Police Bust Gift Wrapped Marijuana Delivery

I guess we can expect more of these marijuana Holiday shenanigans. Just a few days ago police in Ohio busted two men with a car full of gift-wrapped weed – I guess they forget to make that shit airtight, the police smelled it as soon as they approached the car. Now police in Colonie, Colorado have a similar story to tell. Colonie police were tipped off by the USPS that a package headed for the Desmond Hotel had a very specific odor coming from it that usually emanates from a green leafy, plant, no not mistletoe – WEED. After getting that tip it was like shooting fish in a barrel for the police.

They set up a sting at the hotel and when the David Malchow checked in and went to claim his parcel the cops pounced and busted him. In the package police found several smaller packages of gift-wrapped marijuana. Now I have no idea why someone either living in Colorado or visiting Colorado would need to have weed sent through the mail when they could just head to any of the numerous dispensaries in the area. All in all the bust netted about 17 pounds of weed, and one really, really unhappy guy.

SPARC: The Apple Store of Marijuana Shops

This recently opened San Francisco dispensary combines the sleekness of an Apple store with the quality strains of marijuana that Californians have come to expect from the corner pot shop. The nonprofit is an outgrowth of the Cannabis Collective, an organization that provides reasonably priced marijuana to low-income patients with chronic disease. SPARC offers pot at a deep discount compared to other dispensaries-$28 for an eighth of the daily special, and $35 an eighth for many other strains. SFist reports that SPARC emblazons its menu and price guide on LCD screens, offers pot in glass apothecary jars with custom labels, and shows off its wares in wood and glass cases. From the outside, SPARC might even be mistaken for an art gallery.

Like your local Apple store, SPARC offers classes, including acupressure and self-healing, Ayurvedic cooking, art therapy, and calligraphy. It’s the kind of place that could act as a blueprint for other dispensaries if marijuana ever becomes fully legalized-modern, sterile, and comfortable for the business set.

Seeing green: Celebrities selling marijuana

Hollywood has long been addicted to a good marijuana joke. Now that pot is legal for recreational use in nine states, some celebrities are laughing all the way to the bank. Including a nine-month stint in prison in 2003 for selling glass bongs on the internet. Now he’s legit – selling a line of organically-grown cannabis called Chong’s Choice. As the face of the brand, well, he has to make sure it’s good.

Chong’s Choice is for sale in six states, and as with any other product, name recognition matters. From fashion to fragrance, to beverages both hard and soft, celebrity sells. With marijuana sales expected to reach $8-10 billion by the end of this year, and projected to double to $20 billion by 2022, more celebs are investing money and lending their names to get a foothold in this growing market. It was all around on the black market for many decades. A lot of people were shocked by how fast it materialized.

He says celebrities such as Chong, Willie Nelson, Snoop Dog and even Whoopi Goldberg are helping marijuana go mainstream.

Bill Hicks – Mandatory Marijuana

Study: Millions Of Americans Can Buy Marijuana Online, And The Demand Has Never Been Higher

From 2005 to 2017 marijuana shopping searches nearly tripled. A new study, led by San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health associate research professor John W. Ayers, demonstrates how easy it is for Americans to purchase marijuana online. Searches were also geotagged by state, and the study analyzed search activity in almost every American State. Study co-author, Mark Dredze, told Science Daily the following.

From 2005 to 2017, marijuana shopping searches in the United States nearly tripled, peaking at 2.4 million searches in June 2017. The search volume was highest in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada. The overall annual growth-rate for marijuana shopping searches, researchers found, was significantly positive since 2005, in all studied states, bar Alabama and Mississippi. This, authors assert, suggests a growing demand across the nation. Forty-one percent of all monitored search results linked to retailers selling marijuana.

Retailers occupied 50 percent of the first page of Google search results. For some searches, all links on the first page of Google were pointing to online marijuana retailers. State and local tax revenue – some of which could be used to fund public health programs – could be negatively impacted.

Chilean Fisherman Finds an “Underwater Field of Marijuana”?

