John Cleese caught talking about ‘marijuana caravans’ live on GMB

Monty Python actor John Cleese was caught in the act on live TV this morning. It all unfolded during John’s interview with hosts Charlotte Hawkins and Ben Shephard, who tried to start their segment but the actor was completely unaware they had returned from the advert break and were live on-air. John completely missed the cue and is heard saying: ‘There’s this extraordinary caravan which is powered almost entirely by marijuana or something. In the midst of uneasy laughter, Ben joked: ‘That’s how we should start an interview at all times. Realising what had happened, John suddenly broke into an awkward smile and swivelled around in his chair, almost like a school kid who’d been caught talking about something naughty.

Seriously, we need to know more about those marijuana caravans, John. Reacting to John’s gaffe, a viewer tweeted: ‘You need your own whole show interview – 5 minutes wasn’t nearly enough. The trio managed to gloss over the awkward moment but not for long as the comedian later launched into a tirade about his plans to leave the ‘corrupt’ UK. Not holding back, John ranted: ‘I’m going to buzz off in November because I’m fed up of the corruption in this country. ‘In particular, with just how awful the newspapers are and the way they censor news so people in England don’t know certain things, particularly anything critical of them. ‘I don’t think you can run a democracy until you have reasonably reliable information out there to help people make up their mind how they’re going to vote. MORE: John Cleese is leaving the UK in November because he’s ‘fed up of corruption and awful newspapers’.

MORE: John Cleese shocks R4 listeners with homophobic slur and explains why he’s ‘fed up’ with Britain.

Revolutionary Clinics Offers Marijuana-Themed Comedy

Medical marijuana dispensaries are still new to Somerville, and Revolutionary Clinics-recently opened in East Somerville-is aiming to make getting educated fun. The dispensary hosts patient education nights every Thursday, and this week is hosting a free, marijuana-themed comedy show featuring comedians from Greater Boston. He’s been doing comedy since 1994, and got involved with ImprovBoston when he moved to the area in 2014. The show will feature storytelling and stand-up comedy. The performers-Laura Clark, Lauren Brown, Alan Richardson, Pamela Ross, and Wes Hazard-will share funny stories about their experiences with marijuana.

While the performance will focus more on anecdotes than straight information, Fear says that comedy is a great way to communicate about marijuana. The show is free and there’s free parking available.

Tesla’s Musk smokes marijuana on comedy podcast

Tesla’s Elon Musk provoked another twitter storm on Friday by briefly smoking marijuana on a live web show with comedian Joe Rogan. The forty-seven year old billionaire spent two and a half hours on a podcast late Thursday discussing everything from artificial intelligence and its impact on humankind to flame throwers and social media. Musk stunned investors a month back with tweets saying he had funding to take the company private for $420 per share. He then backed off from his plan saying Tesla was better off as a public company. He followed it up with fresh attacks on British cave diver Vernon Unsworth.

Neither Tesla nor Musk have commented on the Buzzfeed report. Musk apologized to Unsworth in July for similar insults he made on Twitter following the rescue of a dozen Thai schoolboys and their football coach from a cave in Thailand. The billionaire’s behavior has raised concerns about his leadership and several Wall Street analysts have called for the company to appoint a strong No. 2 to prop up Tesla’s operations and standing with investors. His followers on Twitter went into a frenzy following the podcast. Several followers questioned if it was against the company’s policy, while others mocked the CEO’s initial $420 bid, a number that has become code for marijuana.

Shares of Tesla fell 1.3 percent in trading before the bell. They have fallen about 18 percent since Musk’s tweet on taking the company private on Aug. 7.Reporting by Nivedita Balu and Ismail Shakil in Bengaluru; Writing by Sweta Singh.

Canadian clubs want to bring comedy and cannabis together

TORONTO – It’s an age-old pairing that’s sparked a subgenre of films, shows and standup acts: cannabis and comedy. Stoned audiences are often the toughest to make laugh, say standup comics, who note that what high crowds lack in audible appreciation they make up for in friendly feedback and less heckling than drinking audiences. There’s also a Toronto Cannabis Comedy Festival planned for later this month. Comedy producer Joanne Baker, who is a medical marijuana user, opened the Underground Cafe and Social Club in 2006. High comedy crowds tend to like political humour and often don’t enjoy comedy that shames people, says Baker.

