in marijuana, affecting the same receptors in the brain, lowering immune response and limiting inflammation. Capsaicin binds to a receptor in the brain called TRPV1. This interaction produces a chemical called anandamide which are lipids that engage cannabinoid receptors. The chemicals found in marijuana engage the same receptors, but that the endogenous variety is produced by our own bodies.

These findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Because marijuana is still a schedule I drug, it’s difficult to get a federal license to study marijuana; as such it’s hard to know if ingesting marijuana can create similar results as hot peppers. If the Federal restrictions were lifted, this research could lead to new therapies for diabetes and colitis. As it stands now, Srivastava and his colleagues don’t know how or why anandamide might relay messages between the immune system and the brain. The macrophage population and activity level increases when anandamide levels increase.

The effects pervade the entire upper gut, including the esophagus, stomach, and pancreas. They are still working with mice to see whether it also affects disorders in the bowels, such as colitis.

FOR SALE: Recreational Marijuana!

Including Camper’s regular medical patients, Organic Solutions of the Desert is serving 300 to 350 people a day. OSD has been in business for seven years and Camper was one of the first in the city legally licensed to sell medicinal marijuana. DOUBLING STAFF. Camper hired new help bringing his total employees to 22, but anticipates he will have to double his staff to make things run even more smoothly. Camper did his best to make sure he had everything covered his first day open for recreational sales, including additional parking.

An eighteen-gallon container sits open with a large taught bag of marijuana Camper had to reject because the grower did not have proper paperwork that made it legal for Camper to sell. Relying on his attorneys for the more complex questions, Camper constantly checks the State’s various websites for up-to-date information. Camper does a little business with Northern California, but chooses to support local growers as much as he can. Camper always believed marijuana would be legal someday. Camper is optimistic that the states that allow legal marijuana and are heavily invested have too much tax revenue to lose, and will fight back against any move to stop marijuana sales.

At the time, there was no simple way to treat Hep C and Camper turned to marijuana. HELPING THE HOMELESS. For now, Camper’s clientele are 75 percent medicinal and 25 percent recreational. Camper is considering retiring, maybe in a year, to let the next generation take over.

Maine Legislators Override Governor’s Veto of Marijuana Legalization

For the last year and a half, Maine’s governor, Paul LePage, has been blocking implementation of a 2016 ballot initiative that legalized marijuana for recreational use. Yesterday state legislators showed their patience with LaPage’s objections had been exhausted, overriding his veto of a bill aimed at creating a system to license and regulate commercial production and distribution of cannabis. The vote was 109 to 39 in the House and 28 to 6 in the Senate, well in excess of the two-thirds required. LePage’s April 27 veto message made it clear that he is implacably opposed to the marijuana policy that voters endorsed when they approved Question 1 in 2016. While anyone who grows or sells marijuana is committing a federal felony, it is less clear that officials who license and regulate marijuana businesses are thereby violating the Controlled Substances Act.

Arguably they are simply certifying that the businesses have met the requirements to escape punishment under state law. Assuming that the CSA does prohibit licensing and regulation of the marijuana industry, it is clearly at odds with the federalist principles embodied in the 10th Amendment, which let each state decide for itself how to deal with production and distribution of cannabis within its borders. Presumably that is one reason why even Maine legislators who opposed legalization are determined to follow the will of the state’s voters.

Virgin, Richard Branson and Marijuana. Comedy or farce?

Between 2017-2018 California and Colorado both have seen a decrease in opioid overdose deaths by 27%. This is a 3x greater annual decrease in overdose deaths than 2016 reports a 9% decrease in opioid overdose deaths in states with recreational cannabis. Never before have we seen a decrease in opiate overdose deaths in this… country. Now, states with legalized cannabis are seeing a dramatic decrease in opioid overdose deaths.

New Jersey arrested over 35,000 people for marijuana in 2017.⬇????New Jersey citizens are paying over $55,000 a year to keep ONE person in jail for possessing marijuana. The state of New Jersey has run out of funding for substance abuse treatment at the beginning of this month, May 2018 Just five months into the calendar year and #NJ state funding for substance abuse treatment is gone. We still arrest citizens for marijuana on a daily basis costing $55,000 a year to hold just one inmate. California saved over 30 million dollars for college grants, generated by the proceeds of cannabis sales in 2017 alone. The legal cannabis industry of California produced over 27 million dollars for the curriculum of the California state board of education in 2017.