I’m no botanist, but unless a field of marijuana was insulated by a sand bar and within a tent, I highly doubt marijuana could grow underwater because plants need sun to grow. Considering seaweed and other ocean things grow in the water, perhaps weed growing in the bottom of ocean is just as feasible as Finding Nemo. The fisherman is believed to have been fishing for turbot when he caught unidentified vegetation in his net, which was later identified by marine biologists at the Chilean Aquaculture Centre as a strain of cannabis sativa. The strain has been affectionately named ‘Amigo de pescador’ by locals, which roughly translates to Fisherman’s Friend in English. Research suggests that a naturally occurring genetic defect in the plant, coupled with small hydrothermal vents in the proximity and epipelagic location, have created serendipitous growing conditions that you wouldn’t find anywhere in nature and would be difficult to reproduce artificially.

I have no idea what that means or if it’s really possible, but it sounds cool and scientific. I’m assured by my more familiar peers that the levels of THC aren’t particularly high but the plants do produce female flowers. So unless he hides from the internet, this is likely a fake.

Lawmakers In Illinois Embrace Medical Marijuana As An Opioid Alternative

A painkiller prescription could become a ticket for medical marijuana in Illinois. Lawmakers there passed a bill making anyone with a prescription for opioids eligible for its medical cannabis program. With this move, Illinois joins a growing number of states turning to legal cannabis in the fight against painkiller addiction. The Alternatives to Opioids Act would allow millions of patients to apply for temporary access to the state’s existing medical cannabis pilot program. The bill, which passed on May 31st, is now awaiting Republican Gov.

Bruce Rauner’s signature. Though the bill has bipartisan support, marijuana advocates have some doubts whether he’ll sign it, given his past opposition to medical cannabis. Lawmakers in several states have taken action to initiate or expand their medical marijuana programs in light of the opioid crisis. Among them, in Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a law adding PTSD and intractable pain to the list of conditions covered in its medical marijuana program in May.

Gov. Phil Murphy Orders Review Of NJ’s Medical Marijuana Program « CBS New York

Murphy faulted the administration of Republican former Gov. Chris Christie for making it difficult for residents to use the state’s program, which has 15,000 enrollees. Other similar-sized states have hundreds of thousands of patients in their programs. New Jersey is one of 29 states with a medical marijuana program. The program was enacted shortly before Christie, who opposed making the drug more widely available, took office in 2010.

Seven-year-old Jake Honig passed away on Sunday after a five-year battle with cancer. His mom, dad, and sister made the trip from Howell to Trenton Tuesday, to be there when the governor signed the executive order. The family says the marijuana in oil form, which they made in their kitchen since November, made all the difference in Jake’s quality of life. They say within 20 minutes of taking the medicine on his gums or as a suppository, his symptoms would disappear. The order comes after Murphy also promised to legalize marijuana for recreational use in New Jersey.

Groups opposed to recreational legalization tell CBS2’s Jessica Layton that the state is right to explore the expansion of the medicinal program. Murphy’s order directs the state Department of Health and the board of medical examiners to review the state’s program, with a focus on expanding access. The order calls for the review to be done within 60 days.

Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Initiative Being Voted On Next Week – Cannabistical: of or concerning cannabis.

Next week, on June 26, an initiative to legalize medical marijuana will be up for a vote in Oklahoma. State Question 788, to legalize medical cannabis, will be voted on June 26 in Oklahoma. Put forth by the nonprofit Oklahomans for Health, the initiative would allow those with a doctor recommendation to legally possess and use medical cannabis and cannabis products. A state-licensed system of dispensaries would be authorized to sell the plant to qualified patients. Under the initiative patients would be allowed to purchase and possess up to three ounces of cannabis, and up to 72 ounces of cannabis-infused products such as edibles and topicals.

Obtaining a state-issued medical marijuana license would require a board-certified physician’s signature. People with licenses would be permitted to possess up to 3 ounces of marijuana on their person and 8 ounces of marijuana in their residence. A 7 percent tax would be levied on marijuana sales, with revenue being allocated to administrative costs, education, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Licenses would be required to operate dispensaries, commercial growing operations, and processing operations. Municipalities would be prohibited from restricting zoning laws to prevent marijuana dispensaries.

Surgeon General Skeptical of Medical Marijuana as Opioid Alternative – Cannabistical: of or concerning cannabis.

Surgeon General Jerome Adams said today that he is skeptical that medical marijuana is an acceptable alternative to opioids. Adams was a guest at the Examining Opioids forum hosted by The Washington Examiner in Washington, D.C. During an interview, he said that researchers have found that smoking marijuana can be harmful to young people. Because of the risks involved, Adams said he could not recommend the use of marijuana as medication. The Surgeon General did acknowledge that researchers should continue to study medicinal cannabis.

