Many Canadians are curious about marijuana edibles, but wary of risk to kids: survey

HALIFAX – Canadians appear to have an appetite for marijuana-infused munchies, according to a new survey that found a healthy majority both supported the legalization of recreational pot use but had clear concerns about children’s access to edible products containing cannabis. Just over 45 per cent said they would buy food containing marijuana, with 46 per cent saying they would purchase pot-laced baked goods like brownies and muffins if they were legal. People are willing to accept the legalization of non-medicinal marijuana but … recognize societal risks related to doing so. The aim of the survey, done over four weeks in August, was to gauge Canadians’ perception of recreational marijuana as a food ingredient when it is legalized next July, if they would use it in their diet and, if so, how they would prepare it.

It found that despite people’s apparent willingness to try edible products, the bulk of survey participants indicated they didn’t know how to cook with marijuana at home and most said they did not consider it a healthy ingredient. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insists legalizing marijuana will keep pot out of the hands of children and deny criminals the profits of back-alley dealing. Ottawa has said it will not allow the purchase of edible products until it develops regulatory oversight for the goods, including rules on serving sizes and potency, child-resistant packaging requirements and health warnings. Charlebois says that once marijuana becomes legal it will likely be mixed into a variety of products before Ottawa comes up with such measures. We should think about rolling out edibles as soon as possible with clear guidelines for the industry.

Charlebois cited the example of Colorado, which legalized marijuana in 2012 without regulations over the sale of cannabis-infused edibles. Colorado saw an increase in the number of marijuana-related poisonings, particularly accidental ingestion by children, in the first year of its new regime and eventually ushered in new regulations limiting THC levels in edible items. Still, Charlebois says legalized marijuana could be the next big lucrative trend in the Canadian food industry, with curiosity being the Number 1 reason survey participants cited for wanting to try the goods.

Pot can relieve chronic pain in adults, so advocates for liberalizing marijuana laws have proposed it as a lower-risk alternative to opioids. Some research suggests marijuana may encourage opioid use, and so might make the epidemic worse. The new studies don’t directly assess the effect of legalizing marijuana on opioid addiction and overdose deaths. It compared the states where marijuana laws took effect versus states without such laws. In this Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 file photo, a woman holds the prescribed medical marijuana product used to treat her daughter’s epilepsy after making a purchase at a medical marijuana dispensary in Butler, Pa.

Two new studies released on Monday, April 2, 2018 suggest that legalization of marijuana may reduce the prescribing of opioids. When states with such a law went on to also allow recreational marijuana use by adults, there was an additional drop averaging about 6 per cent. That suggest the medical marijuana laws didn’t reach some people who could benefit from using marijuana instead of opioids, said Hefei Wen of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, one of the study authors. Every year from 2010 through 2015, researchers compared states with a medical marijuana law in effect to those without one. Researchers found that Medicare patients in states with marijuana dispensaries filled prescriptions for about 14 percent fewer daily doses of opioids than those in other states.

W. David Bradford, an economist at the University of Georgia in Athens who’s an author of the second study, said the results add to other findings that suggest to experts that marijuana is a viable alternative to opioids. For one thing, they don’t reveal whether individual patients actually reduced or avoided using opioids because of the increased access to marijuana. They called for states and the federal government to pay for more studies to clarify the effect of marijuana use on opioid use, saying such research is needed for science to guide policy-making.

Shifting views on marijuana highlight just how differently people of color are impacted by drug laws

This June 5, 2017, file photo shows a marijuana leaf in the vegetative room at a cannabis cultivator in Fairbanks, Alaska. As views shift on the decriminalization of marijuana, and current and former lawmakers question existing drug laws, the fact that people of color, particularly from low-income communities, are still suffering consequences from decades-old marijuana laws is deeply concerning, critics say. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer announced Friday that he was also changing his stance on marijuana. Attitudes have obviously evolved on marijuana on a national level.

Legal marijuana sales exceeded $9 billion in 2017, according to an industry estimate. The Washington Post previously reported that polls show that more than 60 percent of Americans favor legalizing marijuana completely and more than 90 percent are in favor of legal medical use. Sen. Kirsten Gillbrand noted the disparity in how marijuana laws affect people of color, as well as low-income people. A Drug Policy Alliance report showed that arrests for offenses such as possession under the age of 21, public consumption and other still-illegal actions related to marijuana are higher for black people.