Integrating responsible cannabis and substance abuse education into our children’s school system curriculum is necessary! With only five dispensaries available to over 20,000 NJ patients and counting, a delivery system would only make sense, more sensibly a home grow provision in our opinion. Over 100 patients are being added a day and we have five facilities to treat them. People are dying every day from our epidemics, we know cannabis saves, yet New Jersey continues to slow pedal its way to expand access to our patients.

The Gardener’s Gripe Book: Abby Adams: 0019628036476: Amazon.com: Books

Seventeen chapters and about 240 deckle-edged, heavy paper pages are provided in this well-produced 1995 book. Her writing is light-hearted, but she knows her soils, her weevils, her seeds, weeds, and gardener’s deeds. Some are just part of gardening: heat, cold, rain, drought, winds, a plague of locusts. About these gardeners can do little else than work with bell, book, and candle on curses, exhortations, and incantations. Some gripes come from inexperience: one learns from experience to plant lettuces early in successive seedings to avoid a glut that has the gardener pushing salad on the unwary and learns also to pluck the zucchini while ’tis in its’ tender youth.

Some of Adams’ gripes derive from over-ambition: sow a quarter acre of garden & one also can have a life. For these gripes and other sources of blood, sweat, and tears, Adams has wry comments, amusing observations, and nuggets of advice. Inexperienced gardeners may find the book useful & charming, particularly with the admirable Jeff Seaver’s delightful illustrations that match the writing like tomatoes and basil. Abby Adams offers a fine further-readings list of 46 books including Jane Austen, van Gogh, and White. Readers might yearn to share a bottle of good vino with gardening writer whose personal readings are so diverse!

At used book prices this a worthy value that can be an affordable treat; my copy which arrived in fine condition cost only a few cents. Most gardeners will recognize and chuckle at the troubles and triumphs that can be associated with trowels, tribbles, and dibbles.

New Jersey’s Path to Marijuana Legalization

New Jersey’s newly elected Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy touted the economic and social-justice benefits of legalizing cannabis during his campaign last year. While Assemblymember Reed Gusciora’s measure would allow home cultivation, state Sen. Nicholas Scutari’s wouldn’t. In one of his first moves in office, Gov.

Murphy ordered a study of expanding the state’s largely ineffective medical-marijuana program, which should be completed by March. Legal recreational cannabis will most likely not be on store shelves in the Garden State until 2020. The anti-pot group New Jersey Responsible Approaches to Marijuana Policy praised the move. To answer questions from influential politicians such as state Sen. Ron Rice, the NJCA has set up a meeting in Trenton on February 24 with CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, the American Civil Liberties Union, a retired Drug Enforcement Administration agent and others.

On Feb. 7, Gov. Murphy and other New Jersey lawmakers went on a fact-finding trip to Las Vegas to study Nevada’s cannabis laws. Rudder cites research that show a 25% drop in opioid overdoses and reduced alcohol use in states with legal cannabis. To win licenses, cannabis businesses will be required to reveal their founders’ tax returns and show employee manuals, business and quality-assurance plans, accounting procedures, and security and badge systems to limit employees’ access to cannabis. Despite these challenges, the state’s cannabis supporters sense positive change is ahead.

Heather Kumer, a law associate at Connell Foley, said reform has been on her radar since she joined Students for a Sensible Drug Policy in 2004 when she was in college and asked Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry a question about legalization. David Lande, a Democrat who lost in his attempt to win a state Senate seat in central Jersey last November, now wants to get into the extraction side of the business. He’s not sure how long it will take to win over reluctant state officials.