Adams prefaced his comments by detailing the somber toll of the nation’s current opioid crisis. In 2016, synthetic opioids caused more than 19,000 overdose deaths. Approximately 37 percent of the heroin-related deaths in 2016 also involved synthetic opioids. Adams also talked about some successes in the opioid crisis including emergency remedies and evidence-based intervention. One person he talked about is a man named Jonathan, who lives in Rhode Island.

Adams also had an answer for those who believe that treatments like Naloxone are not good policy. Adams also said he did not support some progressive harm reduction efforts such as supervised injection sites. The Surgeon General said the public awareness is the first step in ending the opioid crisis and had a stern warning for Americans.

San Francisco DA to erase marijuana convictions going back decades

Great news for potheads, at least those in – you knew it – San Francisco. The district attorney there, a man named George Gascon, has decided he is going to apply California’s marijuana legalization law retroactively. That means thousands of misdemeanor and felony marijuana convictions going back for decades will be erased or reduced. Back in November of 2016, California voters okayed the use of recreational marijuana for those 21 and older and possession up to one ounce. The measure also permits those with previous marijuana convictions that would have been no crime at all under the new law, or a lesser charge, to petition courts to dismiss their old cases.

Gascon noted that such petitions involve time and attorney fees, so he’s going to wipe them all out en masse. This will erase the criminal records of many, which could help in job-seeking. He was the prosecutor in the murder trial of Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, the oft-deported, illegal immigrant accused of murdering Kate Steinle. The man was acquitted of both murder and manslaughter. Political observers in San Francisco say Gascon’s reelection next year is now uncertain, not because he botched the trial and the man got off scot-free.

Because Gascon over-charged the man and should have left off the murder charge.

Death Prophecy | Marijuana Prophet | Pillow Talk TV comedy web series

A: Licensed medical marijuana dispensaries that have state and local approval can start selling their products as recreational starting Saturday. In February, the city enacted a six-month moratorium on recreational marijuana licenses, meaning the five medical dispensaries within Henderson’s city limits will have to wait a while longer before joining the market. A: Only adults 21 and older and medical marijuana cardholders can purchase marijuana. A: There is no difference between medical and recreational marijuana in Nevada. Recreational marijuana is subject to a 10 percent special sales tax, with those revenues rebuilding the state’s rainy day fund.

A: You can carry up to an ounce of marijuana and ounce of concentrate, and that’s the same amount you’ll legally be able to buy. Edibles tend to produce a longer and stronger high than smoked marijuana, and new packaging laws in Nevada reflect that potency. Marijuana use is banned on the Strip and on all gaming properties in the state. Tourists can’t smoke marijuana in hotel rooms or anywhere on resorts’ grounds. Not even passengers can smoke or consume marijuana in a vehicle under Nevada law.

A: A judge ruled that liquor distributors should have exclusive rights to transport marijuana from cultivation facilities to dispensaries. For reference, an ounce of dried marijuana flower produces about 40 to 60 cigarettes, depending on your rolling preference.

Is Smoking Weed Around Dogs Dangerous?

It started when I wrote a few blog posts about what to do if your dog breaks into a stash of marijuana. At around the same time, I also composed a comprehensive website with 100 articles on dog and cat diseases, syndromes and treatments. I talk about canine marijuana intoxication in a straightforward and nonjudgemental way; this has unfortunately led some folks to the misconception that I endorse getting dogs stoned. The good news is that, unless an animal is confined in a room with extreme amounts of smoke, inhaling secondhand marijuana smoke is not likely to lead to intoxication. The bigger concern here is the smoke itself.

Dogs have exquisitely sensitive lungs, and smoke can damage them. If the dog is around smoking – whether that’s weed or cigarettes – every day, his respiratory function can be compromised. On the other hand, if the person doing the smoking does not go overboard, doesn’t smoke every day and keeps a window open while smoking, it is not likely that much harm will come to the dog – from the smoke at least. Bear in mind that although I’ve never seen a dog die from marijuana intoxication, I have seen dogs die as a direct result of their owners getting stoned. The owner’s boyfriend got stoned and decided to hang out on his apartment building’s roof with the dog.

Remember that situations involving dogs and marijuana can end poorly. Please don’t smoke anything around your dog.