Vox reported that several studies have found that even in places where pot is legal, black people are still more likely to be arrested for marijuana offenses compared to white people. In Colorado, according to a 2016 public safety report, the marijuana arrest rate for whites and Hispanics is comparable, but the marijuana arrest rate for African Americans is almost three times that of whites. The relationship between the disproportionately high incarceration rate of black people and the role race plays in this country’s history with drug decriminalization is likely to continue to be a conversation as Americans revisit U.S. drug laws. How people of color in urban areas have been treated by this country’s drug laws appears to be a lesser concern right now.

On 4/20, Chuck Schumer To Introduce Bill To Decriminalize Marijuana

On 4/20, Chuck Schumer To Introduce Bill To Decriminalize Marijuana The top Senate Democrat will introduce a bill to decriminalize pot at the federal level. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., plans to introduce legislation on Friday to decriminalize marijuana on the federal level, adding a high-profile advocate in the effort to decriminalize, legalize and normalize marijuana use in America. Schumer’s legislation would remove marijuana from the list of scheduled substances under a 1970 law that classifies marijuana as dangerous as heroin for legal and regulatory purposes. The move is coming on 4/20, the unofficial holiday celebrating marijuana use and culture. Schumer’s support is the latest indicator of the green wave affecting American politics, with growing support across the political spectrum to change the way the federal government sees marijuana.

The reversals are fueled by a growing number of states that are successfully experimenting with changing marijuana laws – and enjoying the revenue they are bringing in to help their cash-strapped states. Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., waged a battle against the Trump administration this year after Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescinded an Obama-era memorandum that advised federal law enforcement to deprioritize marijuana for prosecution. Gardner held up Trump’s nominees for the Justice Department until he received a personal assurance from the president that his administration would not crack down on states that have legalized marijuana. Across the aisle, liberal lawmakers are likewise flocking to co-sponsor bills to roll back marijuana restrictions.

On Thursday, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, became a co-sponsor of New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker’s bill to legalize marijuana and let people convicted in the past of marijuana possession get their criminal records expunged. The three are all possible 2020 presidential contenders – another indicator of which way politicians see the country moving when it comes to marijuana policy. The Associated Press reported that a group of U.S.

health experts on Thursday endorsed the use of a medicine made from the marijuana plant to treat seizures in children.

How To Score A Weed Card | Michael Malone | Stand-Up Comedy

Should I Call 911 When My Friends Start Flipping Out On Marijuana?

It seems that just about the time the second joint starts getting passed around the room, the girlfriend of the guy that nobody really wanted there in the first place goes quiet. Her situation is a little suspect, as everyone notices that she keeps feeling her chest from time to time. That’s when the quiet girl, despite knowing deep down inside that she is having some difficulty keeping up with the group’s rotation, decides she is going to try smoking high-powered concentrates for the first time. They will soon regret offering this level of encouragement. As soon as she blows out the hit, she looks as though she has been shot in the heart at close range.

It is at that point when she starts belting out a cornucopia of strange, colorful obscenities and begging for someone, anyone to call 911. Depending on which state a person lives in, calling in the cavalry when someone starts flipping out after consuming too much marijuana can bring nothing but trouble. Since it is impossible to die from a marijuana overdose, and the herb cannot cause any damage to a person’s internal organs, calling 911 for a THC terror trip is really just a waste of time. Sometimes those ever-so-popular cannabis freak-outs and subsequent calls to 911 can lead to hilarity. His video for the song The Leaf, which is a first person account of the time he called 911 following a cannabis-induced panic attack, has left the Internet in stitches.

Allport, who also works as an Associate Producer on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, told Forbes that he thought he was having a heart attack after smoking weed for the first time. After going through a rather tumotulous experience in an upstairs bathroom, which included a life-or-death battle with a dry tongue, he was lucky enough to reach a 911 dispatcher who understood exactly what he was going through.

‘Disjointed’ Is Like Any Workplace Sitcom

‘Disjointed’ Is Like Any Workplace Sitcom – With More Pot, Sex And Language Set in a medical marijuana dispensary, the big networks all turned the show down. Chuck Lorre is, without question, television’s sitcom king. He created two of today’s top money-making syndicated shows – The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men – and his other hits over the years include Dharma & Greg, Grace Under Fire, Mike & Molly and Mom. Lorre’s new show, Disjointed, co-created with David Javerbaum, premieres Friday on Netflix. The show’s Los Angeles set is a hippy-looking shop filled with psychedelic posters and glass cases displaying actual product.