‘Sparse’ marijuana market expected

The CCC on Tuesday approved another 16 economic empowerment applicants and two registered marijuana dispensary companies to have their license applications reviewed on an expedited basis. Even as the CCC announced that 25 prospective marijuana businesses have submitted a license application, Chairman Steven Hoffman said municipal roadblocks and issues around ensuring a supply of marijuana could limit the initial size of the industry. Before the CCC will approve a license, the applicant must demonstrate that they have held a community meeting and executed a host community agreement with the city or town. Many towns across the state have imposed moratoria or bans on retail marijuana shops, further complicating things as businesses try to get off the ground. Before any business can open, it needs to secure a supply of marijuana to sell.

Only RMDs are allowed to grow marijuana commercially and new licenses for cultivation will not be approved by the CCC until at least June 1. The Boston Globe reported in March that at least 189 of the 351 municipalities have banned retail marijuana stores and most have also imposed restrictions on other marijuana businesses. The CCC approved another 18 applicants for its priority license application review program, bringing the total number of applicants who can skip to the front of the line when the CCC begins reviewing license applications to 148 – 79 RMDs and 69 economic empowerment applicants. Those approved for priority review can submit their license application at any time, regardless of which type of license they are seeking. The CCC began on Tuesday accepting license applications from anyone interested in licenses for cultivation, craft marijuana cooperatives, microbusinesses, transporters and independent testing labs.

Marijuana retailers and product manufacturers that have not been approved for priority review will be able to apply for licenses beginning June 1. The CCC cannot legally issue a license until June 1 and expects legal sales to begin July 1.

Big-name investors pour millions into marijuana

Wealthy investors are pouring tens of millions into the cannabis industry in a bid to capitalize on the gold rush that’s expected when California legalizes recreational marijuana on Jan. 1. In the first public endorsement of the industry from a major biotech investor, Thiel’s Founders Fund has sent millions to Privateer Holdings, a Seattle private equity firm that backs research into medical marijuana products, among other cannabis-related ventures. Experts say the market for marijuana and related products in California will reach $6.5 billion in 2020, and likely spark legalization efforts elsewhere. Given that most states have already legalized cannabis for medical use, and seven states plus the District of Columbia allow recreational use, most investors think that federal officials eventually will relent and regulate marijuana more like alcohol. Los Angeles-based private equity firm MedMen has raised about $80 million for cannabis projects in the last year.

Nearly half of all investments into cannabis companies nationally come from California, according to the finance-tracking firm Pitchbook. That’s no surprise to Ben Larson, founder of Gateway, a cannabis business incubator in Oakland. Arcview has helped about 600 wealthy individuals invest more than $131 million in cannabis companies since 2010. It would circumvent federal strictures that prevent cannabis businesses from securing traditional loans – and if it works, could open the floodgates of investment. His investments have included vaporizer companies and Meadow, a website and delivery service that helps customers compare marijuana products.

Even Dora, Paxhia’s rescue dog, has joined the revolution: Pet pot nibbles from Oakland-based Treatibles – dosed with CBD, a chemical in cannabis that is not intoxicating – help her chill out, quelling anxiety that led to late-night barking, he said. As with medical marijuana for humans, the FDA has not approved any form of cannabis for pets.

The Top 25 Marijuana Destinations in the World

We’re sharing with you what cannabis enthusiasts with a travel bug have long known – the following cities are the top marijuana destinations in the world, listed in alphabetical order. Personal possession of marijuana is legal, and efforts are being made to legalize and regulate its retail sale within the city. As mentioned above, marijuana is illegal in Denmark, though the Mayor of Copenhagen has expressed interest in seeing it legalized in his city. For art museums, the Danish National Gallery in central Copenhagen is a popularstop, but growing in standing amongst critics is the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, just north of the city and showing some of the most interesting modern art in the world. The ancient mountain city of Machu Pichu, world famous Lake Titi Caca, and the Amazon forest are all within reach from the city.

As we explain below, small amounts of marijuana are decriminalized in Peru, and Cusco is located near the Andean growing region, so good weed is to be found in the city. For cannabis users, the city’s intricate and oft-used network of delivery services offers some of the best buds and most variety of anywhere in the world. Marijuana is illegal in the state of New York and within the city, but the laws are some of the friendliest in the non-legalized states. Why Go:. The stunning city of Prague is known for its architecture, art museums, and first-class cuisine, but the Czech Republic is also one of the most progressive countries in the world when it comes to drug law.