Bill de Blasio announces new NYC marijuana enforcement policy

Starting on September 1, a new marijuana enforcement policy will go into effect in New York City. Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner James O’Neill announced on Tuesday that the NYPD will issue summonses rather than arrest most New Yorkers caught smoking weed in public. Exceptions, as CBS reports, would include people on parole or probation, those with existing criminal warrants or a recent documented history of violence, people without identification, and those whose smoking constitutes a public safety risk, like people smoking behind the wheel of a car. De Blasio called for the change in policy in May as part of taking steps towards the likely eventual legalization of marijuana in the city, and in reaction to data around the arrest rates of people of color for marijuana charges in white vs minority neighborhoods. He says he expects to reduce arrests by 10,000 per year as a result.

Health Commissioner Howard Zucker says a report recommending the legalization of marijuana in the state is nearing completion. If the governor backs the report’s recommendation, it would complete an extraordinary shift for the Democrat. It also would put him on the same page as Cynthia Nixon, the actress and activist who is challenging Cuomo for the Democratic nomination from the political left. It would align New York with a growing number of states that have legalized marijuana.

Families Coping With Autism Claim Medical Marijuana Is Lifesaver « CBS Denver

DENVER- A bill has passed a Colorado House committee that would legalize the use of medical marijuana for those with autism. With a quick spray,10-year-old Vincent takes his medical marijuana. A video posted by the group Mothers Advocating Medical Marijuana for Autism shows a girl named Kara hitting her head repeatedly against a car seat. Once she is given the marijuana she appears much calmer. So too with Vincent, who legally qualifies for medical marijuana now in Colorado because of the seizures he suffers from epilepsy.

He was at the state Capitol with others on behalf of a bill that would make marijuana legal for all who have autism. The Walkers moved to Colorado from Texas to take advantage of medical marijuana. Scott Walker is a big advocate of the push to legalize medical pot for autism. Vincent’s cannabis includes a small amount of the psychoactive compound THC. They say his seizures are gone.

Scott said Vincent was saying phrases he never said in Texas. Given what we know about the harmful effects of marijuana use on brain development, sanctioning the use of medical marijuana for autism and autism spectrum disorders could be particularly harmful to children. Finally, the constitution explicitly directs rule-making authority to the department and the Board of Health to determine what medical conditions are appropriate for medical marijuana treatment.

Roseanne’s Marijuana Episode Part 3

Report: Legal marijuana boosts government revenue

A new report finds that legalizing and taxing marijuana boosts revenue for state and local governments, but not by much. The credit rating agency Moody’s Investor Service says in a study released Tuesday that legalizing recreational use of marijuana brings governments more money than it costs to regulate it. Despite high taxes on the legal sales of the drug, the revenue accounts for a small portion of government budgets. In Colorado, the first state to legalize recreational use, a marijuana tax brings in the equivalent of about 2 percent of the state budget. In Washington state, gross revenue from marijuana legalization equaled 1.2 percent of general fund revenue in the 2015-17 state budget.

Most of the states that have legalized marijuana earmark the revenue for law enforcement, drug treatment and other specific programs, which doesn’t help the states’ financial flexibility. Moody’s described the revenue effect as minimal on local governments in states with legalized pot. Creating revenue for the state is one argument proponents use for legalization in New Jersey. Gov. Phil Murphy, who supports the effort, is planning on having an additional $60 million in taxes from legalized marijuana in the next fiscal year.

Twenty-nine states now allow marijuana for either medicinal or recreational uses, and the business is growing quickly. Illegal marijuana sales are estimated at $40 billion. Many employers across the country are quietly taking what once would have been a radical step: They’re dropping marijuana from the drug tests they require of prospective employees.

Legalization of Marijuana Essay examples

Legalization of Marijuana Purpose: The reason why I am up here is to talk about the legalization of Marijuana. Thesis: Although you may all think that I am here to talk about the legalization of marijuana in the positive way, I am not. A. Hello fellow classmates, my name is Ivan and I am here to talk about the legalization of marijuana as it continues to grow as important controversial issue in the United States. C.

As a person that has been around the use of marijuana and have read several articles throughout my life, I believe that I have sufficient knowledge on weed. Let’s be honest here, our government as a whole is corrupt, and adding on to the big businesses such as Monsanto and Philip Morris, marijuana wouldn’t be naturally grown. II. Body.A. Weed will not be the same if big business gets a hold of the crop.