Lorre describes his latest show, Disjointed, as just a regular workplace comedy, with wacky customers and lovable employees. The family tension in Disjointed is also more literal, deriving partly from the dynamic between Bates’ Earth mother character and her much more corporate son. Bates says she needed no such coaching; the subject matter is partly what drew her to the show. People are watching Netflix stoned with or without our show – by the millions, I would imagine. If the only people who watch us are stoned people who watch Neflix, that’s an enormous audience.

His show Mom, for example, is about a pair of recovering addicts, a mother and daughter. Javerbaum is a former head writer for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and the Broadway play An Act of God.

Comedian Doug Benson tells more than marijuana jokes

Doug Benson releases one album per year, has appeared on numerous TV shows, hosts a popular web series, Getting Doug With High, as well as multiple podcasts, namely Doug Loves Movies, and occasionally stars in movies – like his Super High Me, a documentary in which he smokes marijuana every day for 30 days. All of this is, of course, in addition to doing stand up across the country and throughout the world. We recently caught up with the cannabis connoisseur to hear about his high functioning career. DB: You caught me right before I’m going to be operating a motor vehicle no, I don’t drive high. CP: Charleston’s comedy scene is growing, and there will be many aspiring and professional comics at your show.

CP: You’re known for your crazy hard work ethic, but you generally seem to downplay it. DB: Sometimes I stop and ask myself why I have so many projects going on all the time, and it’s because I enjoy it. If I didn’t like doing one of my five podcasts, I’d stop doing it. If I didn’t enjoy going out on the road, I’d stop. CP: You did some extra work years ago in big-budget films, and you’ve appeared on a number of scripted shows.

DB: If someone wanted to give me a dramatic acting role I would probably do it. It’s call Chronic-Con, and it’s about me trying to get high with people dressed as superheroes at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Podcast: How Gringo director Nash Edgerton made a cannabis comedy, never touched the stuff

While Gringo, a new slapstick comedy out this week via Amazon Studios, rides the well-trod trope of a mega corporation up to no good, there’s a modern and timely twist: they’re manufacturing cannabis pills, called Cannabax, down in Mexico. Gringo is chock-full of Grade-A goofiness – weird diatribes about space exploration, kidnappings gone awry, dirty Mexican slang, awkward office sex – but at its heart is some genuine commentary on the ethics of the exploding cannabis industry, and Big Business’ growing role in it. The film, which stars David Oyelowo and Charlize Theron, was directed by Australian stunt-double-turned-director Nash Edgerton. We caught up with Edgerton to learn more about how he came to direct the film, what he thinks about cannabis legalization, his own history with cannabis and more. For the juicy details, tune in to our conversation with Edgerton, in this week’s episode of the Hash podcast, below.

Maine House overturns governor’s veto of marijuana bill

The Maine House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to override Gov. Paul LePage’s veto of a measure to allow the commercial sale of marijuana in the state. The House overrode the veto with a 109-39 vote, according to The Portland Press Herald. The bill now heads to the state Senate, where lawmakers must vote by a two-thirds margin to overturn LePage’s veto. The newspaper previously reported that senators believe they have the support to overturn a veto.

The measure was crafted by a special legislative committee, and previously passed the House and Senate by wide margins. LePage vetoed the measure arguing that it would violate federal law. Nine states, including Maine, and the District of Columbia have moved to legalize recreational marijuana use, but the substance remains federally prohibited. Although possession of recreational marijuana has been legal in Maine since 2016, there has been no process to legally sell it in the state. The post Maine House overturns governor’s veto of marijuana bill appeared first on Cannabis Business Executive – Cannabis and Marijuana industry news.

Leftists Now Say Term ‘Marijuana’ Racist » Alex Jones’ Infowars: There’s a war on for your mind!

Leftists have set their sights on the latest problematic word in their feverish attempt to rewrite language. The word marijuana is now racist and has been expunged from the Newspeak dictionary. The article goes on to state that despite legalization, high arrests continue to be made in certain areas due to obvious racism. Of course the simple explanation is that more police officers are patrolling black neighborhoods due to high violent crime rates, meaning marijuana users are more likely to be caught in those areas. While no one denies the obvious over-the-top narrative pushed by the government during the reefer-madness era, the notion that marijuana arrests are solely the result of racism is disproven by the facts.

Twitter users were quick to criticize the story for what they felt was yet another non-issue. You damage your credibility and alienate your readers. Alexhalperin What ever you have been smoking to convince you that this was even remotely a good article, I want some. Quite possibly the stupidest thing I’ve read all day.