Toronto is a city of immigrants, and its diverse populations from the world over have shaped it into a dynamic, bustling melting pot. Police have stated that they simply have greater priorities, and so it is easy to buy and consume marijuana in Vancouver, especially for medical patients; the city has seen a boom in dispensaries, so that there are now as many dispensaries as there are McDonald’s. Zurich, along with several other cities, has spent the past year looking into the creation of private cannabis clubs, where adults could buy and consume marijuana.

Police training lags as marijuana legalization looms: documents

The number of police officers trained to recognize and respond to signs of drug impairment on Canada’s roads hasn’t budged much over the last few months, new documents show, a situation that some critics say could prove dangerous once marijuana becomes legal this summer. About 150 of those officers had received their training sometime over the previous 10 months. The overall total includes hundreds of officers from municipal and provincial police forces, along with 196 members of the RCMP. Forty more police officers were scheduled for training by the end of March, the documents state. DRE training is different than the training officers receive to detect if someone is high at the side of the road.

If a driver is suspected of being under the influence, the officer at the scene can conduct what are known as standardized field sobriety tests. In addition to the 665 DRE-certified officers, about 3,380 officers are now trained in side-of-the-road sobriety testing in Canada, according to the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. The total number of front-line police officers serving in Canada, including RCMP, is around 22,000. The association of police chiefs has been flagging the need for additional training for months, including last September during testimony before a House of Commons committee. Even Ottawa has acknowledged that much of the planned training will happen after legalization.

Like the Ottawa Police Service, have already said they need more guidance and information on training. The documents also shed light on the status of the preparations underway at the Canada Border Services Agency, revealing that 20 CBSA officers have now received training to become instructors in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. In an intelligence report obtained by Global News in February, the CBSA acknowledged that officers would require additional training in response. In addition to the complexities of training officers to deal with high drivers, there are still lingering questions surrounding what, exactly, constitutes pot impairment.

High Maintenance: the weed-smoking comedy set to change the face of the webseries

High Maintenance, the webseries created by husband-and-wife team Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, is not a stoner comedy. An anthology set in the apartments and attic spaces of New York’s creative types, the show focuses on a sprawl of unrelated smokers, all of whom share the same dealer: a cheerful, bearded man simply known as The Guy. Instead, each episode follows the character or group of characters he’s delivering weed to, in the moments leading up to the point of sale, from the cancer sufferer looking to use the munchies to combat appetite suppression, to the homeowners needing to unwind after a exhausting time hosting Airbnb guests. Last month, the streaming site, which has hosted High Maintenance throughout its run, announced a deal to make the show its first original series, providing funding for future episodes. High Maintenance highlights the advantages the webseries has over TV.

Episodes can be as long or short as their creators want them to be, and released when they’re ready. Crucially, unlike the low-budget style of many webseries, High Maintenance looks great, filmed with a hazy dreaminess comparable with the lusher end of TV and independent film. The comic Hannibal Buress turns up in the series’ darkest episode, playing a stand-up who gets shot during one of his performances. Stevens raved about the show in a newspaper column and got in touch about appearing in an episode. The Stevens episode is perhaps the best encapsulation of what High Maintenance is about, not only in its storytelling style – the episode features a warm, expectation-confounding twist – but also in the way it reflects the spread of people who recreationally use weed.

Both Stevens’s character and his wife are affluent, family-driven people, who just happen to enjoy smoking pot, while in other episodes we see The Guy dealing to psychiatrists, doctors, even a cast member of Wicked. Blichfeld and Sinclair argue that High Maintenance is representative of shifting attitudes to the drug. High Maintenance is available to watch now on Vimeo.