The way marijuana is grown would be absolutely different. Furthermore on if a big business got rights to the crop; the whole structure of marijuana growth would be different. B. Raise your hand if you’ve ever smoked weed. My point is, if marijuana is legalized, America would lose its place in the world.

According to all my friends that use marijuana, there really isn’t anything they do productive unless they show up to class or work high. I have evaluated my friends use of marijuana over the past couple years of my life and the main things they do on this drug is eat, smoke more weed, watch a movie, pass out on the couch after watching a movie.

‘Disjointed’ Review: Kathy Bates’ Weed-Themed Netflix Comedy

You might have seen that Disjointed stars the great Kathy Bates and airs on Netflix, and assumed that it must be innovative in some way. Don’t be fooled: This is basically a lame CBS sitcom dressed up in hip, streaming-service clothing. Disjointed is a generic workplace sitcom that might as well take place at a health-food store, or a chiropractor’s office. Disjointed’s hacky sitcom format is a poor fit for Bates, who looks uncomfortable throughout, even appearing to read her lines off of cue cards at times. I have no doubt Bates could be hilarious and terrific in the right TV comedy.

Disjointed’s supporting cast is mostly forgettable, because their characters are patched together from sitcom clichés. Across the board, Disjointed is marred by very broad, yell-y acting, with the cast straining to sell woeful jokes that range from tired pothead stereotypes to vulgar double-entendres. With shows like this and Fuller House, Netflix seems to be trying to establish a foothold in the traditional three-camera sitcom game. Disjointed’s failings just underline why the old-fashioned sitcom is a dying art these days. Michael Douglas actually just signed on to star in a new Netflix comedy series produced by Lorre.

Mike, buddy, save yourself a lot of time and heartache: Watch five minutes of Disjointed to get an idea of what you’re in for and then run for the hills. THE TVLINE BOTTOM LINE: Just say no to Netflix’s Disjointed – a strained, dreadfully unfunny sitcom that squanders the talents of Kathy Bates.

Xanax Addiction: The Risks & Side Effects of Xanax Abuse

Xanax is a brand name for the drug alprazolam, one of several in a group of drugs known as benzodiazepines. Xanax is commonly prescribed for the treatment of panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder or social anxiety disorder. Xanax works by boosting the effects of a natural chemical made in the brain called gamma-aminobutyric acid. In 2015, Xanax was the ninth bestselling drug and fifth most prescribed drug in the U.S.3. From 2004-2009, Xanax saw the second largest pharmaceutical increase in production, with rates increasing 148%.

The only drug that saw higher levels of production was oxycodone. As a generic, Xanax is prescribed more than the sleeping pill Ambien and more than the antidepressant Zoloft. The average person with a Xanax addiction takes about 20 to 30 pills every day.3. Long before a person becomes addicted, Xanax use carries a number of risks and dangers. The most serious risk of Xanax abuse is associated with taking it with other drugs and alcohol.

According to two clinical studies, the majority of people who are prescribed Xanax by a medical professional do not develop a substance use disorder. It is fairly common for users to become physically dependent, which equates to an addiction to Xanax. While the severity and incidence of withdrawal symptoms appear to be related to dosage and duration of treatment, people taking Xanax for brief periods at recommended doses have reported withdrawal symptoms including seizures.

DRUGS,MARIJUANA,SMOKING,COMEDY

With so much political and social momentum, it may seem like marijuana is on a roll right now – and it totally is. There’s still one big hurdle to jump: Even if cannabis is legal at the state level, it’s still illegal at the federal level. That tension is making our transition to a new administration even more confusing – and terrifying for marijuana advocates. All of this goes back to the Controlled Substances Act, passed in 1970, explains Amanda Reiman, manager for marijuana law and policy at the Drug Policy Alliance. At the time, President Nixon recommended putting marijuana in schedule 1, the most restrictive level, which indicated that it had no medical use and a high potential for addiction.

Even more confusing than that is that the purview of various aspects of drugs has gone back and forth between federal and state governments. Traditionally, the federal government gets to decide what is and isn’t legal, but how severely we want to punish people for more minor violations of those laws has been up to individual states. So recent marijuana legalization has really blurred those historical dividing lines. Essentially, all of the state marijuana programs – both medical and otherwise – only exist at all because the federal government is allowing them to exist. There’s really no guarantee that the federal government will continue to respect those states’ decisions.