Listology

About a week and a half ago, the server which listology lived on suffered a catastrophic failure. Through a perfect storm of circumstances far too lengthy and tedious to explain, I found myself without an easy backup from which to restore, and my hosting provider found themselves unable to restore my site from the weekly server images that they store every week. They continue to work on that problem, however at this point I don’t have an enormous amount of confidence in their ability to succeed, and I have started to explore other options. I do have a copy of the raw database files that Listology ran on, and I am going to attempt to get these up and running. This could serve to be time consuming, and at the same time I am also hunting for a new hosting provider.

In the meantime, know that I have all your data and lists, and that one way or another we will get them back online. I do not have a timeline, and my work and personal lives are extremely busy right now. And Listology will return as soon as it can.

The Best Comedy Duos on TV Right Now – Flavorwire

After three months of cruel hiatus, Greendale reopens its doors to the best study group in the history of television. There are a lot of things we’ve missed since Dan Harmon, et al, took the piss out of Glee in a typically wonderful Christmas special: Jeff’s arrogance, Dean Pelton’s randomness, Britta’s, well, britta-ing everything she touches. Perhaps what we’ve longed for most is the heartwarmingly dorky, ridiculously culturally literate friendship between Danny Pudi’s Abed and Donald Glover’s Troy. We’re so inspired by the pair that we’ve rounded up the ten greatest comedy duos on TV right now. Let us know who you’d add to the list in the comments.

“Banker tale” End SUB. Russian crazy weed marijuana comedy. Short movie.

Inside the world’s first marijuana farmers market

For one, you enter it not through a parking lot or city street, but through a concrete tunnel with a low ceiling, designed to simulate the underground chambers through which smugglers bring contraband marijuana from northern Mexico to southern California. When you finally emerge, you won’t find heirloom tomatoes, but marijuana. Welcome to Acres Cannabis, the dispensary that is augmented with a 3,000-square-foot pot-farmers market located in Las Vegas, where weed was recently legalized. The market is said to be the first lawful and permanent one of its kind launched for sales of recreational ganja. On its April 20 opening night, the market – which features a DJ booth, graffiti wall, nine merchants and Cadillac trunks that cheekily serve as weed display cases – was packed with grass-lovers who went straight to their sources with questions about growing techniques, potency and the combining of various strains.

Acres cofounder and CEO John Mueller hopes the market will help customers figure out what types of pot they like. On opening night, the breadth of the selection was, well, intoxicating. Items for sale included oils, edibles and riffs on the old-fashioned smokable stuff – including pre-rolled joints coated with hash oil. Mueller invites competing dispensaries that cultivate their own weed to set up booths and sell their product at his market.

Delaware Could Clear Past Minor Marijuana Convictions From Records – Cannabistical: of or concerning cannabis.

Since 2017, Delaware has been cautiously working toward a future with legal adult-use cannabis and a regulated market. A new marijuana bill introduced in the General Assembly Wednesday is aiming at correcting the wrongs of the past. Delaware decriminalized cannabis possession up to an ounce in 2015. If their legislation passes, Delaware could clear past minor marijuana convictions from records for more than 1,000 people. While still a significant reform, it often doesn’t address prior marijuana convictions and does little to reduce illicit sales.

Following a yearlong battle over legalizing and regulating cannabis, the Delaware Adult Use Cannabis Task Force recently released its final report. So with legalization in limbo, pro-cannabis lawmakers introduced a bill to expunge the criminal record of anyone with a minor marijuana conviction, which means that for more than 1,000 people, Delaware could clear past minor marijuana convictions from records. Arguments in favor of decriminalization rightly center the criminal justice component of reforming marijuana laws. Minor marijuana convictions can come with major, long-term consequences. Clearing such convictions from someone’s record can significantly improve their life prospects.

Adult-use cannabis legalization enjoys support among the majority of Delaware residents. While the future of legal weed there is still unclear, clearing prior marijuana convictions is a major step toward progressive criminal justice reform.

YG Releases Official Statement Regarding G-Dragon’s Marijuana Incident

YG Entertainment released an official statement regarding G-Dragon’s having been caught smoking marijuana. The official statement contains the story in the perspective of YG Entertainment and G-Dragon. The Korean public had several questions of why G-Dragon’s punishment was so lenient. Last July, G-Dragon received investigation by the prosecutor’s office due to suspicion of smoking marijuana. G-Dragon confidently accepted the investigation because he had not smoked marijuana and went through with his schedule as usual.