While 4/20 might be the official ‘unofficial stoner holiday,’ May 24th remains a significant date in marijuana lore in its own right-it’s 1/2 of the legendary comedy duo Cheech and Chong’s birthday. Today especially, is an extra special celebratory day for potheads and marijuana advocates alike, as the stoner comedy pioneer Tommy Chong turns 80. Chong, who has advocated for legal marijuana since his early stoner comedy days, is now beginning to see his dreams come to fruition. By 1965, Chong and his band, Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers, signed with Gordy Records and recorded their debut eponymous album. After releasing two additional singles, the group broke up after Chong and bandmate Wes Henderson were fired from Motown for failing to acquire green cards to become U.S.

citizens. Chong then returned to Vancouver, British Columbia, to run a couple of local strip joints with his brother. After settling on the name ‘Cheech and Chong,’ the soon-to-be-infamous comedy team released their self-titled debut comedy album in 1971, which was nominated for a Grammy. The duo would go on to release four more Grammy-nominated comedy albums, including Big Bambu, Los Cochinos, Cheech & Chong’s Wedding Album and Sleeping Beauty. He ended up serving 9 months in prison for the endeavor, with many questioning the ethics of the case and whether or not Chong’s status as a stoner comedian caused his ultimate downfall.

In 2012, Chong announced he was suffering from prostate cancer. In 2015, Chong stated that his cancer had returned, this time colorectal. Now, Chong gets to enjoy the fruits of his, and so many other cannabis pioneers’ labors, through his own special brand of weed: Chong’s Choice, which is available in dispensaries throughout several weed-legal states.

3 face marijuana distribution charges

FROM STAFF REPORTS. Three men face intent to distribute charges after more than 100 grams of marijuana, thousands of dollars in cash and other items were found inside a Bama Lane residence. Officers with Sumter Police Department’s Organized Crime and Vice Control Unit responded to the residence at 845 Bama Lane Apartment 3 on Feb. 23 after receiving a complaint about suspected drug activity at the location. Detectives confirmed accounts of a strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence before obtaining a warrant and searching the home where more than 300 grams of marijuana, more than $3,000 in cash and a handgun were seized. Officers also found equipment used in the sale of drugs.

Arkeem Armond Singleton, 24, of the home, was apprehended by officers while trying to flee from the back of the house. He is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, fourth offense, and felon in possession of a handgun. Two other men who were inside the house, 24-year-old Willie Nathaniel Ray Jr., of 801 Coachman Drive, and 31-year-old Rashad Deon Rajah, of 14 Gate St., are both charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Medicinal & Recreational Marijuana Dispensary Resource

They say humans are like snowflakes because no two are the same-and on a cellular level, that’s true. It was the wee hours of Wednesday morning, April 18, and the sun had yet to rise. I was adrift in my subconscious, scrolling through the feelings and disjointed thoughts that never make it to the surface. What separates the cannabis industry from the rest is the number of women executives. According to a 2017 Marijuana Business Daily reader survey, women hold 27 percent of executive-level roles in the cannabis industry.

That’s a healthy edge over U.S. businesses as a whole, where women comprise 23 percent of executive positions. What’s fascinating about California’s legal cannabis industry is that nearly 80 percent of municipalities still prohibit cannabis. Although cannabis is de-criminalized and therefore quasi-legal, much work remains to be done in terms of acceptance. Somehow Orange County is represented in the other 20 percent.

Thanks to Santa Ana, a healthy cannabis industry exists. In most cases, you can’t rely on a debit or credit card to facilitate a transaction at a dispensary. As a result, the cannabis industry is solely cash-based,.

Prop 64: Adult Use of Marijuana

Prop 64 would legalize marijuana and hemp in California. You could not consume marijuana in public or drive high. The estimated revenue from the sale and cultivation of marijuana is $1 billion or more annually. Marijuana sales and use would be tracked controlled and regulated like alcohol. Taxing marijuana would bring in millions of much needed revenue to California.

Big tobacco will move in and take over the marijuana business. With marketing and advertising of marijuana more young people will be exposed to pot. Greater marijuana smoking will lead to increases in cancer, heart attacks, strokes and long-lasting decline in brain function. Back in 1972 a proposition was on the ballot that would have decriminalized the use and possession of marijuana by those 18 and older. Federal law still classifies marijuana as a dangerous and illegal drug, but enforcement has tapered off.

When medical marijuana clinics first opened up in California many were raided and shut down by federal agents. Marijuana has been legalized in Colorado, Washington, Oregon and Alaska.