That’s why marijuana advocates are so nervous about the surprises the oncoming Trump presidency may bring – especially the potential confirmation of notoriously anti-marijuana Senator Jeff Sessions as Attorney General. It’s also why we still have to have a disclaimer on all of our marijuana-related articles – even if you’re living in a weed-legal state, that’s not a guarantee that marijuana is actually legal.

The Tommy Lama Comedy Show – Marijuana

“Cooking on High”: What You Need to Know about the Marijuana-Based Cooking Show’s Cast & Plot!

The name of this new Netflix cooking show is pretty much self-explanatory, but without knowing what it’s about, some may not get the clever pun. Cooking on High is a cooking show like Iron Chef or Top Chef, but with one major difference. Here are more facts about Cooking on High, which will premiere on June 22, 2018, only on Netflix! Cooking on High might sound like a peculiar name, but the show is all about being blunt! Hosted by popular YouTuber and comedian Josh Leyva, this au courant cooking show aims to pave the way for a whole new generation of crispy new cooking shows laced with ganja!

With marijuana becoming legal in more and more places, a new style of cooking is taking over. Here are some things you can expect from the show, including facts about Cooking on High’s cast. Marijuana expert and stand-up comedian Ngaio Bealum has some seriously insane knowledge about weed, and he is a cast member on Netflix’s new show! The chefs competing are ready to whip out some cool new dishes to impress the judges, and Bealum is going to guide them about what they might be cooking with. Although everyone is going to be in the rasta mood on the show, don’t forget that it is still a competition after all!

Chefs from across the nation, who are serious in making cannabis a cooking ingredient, are going to make sure they put their best plate forward. While Cooking on High’s judges are getting baked, they have a very critical task of rating the dishes, too! While there may have been shows in the past that have promoted cannabis-based cuisine, Cooking on High is probably going to be a pioneer of its kind. Heather Pasternak: The actress, writer, and comedian has performed stand-up on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and is also known for the movies, Before You and Two Sisters. He is the creator of Highly Seasoned, a show on BREALTV, where viewers can get easy-to-make recipes using ganja to create culinary masterpieces.

Blunt talk: Medical marijuana takes root

Others worry that medical marijuana spells trouble of a different sort and is really just a smoke screen enabling full-blown recreational marijuana legalization to take root. Even as marijuana research continues to proliferate, public attitudes about its use and potential medical applications have undergone a seismic shift. In a 2017 CBS poll, 88 percent of respondents favored approving medical marijuana and 61 percent thought recreational use should be legal. Another study, conducted this year by Yahoo News and The Marist Poll, found that 83 percent of participants supported legalizing medical marijuana and 49 percent favored ending the ban on recreational use. The shift in attitudes toward marijuana and concurrent explosion of opioid abuse have left citizens and policymakers alike scratching their heads over an apparent paradox.

A 2017 study published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence reported a 23 percent decrease in opioid dependence and a 13 percent drop in opioid-related overdoses in states with legal marijuana. Based on his experience, says Parks, he decided to join the fight for legalizing medical marijuana in North Carolina. Asked about the local VA Medical Center’s marijuana policies, public affairs officer Armenthis Lester explained that since the drug is illegal under federal law, VA physicians can neither prescribe nor conduct research with it. Despite its apparent promise, medical marijuana also carries risks. Regardless of where people stand on the issue, most of the folks Xpress spoke with believe legalizing medical marijuana is really only a question of when, not if.

Still, Kight, whose cancer is now in remission, wants more people to know about how helpful marijuana can be for chemotherapy patients. Whether we’re talking about medical marijuana, opioids or any other drug, patients need to do their own research and ask questions about their treatment regimen, says Hall.

This comes with very strict requirements for researchers who want to study CBD, which means that few get to actually do that work. Much of the CBD oil you can currently buy online is actually derived from imported hemp, which also contains CBD in smaller amounts, says Reiman. A 2014 Cochrane review found four clinical trials looking into the antiepileptic effects of CBD. According to the review, all the studies were pretty low-quality, so the review’s authors concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to recommend CBD for the treatment of seizures just yet. By now Epidiolex, a CBD-based oil manufactured by GW Pharmaceuticals, has received orphan drug status for the treatment of Dravet and Lennox-Gastaut syndromes, which both cause severe, treatment-resistant childhood seizures.