Observational humour and nostalgia work well on a high crowd, notes Rita. Audiences at Baker’s club also want to see diversity onstage. Baker notes high comedy crowds are on a different mental level than those who are drinking and may seem more difficult because they’re so inside their heads. Rita embraces the challenge, noting it helps him be a better comic. You just have to be overly prepared before going onstage in front of a high crowd, he says.

Yuk Yuk’s founder Breslin says he isn’t considering allowing cannabis use in his club come Oct. 17, but most comics he knows use marijuana and some have done so before going onstage at his club. Even if comics don’t use cannabis personally, they sometimes get a contact high anyway while onstage.

Comedy and Magic Club :: Jimmy Dore

Walking through Jimmy’s Dore. This week I sopke with an outstanding comedian named Jimmy Dore. He has appeared multiple times on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Comedy Central, and the Late Late Show. Rew: I know you talk about politics a lot in your act. Jimmy: Well, I don’t really talk about politics. Like, I’ll talk about healthcare or I’ll talk about the banking fiasco or the oil thing.

Rew: I am proud to say that after three years of interviews that is the first Spiro Agnew reference. That’s what comedy club’s are supposed to be about. You talk about things that are a little more risque. The ticket booth is going to be open when they say it is going to be open and everything is right and it’s just run well and I think that is why that club is successful. I know that nobody goes to comedy clubs for food, they go there for the comedy, the comedy is always top notch, but the food there is also.

I’m not embarrassed to say half the reason I like to go down to the Comedy & Magic Club is to get the blackened salmon. Jimmy Dore will be one of the ten comedians featured on Friday, June 18th and Saturday, June 19th 2010.

Marijuana Meets Workplace Comedy

East Coast Grow, a web-based comedy series set in a Washington, D.C. dispensary, began filming in November and is expected to hit the small screen by summer, perhaps even in time for 4/20 celebrations, according to DC-based Aboveboard Productions. Aldo, the owner of the fictional dispensary, played by Greg Crowe;. Cody, the wide-eyed innocent and newest employee, played by Joe McCaughtry;. Darrin, who cares deeply about changing policy, played by David Johnson;.

Tia, who left her job in the corporate world to manage the dispensary and whose passion for social justice is fueled by the plight of her brother who is incarcerated for marijuana trafficking, played by Devin Nikki Thomas. Private recreational growing and use are also legal, but sales are not. Then there is Congress, which has the last say on DC budget matters, despite the fact that many lawmakers express open disregard for the wishes of DC voters. The show does its best to walk the tightrope of human comedy above a sea of ponderous politics. Co-creators, Matt Doherty and Amy Tasillo, are a remarkably tolerable DC power couple.

We are excited to bring this project to DC, a place known more for politics than plants. Help from D.C’s Office of Motion Picture and Television Development has not been forthcoming, and it will not allow its logo to be included in the show’s credits. East Coast Grow is an incredible opportunity to look at the social and political issues driving the new marijuana laws in DC. It’s a chance for us to use fictional story lines to share the very real experiences of members of the DC cannabis community and the challenges and opportunities they face daily.

Ryan Reynolds Producing ‘Stoned Alone’ Comedy Based on ‘Home Alone’ Movies

Clap your hands to your cheeks and scream Kevin McCallister-style-there’s a new stoner classic in the works! Inspired by everyone’s favorite Christmas movie, Home Alone, Ryan Reynolds of Deadpool and Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place fame is teaming up with Twentieth Century Fox to produce and potentially star in Stoned Alone, reports Variety. The project, which is still in early development, centers around a 20-something loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip so he gets baked at home-only to discover that thieves have broken into his house. Home Alone is the highest-grossing Christmas movie of all time and held the box office record for live action comedy until The Hangover 2. It also spawned a successful film franchise, giving rise to four more Home Alone sequels, including Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

No doubt studio execs are eager to cash in on the confluence of comedy, cannabis and hot commodity Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds, who originally hails from Canada, has proven to be a massive box-office draw and hotshot producer with the Deadpool movies, which have grossed a combined $1.5 billion worldwide. Stoned Alone was scripted from an idea by Fox executive Matt Reilly. Reynolds will produce through his Fox-based Maximum Effort production company. No release date has been announced yet, but we’ll be following this project closely to bring you updates and behind-the-scenes news.

Stoned Alone has the potential to be the best new weed comedy since Pineapple Express-hopefully, the creative team aims really, really high.