Download Movie TORRENT

The movie feels very adult, plenty of swearwords and nudity and such and a typical Scorcese like voice-over and a good story and competent acting. Jonathan Daniel Brown is very good in the lead but my favorite performance comes from Aaron Yoo as a menacing rival of his. The only ‘bad thing’ I can say is that, it could have dug deeper into the characters; the female characters are all pretty empty and most are only there for eye-candy and the movie is low budget and it shows and feels like it was shot in a couple weeks at the most. Comparing it to ‘Blow’ might get your hopes a little too high I know realise, it doesn’t have the feeling of a epic trials and tribulations of a drug kingpin which that had but I mean it’s definitely above average when it comes to these sorts of movies. It most definitely entertains from start to finish with plenty of humor to go with the based on a true story.

NBA Open to Discussing Medical Cannabis

A recent post on reddit suggests that NBA commissioner Adam Silver is at least open to the idea. There may not be as much pain in the NBA as there is in the NFL, but there is certainly wear and tear. Professional basketball players routinely push their bodies to the limits. About twelve years ago, many players decided to curtail their use of prescription anti-inflammatory drugs for fear of kidney and liver damage. Cannabis is a natural anti-inflammatory and has no real side affects, except for perhaps a pleasant buzz.

As it is now, cannabis use can get an NBA player suspended, although that wasn’t always the case. Old school fans will recall when former Celtics Center Robert Parish got busted for receiving cannabis in the mail. Many former players are now looking to capitalize on the new legalization. Former Portland Trailblazer Cliff Robinson and International Cannabis Business Conference panelist and former Detroit PIston John Salley have each started cannabis based businesses. Ngaio Bealum is a writer, comedian, cannabis activist, and a decent juggler.

You can catch him on the road performing at events like the Dope Show in Tacoma, Washington, and MCing the International Cannabis Business Conference.

Podcast: Bill Nye sciences the heck out of marijuana for Netflix

Venerable entertainer and mechanical engineer Bill Nye – famous for his schtick as ‘the science guy’ – returns to Netflix Dec. 29 for season two of his Emmy-nominated series Bill Nye Saves the World. The season debuts with an episode centered around marijuana. I also didn’t really know the history of marijuana becoming schedule 1 and I didn’t really know how the medical profession feels about marijuana. People use marijuana for everything medically and there’s questions about how it affects you when you’re young, like drinking like alcohol. So we investigated this and the upshot is if anybody tells you he knows all about marijuana and how it works he really doesn’t.

You would buy and sell the marijuana species as the reefer of the realm. There’s no question that men’s sperm is affected by marijuana smoking. I will say also as a taxpayer and voter I hope it doesn’t become so readily accepted that people smoke all the time the way they used to smoke cigarettes and the smell of marijuana smoke is in everything the way it used to be when I was growing up. It’s not detectable in your blood whereas marijuana is in your blood apparently for two weeks at least. In California, there’s marijuana dispensaries everywhere.

We’re passing laws or not passing laws because of presumptions and assumptions about marijuana – some of which have just got to be wrong. Whereas marijuana laws are passed because of certainty about the science of marijuana.

mi amor, porque te vas – dj hatfield

It turned out that the song the faki mentioned was not an uruguayan song after all, but one that had shared meaning in the context of the relationships that formed in port. True to form, he can weave the hook into an evening of ‘amis songs as he plays Am until dawn. Once one sings the hook, more than a few other people will recognize it, this song about a boat leaving uruguay. He sings part of the song as he remembers the lyrics, the words about a boat leaving. Curious about the song, i later discover that the song as he sings it is a parody of an internationally popular song with spanish, french, and english language versions.

The song was first performed by jeanette, a singer active in spain in the mid-1970s. The song became popular in 1976 because of its appearance in a critically acclaimed film. Because w faki never mentions that the song circulated on the radio or on recordings-odd, because he does talk about listening to vinyl records and consuming music in live music venues in capetown-he is likely only to have heard it performed live in uruguay. The musical form is compelling, but the song circulated among ‘amis musicians in the context of the far ocean fishing trade. Today, it still signals the cosmopolitan outlook of men who took to the boats.