They’ve been allowed to give Epidiolex to about 200 people as part of a pilot program. For desperate parents who are already spending upwards of $600 a month buying highly concentrated CBD oil online, this could be a huge improvement. The results of the recent pilot study were promising, and there are now two double-blind Epidiolex trials underway. Because Epidiolex is derived from the marijuana plant, it is still considered a Schedule I drug during the trial phase. While CBD may provide relief for those suffering from seizures, evidence for the compound’s other potential uses is a little more complicated.

Research has shown that patients with inflammatory bowel disease may find relief with medical marijuana, but find the psychoactive effects limiting. A 2012 double-blind, placebo-controlled trial began to do just that, but so far results are inconclusive. Another GW Pharmaceuticals phase-2 trial that examined the treatment of diabetes with marijuana turned out negative – no significant differences between the treatment and control groups.

Westminster looks to ban retail sales of recreational marijuana

WESTMINSTER – After a nonbinding ballot question showed most voters oppose retail sales of recreational marijuana, the Board of Selectmen on Monday told town officials to pursue regulations that prohibit them while limiting cultivation and processing centers to no more than one or two. On Monday, selectmen discussed recreational marijuana regulations at length for the first time publicly since the results of two nonbinding ballot questions released April 24 showed the majority of 704 voters disapprove of nonmedical dispensaries, and cultivation and processing centers. Phil Silverman, an attorney who represents two companies that have sought permits for medical marijuana businesses in Westminster, appeared before selectmen. Silverman said his client Mass Patient Foundation wants to cultivate marijuana for recreational use at its 99 Development Road facility, which spans the Fitchburg-Westminster line. Mass Patient Foundation has begun growing medical marijuana at the portion of its facility located within Fitchburg city limits, Town Planner Stephen Wallace said Tuesday, adding that operations has not commenced on the Westminster side.

The company entered into a community host agreement with the city to begin cultivating and processing recreational marijuana on the Fitchburg side, said Silverman. He urged selectmen to follow suit and allow Mass Patient Foundation to cultivate recreational marijuana in Westminster. On Tuesday, Wallace confirmed that based on Monday night’s meeting selectmen want to prohibit retail sales of recreational marijuana. Some confusion surrounds whether one or two medical marijuana facilities are licensed in Westminster. Another of Silverman’s clients, Trichome Health Corp., last year proposed a medical marijuana dispensary and cultivation center at the Westminster Business Park.

Trichome’s proposal nonetheless received provisional approval from the Department of Public Health, said Silverman. Whether Trichome’s provisional approval counts toward the town’s total tally of medical licenses will be explored by town council, Wallace said.

Robert Schimmel: Medical Marijuana

MarijuanaDoctors.com Airs First Marijuana Television Commercial Ever Shown on a “Major Network”

Securing the airtime for our commercial on a major network was extremely difficult and at the same time, extremely satisfying. The spot began airing in New Jersey and is believed to be the first time that any major television network in the U.S. has allowed a commercial addressing the controversial subject matter and advertising the first ever medical marijuana service. MarijuanaDoctors.com draws this parallel in an attempt to prove the severity of consulting physicians in order to obtain medical marijuana for terminal & debilitating medical conditions where the doctor may recommend that the benefits of medical marijuana outweigh the risks of in order to improve a patients overall health. According to the company’s website, MarijuanaDoctors.com seeks to help patients with documented medical conditions, such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, chronic pain or any other ailment that is approved by their state of residence as a qualifying medical condition for cannabis, locate and book appointments with licensed doctors who are willing to recommend marijuana as a treatment for their ailments.

The company does not promote the casual or recreational use of marijuana or any other prescription medication. The company condones only the use of marijuana as a medication for recognized ailments in accordance with state law, as it believes it is a proven treatment for many medical conditions. 20 states and Washington, DC have legalized medical marijuana for specific terminal and debilitating conditions. MarijuanaDoctors.com was founded as the trusted gateway for patients searching for medical marijuana treatment in legal medical marijuana states. The company provides patients visibility and transparency in selecting a doctor and setting an appointment for a medical marijuana evaluation including detailed profile information, scheduling information, and ratings and reviews. MD understands the uncertainty associated with the process and that medical marijuana is often the only effective treatment for many ailments for which traditional medicine provides little relief or is accompanied by uncomfortable and dangerous side effects.