Medical Marijuana in Ohio

As September begins, Ohio’s newly formed medical marijuana program continues to be plagued by various delays and failures. As a direct result, our state’s patients, who are in dire need of the treatment cannabis provides, will have to wait even longer for the legal relief they require. On July 31, Buckeye Relief in Eastlake planted the first legal seeds, a momentous day only made possible because the cultivating facility finally received its certificate of operation from the state four days before. The state’s department of commerce can only give up to 12 of these certifications before the September 8 deadline, with potentially more on the way. Buckeye Relief is one of only three growers in the state that has been given the go ahead to start planting, with five more supposedly being allowed to start soon.

Eventually, only 26 licensed growers will be allowed to operate in the entire state. In addition to this already restrictive situation, the state had as many as 104 applications for processing center licenses, which again are necessary for transforming the crops into consumable products, but only 13 have been approved so far – and the state only intends on approving 40. On top of all of this, only 222 doctors have been given the authority to prescribe the drug, which requires a certain amount of training, and even then, there are only 21 medical conditions for which the state allows the drug to be prescribed. Bob Bridges, who sits on the state’s Medical Marijuana Advisory Committee as an advocate for patients, says the registry should be live now, because it would give growers and processors a better estimate of how many patients are looking to consume products. While many of the failed applicants in the various realms of Ohio’s faulty medical marijuana program have chances to re-apply later on down the line, it’s no mystery as to why some of the cannabis entrepreneurs here in the Buckeye State are even contemplating legal action.

The federal government has recognized up to 150 qualifying medical conditions for which cannabis can be at least researched, and those scientific studies have since found that marijuana can be used to treat up to 400 various medical conditions. At the end of the day, with so many different people understanding the various benefits of unrestricted medical marijuana utilization – from patients to scientists to journalists – it’s high time that Ohio’s state officials do the same.

How the Legal Marijuana Industry Is Helping Grow []

Comedians like Doug Benson and Stephen Colbert have been getting a lot of joke-mileage out of Colorado’s legalization of marijuana last January. The name is derived from Khalatbari’s chain of pizza restaurants, Sexy Pizza, one of which hosted the first Sexpot Comedy show early last year. The show has since grown and splintered into several regular events, hosted at different comedy clubs and music venues around town under the Sexpot banner. For years Denver has been a known destination for touring comics; the thirty-year-old Comedy Works has been proclaimed by performers like Dave Chappelle and Dave Attell as their favorite comedy club. Last summer, Juett and comedian Adam Cayton-Holland produced Denver’s first large-scale comedy festival, The High Plains Comedy Festival, which was headlined by Reggie Watts and ended up being a sold-out success.

It was Kayvan Khalatbari’s marijuana dispensary, Denver Relief, that initially sponsored several different comedy shows and podcasts around town, back when Sexpot was just a witty pun being tossed around. While this continues in some arenas, the Sexpot Comedy shows have been gaining a lucrative momentum of their own, in part thanks to Juett’s utilization of the local comedy radio station for marketing, as well as the throbbing enthusiasm coming from Colorado’s energized marijuana scene. There’s no getting around the fact that some cannabis consumption goes on at Sexpot shows, whether through edibles, vaporizers or straight-up smoldering joints. While some Denver comedians don’t care for a stoned audience Andy Juett – who himself has acted in many sketch videos and recently began performing standup – says that there are upsides to playing for a red-eyed crowd. Khalatbari shares Juett’s feeling that marijuana shouldn’t come to dominate the identity of Sexpot Comedy.

He’s derisive of the Cannabis Cup and 420 Festival culture that has become an unfortunate media focus of Colorado marijuana scene; and says that he is equally sick of the endless cosmos-and-munchies jokes that every hack comedian rolls out when performing in Denver. Josiah Hesse is an entertainment and pop culture journalist in Denver, Colorado whose work has appeared in Westword, Out Front Colorado, and comedy blogs LaughSpin, Splitsider and The Spit Take.

SPOILER ALERT. So if you don’t want to know what the movie was about don’t read this. They say a woman whose husband has done her wrong… OK, it might be morose on my part but I sort of want to know more about that, but he is dead already, and she does or doesn’t know much about what he did or didn’t do to her…except that she had to keep mailing letters to an address. She just hangs up on creditors, and throws the mail in the trash and goes around the village like normal…though the neighbors know all about it.