When he heard the news that his hair drug test came out as positive, he was shocked because he had not smoked marijuana before. While trying to find the reason how such a result would occur, he remembered a memory from his Japanese tour in May. He was at a party with several Japanese representatives that visited his concert. During the party, a Japanese individual that is believed to be a fan greeted G-Dragon and offered him a cigarette. G-Dragon probably forgot that incident because he did not consider it significant.

The prosecutor’s office decided not to indict G-Dragon for two reasons. The first reason was because his test result was a weak positive, and the second was that G-Dragon had not deliberately smoked marijuana. There weren’t any other legal penalties for this incident, we believe that the guilt and responsibility that G-Dragon and YG Entertainment has to bear is heavier than any legal penalty.

Tom Papa – The Deer Hunter – This Is Not Happening – Uncensored

Super High Me Movie

This was the official site for Doug Benson’s Super High Me. In the 2007 documentary film, comedian Doug Benson documents not smoking pot for 30 days and then smoking pot for 30 days in a row. Doug Benson is an American comedian who has appeared on Comedy Central Presents, Best Week Ever, and most recently as a contestant on Last Comic Standing. Everything Doug Benson did in Super High Me is legal in California. Super High Me features comedian Doug Benson and explores the current situation with medical marijuana in California and the United States, specifically focusing on the conflict between federal and state law and the explosive growth in medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles over the past two years.

Comedian Doug Benson smokes marijuana for 30 days to see what, if any, the harmful effects of habitual cannabis use are. For a fellow who has made a name for himself as a stoner comedian, taking pot away from Benson is like snatching a teddy bear out of a child’s grasp. How Benson fits into the argument is left to the imagination, since his purpose in the film is to get high as a kite and travel. 30 days of constant weed inhalation and digestion leaves Benson in a quite a smiley fog. The film’s comedy, both in Benson’s act and in his daily life, relies heavily on one’s appreciation for pot humor. Doug Benson, a stand-up comic you may know from VH1, got the idea to make a documentary about himself smoking weed for 30 days.

Doug Benson is funny as are his friends who appear and even the studies are funny. Benson is likable and wholesome, and the movie is pleasant and funny.

As one of the state’s chief public opponents of legal weed, Morgan has been quoted in publications like the LA Times, and one of the groups with which he is associated, the Coalition for a Drug Free California, is occasionally newsworthy. According to Reason, he’s probably one of the most important people in the state’s marijuana legalization resistance movement in 2016-a year in which the movement may capitulate. In an article for the Times-Herald, Morgan laid out all the details of his crusade against pot. For a guy who insists he does not smoke weed … Morgan really seems like he came up with most of his ideas hunched over a bong at 2:00 a.m., muttering about black helicopters.

It’d be hard to debunk every paranoid idea to flow out of Morgan’s mouth, but a few quick pointers. Serious marijuana dependence is relatively rare, and tends to be not as serious as use of other drugs. Attempting to confirm Morgan’s theory, Reason found evidence of just six weed-smoking shooters in 23 mass shootings since 2011. ISIS propaganda sometimes features ISIS fighters burning marijuana fields. Lest you leave with the impression Morgan is some kind of joke – he’s not.

To put it another way, people like Morgan might not be winning the public debate over marijuana, but they are propping up a very real national status quo of police slamming people in jail for smoking a joint. Morgan is not that much of an anomaly among the ignominious company of many historical prohibitionists. That’s not particularly funny and neither is a guy like Roger Morgan.

Medical marijuana RX?

A new medical guideline suggests family doctors should think twice before prescribing medical marijuana to their patients. The Simplified Guideline for Prescribing Medical Cannabinoids in Primary Care, published Thursday in the medical journal Canadian Family Physician, says there is limited evidence to support the reported benefits of medical marijuana for many conditions. It adds that any benefit could be balanced or even outweighed by the potential harm. The guideline was created by a committee of 10 researchers after an in-depth review of clinical trials. It was peer reviewed by 40 others, including doctors, pharmacists, nurses and patients.

They looked at medical marijuana for treatment of pain, muscle tightness and stiffness, and nausea and vomiting, as well as at its side effects. The committee found acceptable research for use of medical marijuana for some conditions including nerve pain, palliative cancer pain, muscle stiffness related to multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury, and nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy. The researchers suggested pharmaceuticals derived from cannabis be tried before smoked marijuana to control dosage. The committee also found that side effects – including sedation, dizziness and confusion – were common and consistent. Jonathan Zaid, the executive director of patient advocacy group Canadians for Fair Access to Medical Marijuana, said it’s always good to have a review of the research.