MD is dedicated to legitimizing the process for the booking and selection of medical marijuana doctors by standardizing the criteria and selection process for doctors allowed to join the company’s trusted network of quality physicians. MD also focuses on providing comprehensive scheduling and marketing services for doctors that are both already established medical marijuana physicians and those looking to expand practices into alternative medicine.

Marijuana Movies |

Marijuana and the movies have had a long, mostly potent relationship. Cannabis has inspired any number of cinematic artists, and it’s important to note how public perception of pot has changed throughout the years, with evolving laws and a recent explosion of smoker-friendly content. Marijuana has been used in an erudite fashion by filmmakers, woven into the narrative like a character in Curtis Hanson’s masterpiece Wonder Boys, the iconic Coen brothers sensation The Big Lebowski, and the underrated Leaves of Grass. Oliver Stone’s entire cannon feels especially indebted to ganja, as does Terry Gilliam’s psychotropic adaptation of Hunter Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Self-professed cannabis enthusiast Robert Altman left a misty haze over much of his work, most notably The Long Goodbye, California Split, and M*A*S*H, while his protégé, Paul Thomas Anderson, crafted a pot-infused ode to private eye cinema with Inherent Vice.

F. Gary Gray’s sly, smart, and hilarious pot comedy Friday still stands as one of the most influential cannabis narratives. The Seth Rogen/Judd Apatow connection has helped to legitimize marijuana to the masses, with box-office hits Pineapple Express and Knocked Up majorly emphasizing marijuana, treating it like a character as much as any of the leading actors. Musical biopic spoof Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story has some hilarious moments concerning reefer, the two Neighbors movies nearly give off a contact high, and the meta-comedy This Is The End carried a lit-joint torch of pro-pot components. Let’s not forget Danny McBride getting stoned with some sheep in Your Highness, which shared the skunky whiffs of 80’s cult-classics Krull and The Beastmaster.

High school comedies have consistently thrown marijuana into the equation, with Amy Heckerling’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused standing as cultural touchstones. Nearly all of Kevin Smith’s films seem to have been born out of a cloud of bong smoke, with the Jay and Silent Bob characters feeling like zeitgeist-tapping creations of cannabis-happy comedy. Greg Araki’s Smiley Face with Anna Faris is one of the more perceptive and giggle-inducing movies to feature a stoner at its center, while Jonathan Levine’s unique 90’s time capsule The Wackness painted a portrait of people’s lives fully dictated by marijuana, and how it can be used both for good and bad. Written by Nick Clement.

Birthplace: Winterset, Iowa, USA. Arguably the most popular – and certainly the busiest – movie leading man in Hollywood history, John Wayne entered the film business while working as a laborer on the Fox lot during summer vacations from U.S.C., which he attended on a football scholarship. Wayne was cast in small roles in Ford’s late-’20s films, occasionally under the name Duke Morrison. It was Ford who recommended Wayne to director Raoul Walsh for the male lead in the 1930 epic Western The Big Trail, and, although it was a failure at the box office, the movie showed Wayne’s potential as a leading man. It was in action roles that Wayne excelled, exuding a warm and imposing manliness onscreen to which both men and women could respond.

In 1939, Ford cast Wayne as the Ringo Kid in the adventure Stagecoach, a brilliant Western of modest scale but tremendous power, and the actor finally showed what he could do. Wayne nearly stole a picture filled with Oscar-caliber performances, and his career was made. He starred in most of Ford’s subsequent major films, whether Westerns; war pictures; or serious dramas. Most of these films were extremely successful, and included such titles as Angel and the Badman, Island in the Sky, The High and the Mighty, and Hondo. The 1958 Western Rio Bravo, directed by Howard Hawks, proved so popular that it was remade by Hawks and Wayne twice, once as El Dorado and later as Rio Lobo.

At the end of the 1950s, Wayne began taking on bigger films, most notably The Alamo, which he produced and directed, as well as starred in. During the early ’60s, concerned over the growing liberal slant in American politics, Wayne emerged as a spokesman for conservative causes, especially support for America’s role in Vietnam, which put him at odds with a new generation of journalists and film critics. McLintock!, which, despite well-articulated statements against racism and the mistreatment of Native Americans, and in support of environmentalism, seemed to confirm the left’s worst fears, but also earned more than ten million dollars and made the list of top-grossing films of 1963-1964.