Her gardener, a man that seems to never have held a steady job, has no money, no property; but who is shacking up with a pretty woman who works as a fisherman; is trying to grow pot under other people’s bushes. The plants aren’t doing well, and because this woman, Grace, grows orchids he decides she is a wiz with plants and asks her for help. So they go out in the dead of night, and crawl under bushes and she brings one back, saying she knows they are pot. They harvest it, somewhere in it an ex-fling of her husband keeps showing her face and Grace decides to make friends and THEN gets angry and throws her out when she finds out that her husband had sex and enjoyed it with her. She can’t so now she decides for sure the ex-girlfriend will know a dealer and goes there expecting help.

IF the husband spent any money on this woman, and it would make sense he did; it was never even hinted at in this movie. A dealer comes to the adulterer’s house, he is not big enough, so they get him to take them to a dealer big enough…and it is a pitiful attempt to make the BIG drug dealer look menacing, and totally fails. I can’t really tell how much money it is, or if it will cover Grace’s money needs…all we are given is Grace’s face looking happy and excited. Grace already knew this while she was getting him to help her do this.

Mailing pot across state lines is an incredibly bad idea, according to Erik Altieri, executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. Under the Controlled Substances Act – which was signed into law by President Richard Nixon in 1970 to regulate the manufacture, possession and use of certain drugs – marijuana is a Schedule 1 drug. Drug trafficking penalties vary depending on the schedule of the drug being trafficked and the amount. For less than 50 kilograms of marijuana, the maximum penalty for the first offense is up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000 for a single individual. For the second offense, the maximum penalty doubles: up to 10 years behind bars and a fine not to exceed $500,000.

The DEA lists penalties for more serious crimes on its website. These penalties can apply to both sender and recipient. Marijuana is also the most commonly seized drug by postal inspectors. In fiscal year 2014, inspectors seized 39,301 pounds of marijuana. That number dropped to 34,305 in 2015, the first full fiscal year for which medical marijuana was legal in Colorado and Washington.

Jersey City to Decriminalize Marijuana

Marijuana laws in Jersey City go up in smoke as of Thursday, July 19, as Mayor Steven Fulop and Chief Prosecutor Jake Hudnut direct all Jersey City prosecutors to cease prosecuting marijuana possession cases before the municipal courts. Jersey City will be the first in New Jersey to put forward a policy to address decriminalization on a local level, in the hopes of guiding other towns across the state to enact similar changes to outdated marijuana policies. As the state continues to pass around various versions of a marijuana decriminalization program, Jersey City simply took it upon themselves to spark their own effort. According to the City, there are more than 25,000 arrests for marijuana possession each year in New Jersey-and it is estimated that prosecution following these arrests has cost the state well more than $1 billion each decade in policing, court operations, probation, and jailing.

Growing marijuana 101: How your pot is being produced ahead of legalization

With recreational marijuana legalization around the corner, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes. The world’s biggest medical marijuana producer gave Global News a behind the scene look to show us how they are prepping for the big day. Mom plants are grown from seeds and they give life to hundreds of other marijuana plants. As they grow, clippings of the mom plant are dipped in a rooting solution and planted in small soil pods. High humidity, instead of watering, allows the clone plants to slowly absorb small drops of water.

The plant’s genetic make-up acts as its blueprint, but its environment plays a major role, too. Depending on the plant, you can have pot that keeps you awake or have pot that makes you relax and sleepy. Once the flowers have matured, the plants are then harvested and sent to the trimming room. Once it’s legalized, it’s expected there will be a big demand for legal pot, so Canopy Growth has three eight-hour shifts, producing five- to 10-gram packages, or filling bottles and soft gel tablets with oil. Justin Trudeau promised that recreational marijuana legalization would come Oct. 17.

Canopy Growth isn’t the only producer getting ready. Producers across the country are working at full throttle, producing millions of dollars’ worth of pot to meet the new demand.