He suggested medical cannabis is working for more than 200,000 Canadians.

How This E-Cig Franchise Is Moving Into Marijuana

In the series finale of the Showtime comedy Weeds, marijuana is legalized, and housewife-turned-drug dealer Nancy Botwin builds a 50-unit chain of pot cafes that she eventually sells to Starbucks. With legalization in Colorado and Washington in full swing, and with referendums passed in Alaska, Oregon and Washington, D.C., Paul is prepping his 20-unit, Tulsa, Okla.-based e-cigarette franchise to get ahead of the game in case pot laws fall across the country. The non-narcotic hemp base can be mixed evenly with high-strength cannabis oil. We aren’t actually selling marijuana or cannabis oil. Instead, if a franchisee lives in a state where marijuana is legal, we license them the M-System technology and our know-how.

We’ll help them find wholesalers and set up those types of relationships where they can produce their own cannabis oils. If someone buys a Palm Beach Vapors shop, they are buying an e-cigarette business. If they want to add marijuana if it becomes legal in their area, they can, but they won’t be required to. Yes! In the e-cigarette market today, the bad guy in the juice is the propylene glycol.

I think there will be a marriage of the e-cigarette and marijuana industries in the near future, and we want to be in the center for that merge. I think the barriers will continue to fall, and marijuana will be a big part of the next presidential election. If there’s some sort of crackdown, we will still survive as an e-cigarette franchise.

Marijuana at the movies

Don’t look to Hollywood history for a nuanced depiction of the average marijuana user. Seth Rogen reigns as the current king of stoner comedies, though he owes his success to the trails blazed by Cheech & Chong, Bill & Ted, Harold & Kumar, and those poor, poor teenagers infected with reefer madness generations ago. Memorable marijuana use in cinema rarely crosses into heavy drama. Dopeheads on film may act, well, dopey, but many users and non-users alike remember them because they’re bigger than life, and their humor transcends the stoner stereotype. In many ways, the expanded legalization of marijuana and ease of access may fly in the face of weed’s anti-establishment roots, meaning the golden age of ‘stoner comedies’ may actually be waning.

Rogen still makes room for pot in most of his movies, but the stories themselves are becoming more about growing up and being responsible Marijuana still matters, just not as much as, say, taking care of family. Writer/director Kevin Smith created a memorable duo of stoner heroes: Jay and Silent Bob. While the director now proudly touts his own regular marijuana use, the movies lack the punch and basic cohesiveness of even his laziest Jay and Bob bits. Rogen’s cannabis indoctrination of Hollywood works mostly because the comedian manages to make consistent films. Rogen may be the figurehead of the stoner film genre, but he’s ushering in an era where the genre fits more comfortably in the broader comedic landscape.

As marijuana continues its rise to the mainstream, there may be less need for lovable, anti-establishment stoner heroes. So long as the Dude abides, movies will always welcome them for the occasional shenanigans.

Thoughts From A Daily Marijuana Smoker

People have been turning to marijuana throughout history for a number of different reasons. Despite legalization efforts and the mainstreaming of marijuana use in America, there is still a prevalent negative perception of its users. The typical stoner stereotypes of lazy, shiftless, irresponsible individuals immediately come to mind for many people, with others viewing users as drug addicts and even as criminals. Proponents are fighting back against this unfair perception citing the very beneficial aspects of marijuana especially when compared to substances like alcohol. Despite how destructive it can be, most people won’t bat an eye if they hear that someone drinks every day to calm down and relax.

If the same person said that they smoked marijuana everyday for the same reasons, like the essay’s author confesses that they do, it could prove to be both socially and professionally problematic. Be sure to follow the link below for the author’s full essay on marijuana’s positive effects on their life! I moved to Northern California when I was 18 and was plunged into the world of marijuana. I have dealt with anxiety and OCD for most of my life, and I found it really quelled any stresses I was managing. In her learnings, she had encountered a lot of studies that had shown weed in moderate amounts was helping people sleep better, reduce anxiety, and even have better sex.

I decided to try smoking a bit of weed before bed, and within days, it completely transformed my life. Before I started smoking weed, I would sometimes lie in bed until 3 a.m. just going over everything I had to do the next day and not getting any rest.