As the faki plays the song, he tells me about performing at a club in capetown. A sonic trace of his travels, it also indicates the circuits in which ‘amis musicians absorbed latin musics.

Governor Deal: No medical marijuana for AIDS patients

State Rep. Allen Peake’s medical marijuana bill is the talk of this year’s legislative session-well, along with this other little bill that’s gotten a little press. Heck, the Macon Republican’s proposed legislation is literally House Bill 1. We want the cannabis oil to be available for the children. I think law enforcement and district attorneys that have expressed opinions on this believe that if it’s not drafted very, very tightly and can’t be enforced with certainty, it lends itself to a situation where we cannot control it I share those concerns.

That’s why it is difficult to draft this kind of legislation. The law enforcement and district attorneys that Deal is referring to are the Prosecuting Attorneys Council and the Georgia Sheriffs Association, who have voiced their objections to the longer list of conditions. He pumped his brakes a bit now that the governor has had his say on the list. I’m very confident that the rigorous legislative process will provide a final version of HB 1 that will bring relief from pain and suffering for many Georgia citizens that are hurting, and meets the needed criteria to obtain the signature of Governor Deal. I wholeheartedly share the Governor’s concerns that we not pass a medical cannabis oil bill that could lead to abuse of the medicine, and we will be working with our law enforcement officials to insert safeguards in the legislation that protect against potential abuse.

Medical Marijuana Dispensary Licenses Delayed in Ohio

The Ohio Board of Pharmacy said that it has delayed the announcement of medical marijuana dispensary licenses for the state. The board had expected to make the information available on Wednesday and name as many as 56 licensees in 28 geographic areas. State regulators now expect to award provisional licenses to successful applicants at its monthly meeting scheduled for June 4-6. Cameron McNamee, a spokesman for the board, said in an email that it is taking longer than expected to process the applications. In November of 2015, Ohio voters rejected a ballot proposal that would have legalized cannabis for medical and adult use.

Only one year later, support for medical marijuana in the state had swelled. Under the law, patients with one or more of 21 serious medical conditions will be allowed to use medical cannabis. The law also bans home cultivation of medical marijuana. The Board of Pharmacy plans for patient registration to begin in July. The Board of Pharmacy’s delay may be an attempt to avoid problems similar to those experienced with the issuance of licenses to cannabis cultivators.

A spokeswoman for the Board of Commerce, Stephanie Gostomski, said the board approved applications based on data provided. All provisional licenses would be verified before they became permanent.

Georgia Senate approves medical marijuana law expansion to include AIDS

Pending the governor’s signature, Georgia AIDS patients now have access to medical marijuana. Senate Bill 16 passed the Senate this morning with a vote of 45 to 6. It’s a compromise version of the original House Bill 65, authored by Rep. Allen Peake, and expands the number of patients eligible to participate in the Georgia Low THC Cannabis Oil Registry. Sen.

Ben Watson, who authored SB 16, spoke at the well on behalf of the legislation, and made a public plea to the federal government, the Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Agency to continue expanding access to medical marijuana to those who require it. In addition to covering AIDS, SB 16 adds Tourette’s syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, epidermolysis bullosa, Alzheimer’s disease and peripheral neuropathy as instances in which Georgians can have access to the low THC cannabis oil. THC, the shorthand for tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive chemical found in marijuana. Peake told Georgia Voice that Georgia’s law caps at 5 percent THC oil because that provides therapeutic benefit for a wide range of illnesses without causing the high associated with recreational use of marijuana. Georgians who can obtain the low THC oil must overcome multiple hurdles to do so.

The main one, Peake said, is where to get the product. Because medical cannabis is not legal in all 50 states, patients are then risking federal law by transporting a controlled substance across state lines. Update 3:50 p.m.: Peake took to Twitter to praise the senators who voted in favor of SB 16 and called on voters to remember how the senators voted on the bill if/when they run for statewide office. Grateful to 45 senators who voted Yes on #medicalcannabis Many will be running for state office, remember their vote OR non-vote #gapol pic.