Why Jeff Sessions Hates Marijuana

More marijuana education

From growing the perfect crop to marketing within restrictive rules, Canadian colleges and universities are cultivating courses for those wanting to work in the booming marijuana industry. Kwantlen Polytechnic University started offering online courses in cannabis production, marketing and financing about three years ago after officials at the British Columbia school realized there was a need for training and education around medicinal marijuana, said David Purcell, the university’s director of emerging business. About 1,200 people have taken the classes, most of whom are between 25 and 40 years old and were working full-time in another industry, he said. The university isn’t alone in offering marijuana-related courses. Niagara College is working on a certificate in marijuana production and the New Brunswick Community College is already teaching cultivation.

There’s been a void in the educational marketplace when it comes to training specifically for the burgeoning marijuana market, said Debbie Johnston, dean of the school of continuing education at Durham College in Oshawa, Ont. Durham College recently began offering a two-day course that provides an introduction to all things marijuana. Marijuana companies are looking for professionals, like accountants or business managers, who have industry-specific knowledge, from the terminology and history of the industry to the regulatory framework and basics of cannabis plants, Johnston added. Alison McMahon runs Cannabis at Work, a recruiting agency for marijuana companies, and said completing cannabis courses can help candidates stand out from the crowd. There aren’t a lot of job seekers with cannabis education on their resumes, McMahon noted, but that’s likely to change as both the industry and educational offerings grow.

Kwantlen and Durham College are both planning to expand the variety of marijuana classes on offer. A course teaching responsible retail sales, safe handling and strain identification will soon be offered through Kwantlen, and the school is also working on a cultivation course that will see students go out and work with cannabis plants at licensed production facilities, Purcell said.

marshydro LED grow light, grow tent,Hydroponic,Grow light

For over 9 years led grow light manufacture experience, we have provided a lot OEM service to different brands, worked with a lot indoor growers, universities, specialist growers, commercial growers and research labs. Today, we have got enough experience on LED grow light, so we decided to make our own products, own brand-Marshydro to provide service to different growers directly. We have saw a lot low quality LED grow lights are using unknown LEDs or Epistar LEDs and got very high failure in short time, LEDs burnt out or lenses got melt very fast. It is really embarrassing to ask warranty during grow. We decided to make a safe, high quality, low heat, low power consumption, high penetration, high yield , high power, truly full-spectrum LED grow light, so our first series LED grow light –Mars hydro led grow light series is comprised of the two top brand LEDs,CREE and OSRAM.We are different from other brands also, they prefer using double or triple lenses to increase lumens, PAR, PPF or PPFD at one point to tell a lie, while we avoid using lens to increase the output of our LED grow light and truly increase the lumens , PAR ,PPF and PPFD in the coverage area.

We want to make things simple and lower the failure of Mars hydro led grow light series, we did not build unnecessary complex remote control program in , we only put two modes–veg&bloom on the light for flexible use. We are on the boat of growers, so we are thinking what growers are thinking. Led grow light is a product built with our confidence, experience and growers expectation. With Mars hydro series, We considered five factors: fabric quality, reflective rate, pole quality, lighting leaking and flexible use, especially the light leaking, we gathered a lot information from growers and competitors and we know how important to avoid light leaking. We do not want your plants can not sleep well and the grow tent drop down to damage your plants.

For your health, we will never and ever use any bad smell and toxic fabric to make our grow tents. Mars Hydro is a new brand but we are not newer in indoor growing , we are professional on business, service ,products, growing, etc.

Studies Link Legal Marijuana With Fewer Opioid Prescriptions « CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

Over-prescribing is considered a key factor in the opioid epidemic. One looked at trends in opioid prescribing under Medicaid, which covers low-income adults, between 2011 and 2016.

Results showed that laws that let people use marijuana to treat specific medical conditions were associated with about a 6 percent lower rate of opioid prescribing for pain.

Funny marijuana comedy variety show Ep34Part2

marijuana, hemp, and cannabis news

Compared with older Americans 30 years ago, Americans age 50 to 59 and 60 and older today are a remarkable 20 times more likely to use marijuana. Former Speaker of the House John Boehner recently joined the board of a cannabis company, and last week on semi-official marijuana holiday April 20, certified cool dude Chuck Schumer, the leader of Democrats in the Senate, announced that he will soon be introducing legislation to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level. Late last week, in a spare moment between attacking former FBI Director James Comey and bombing Syria, President Trump reportedly told Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado that he supports his states recreational marijuana law. The primary drivers of this trend include the fact that women and older consumers are saying they intend to use more marijuana when it is legal; a focus on health that cannabis fits into; and marijuana becoming legalized in states that already have high levels of wine consumption.

On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders is signing on as a co-sponsor of the Marijuana Justice Act, introduced last year by Sen. Cory Booker. Boehners endorsement, after saying nine years ago he was unalterably opposed to legalization, could be considered a watershed event: Marijuana has gone mainstream.

For marketing agencies, marijuana dispensaries and cannabis brands, advertising the pot brings its own hurdles. The states licensing program encourages legal marijuana growers to set up shop where the new jobs are needed most, in perennially poor communities. While marijuana remains a banned substance under federal law, nine states including Washington, Nevada, Oregon and Colorado have legalized consumption and production within their borders. Less than 1% of the states 68,150 marijuana cultivators had obtained licenses as of last month, according to a recent report by the California Growers Association. The policy, which has been federal law since 2014, bars the U.S.

Department of Justice from spending money to interfere with the implementation of state medical marijuana laws. Craker, Doblin likes to say, is the perfect flag bearer for the cause of medical marijuana productionnot remotely controversial and thus the ideal partner in a long and frustrating effort to loosen the Drug Enforcement Administrations chokehold on cannabis research.

Legal marijuana may lead to influx of poison control calls

BOSTON – Poison control officials in Massachusetts are gearing up for an expected spike in calls about accidental exposure to marijuana once legal sales of the substance begin on July 1. That expectation is based on the experiences of states that legalized marijuana previously and have years of data on calls to poison control centers. Bhutta said poison control centers in Colorado saw a 108 percent increase in calls related to marijuana exposure for people of all ages between 2012 and 2015. There was a 206 percent increase during the same time period in calls related to marijuana exposure among people eight years old or younger, he said. In Washington, Bhutta said, call volumes increased an average of 58 percent at poison control centers between 2012 and 2015.

A 2016 study published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics and conducted by a doctor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus found that the average rate of marijuana-related visits to the children’s hospital increased from 1.2 incidents per 100,000 children two years prior to marijuana legalization to 2.3 incidents per 100,000 children two years after legalization. Pediatric marijuana cases at regional poison control centers in Colorado increased more than five-fold from nine in 2009 to 47 in 2015, the study found. During that time, Colorado saw an average 34 percent increase in regional poison control cases per year compared to a 19 percent increase in the rest of the United States. Bhutta said marijuana exposure calls to Colorado poison control centers appear to be on the decline since 2015. Colorado, which began legal marijuana sales in 2014, has updated its regulations around packaging and marketing after the first couple of years of legal marijuana revealed issues.

Since 2015 the Centennial State has required marijuana products to be sold in childproof packaging and in 2016 banned edible marijuana products in the shape of humans, animals or fruits, which had made them attractive to children. CCC Chairman Steven Hoffman said Tuesday the commission was mindful of the issues other states have had with exposure of marijuana products to children as it crafted the rules for Massachusetts.

The Conservative Case For Legalizing Marijuana

Marijuana legalization is an issue that unites people across the political aisle. Regardless of whether one accepts the individual-liberty case for legalizing marijuana, the consequentialist case is convincing. Marijuana is a drug, as abusable as any intoxicant is, and its long-term use is in some people associated with undesirable effects. A great many people will avoid being convicted of crimes for a relatively benign recreational indulgence – and those criminal convictions often have much more severe long-term consequences on pot-smokers’ lives than marijuana does. Perhaps most important, the legalization of marijuana in Colorado – and the push for its legalization elsewhere – is a sign that Americans still recognize some limitations on the reach of the state and its stable of nannies-in-arms.

To a large degree, this is due to the influence of William F. Buckley Jr. himself, who seemed to have held a largely libertarian view on the issue of marijuana use and was rumored to have sailed out beyond the territorial limits of the United States on at least one occasion to give smoking marijuana a try. Although there is a perfectly respectable case against using marijuana, the penalties imposed on those who reject that case, or who give way to weakness of resolution, are very difficult to defend. Most transgressors caught using marijuana aren’t packed away to jail, but some are, and in Alabama, if you are convicted three times of marijuana possession, they’ll lock you up for 15 years to life.

Professor Ethan Nadelmann, of the Drug Policy Alliance, writing in National Review, estimates at 100,000 the number of Americans currently behind bars for one or another marijuana offense. Critics of reform do make a pretty plausible case when they say that whatever is said about using marijuana only for medical relief masks what the advocates are really after, which is legal marijuana for whoever wants it. An estimated 100 million Americans have smoked marijuana at least once, the great majority, abandoning its use after a few highs. A Boston commentator observed years ago that it is easier for an 18-year old to get marijuana in Cambridge than to get beer.