Working to Reform Marijuana Laws

For the past 12 years, Chong’s partner has been his wife, Shelby, a comedienne in her own right. For one thing, Cheech and Chong never danced salsa, merenge and tango. After the duo split up, Chong directed and appeared in Far Out Man and Best Buds. Chong has continued to be active in the film and TV industry, not only as an actor but frequently as writer, director and producer. His detention caused an uproar among his fans and sparked a Free Tommy Chong!

movement. AKA Tommy Chong – a documentary written and directed by filmmaker Josh Gilbert about the legal battle and jail time – premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Stan Chong bought a $500 house in Dog Patch and raised his family on $50 a week. Chong started playing guitar at age 11, and when he was 18 formed Canada’s first R&B band called The Shades. Chong went on to form Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers, which became Motown’s first racially mixed band.

Shortly after Chong left the Vancouvers, he met Cheech Marin in 1969. Chong became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. in the late 1980s. Chong has five children: actress Rae Dawn and actress/producer Robbi Keene from his first marriage; actress/comedienne Precious Burger and sons Paris and Gilbran, both musicians, from his marriage to Shelby.

How to Act High

To prepare for a role in which you must act high, there are certain steps to pull off the performance, beginning with research. While acting high you could find it difficult to pour a cup of coffee. Practice getting into the high character by play acting with a partner, making up only one or a few lines at a time. It doesn’t matter where the story leads you, the important part is you act high the whole time, according to the bio you previously wrote about your character. Entertain yourself while practicing for the role of a marijuana user by playing a game while acting high.

Watch relevant examples of thespians acting high for a role. The best way to learn how to act high is to watch other actors do it. You can best prepare to act high by recording your sessions. If you live in a place where marijuana use is legal, you can see how to act high firsthand by watching others smoke the plant or ingest it through edibles. Prepare for your role by keeping a notebook during your high experience to later remember your thoughts while high and by recording the session to later watch your behaviors and mannerisms.

Someone might want to act high for a play, a prank, or some other kind of performance. Deliberately acting high should be saved for acting roles, not everyday life.

A Sea of Green (Marijuana Crime Drama/Full Movie)

Medical Marijuana: The Evidence Providence, Rhode Island Motif Magazine

The use of marijuana for medicinal purposes has a long history. Marijuana tea was prescribed in ancient China as early as 2700BC and the plant’s use for medicinal purposes spread throughout Asia, the Middle East and East Africa. The Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Agency have classified marijuana as a schedule I substance. The FDA has approved two drugs that contain a synthetic version of a substance contained in marijuana and one drug that contains a substance that mimics the action of a compound found in marijuana. The FDA has not approved marijuana itself as a safe and effective drug for any indication.

Despite the FDA classification, multiple reviews of medical literature suggest marijuana may be effective in treating other diseases. A clinical review from June 2015 published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reviewed 28 randomized clinical trials that investigated the effectiveness of marijuana in the treatment of chronic pain, neuropathic pain and spasticity due to multiple sclerosis. Several of the trials had positive results and suggest that marijuana and cannabinoids may have some benefit in treating these conditions. A number of major medical associations have weighed in on the potential of marijuana for medical use. They do not advocate for the use of medical marijuana for neurological disorders at this time, citing the need for more research.

Many doctors are now advocating for the use of medical marijuana when indicated. He did caution that there is still much we do not know about marijuana and echoed the call for more research.

Great but Forgotten: Firesign Theater

The record supplying the music was done, and I put another one one. They were a group of four writers/performers who started out doing radio plays and quickly graduated to records. They were as big a revolution in comedy as Monty Python’s Flying Circus, who were starting out around the same time. The group took its name from astrology – all four members were Fire Signs* – with a nod to the old Fireside Theater radio show. They took the conventions of radio drama and added psychedelic sensibilities and wove it all into a dense collection of comic brilliance.

They would stop to listen if they had said thing on the other side of the record, and one half of a phone conversation on one album would have the other half showing up on another. They started out in radio on the west coast, but were signed with Columbia Records, and put out their first album, Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him in 1968. The Further Adventures of Nick Danger, Third Eye is a parody of radio detective shows, with the hero meeting a Peter Lorre type mysterious man. The next album, I Think We’re All Bozos on This Bus was a slight dropoff. Their next album, Not Insane was a disappointment, and they never really recovered, even though they did some good work afterwards.

The group remains together today, doing live shows of their work, and the various permutations also released albums over the years. For their first three albums, they put forth a brand of comedy that was all their own.

Stoner comedies like Half-Baked and Friday have some distinct similarities to Atlanta. In a few short episodes, Atlanta has already shown itself to be far deeper than your average stoner comedy with its unique style and grander cultural aspirations. The distinct humor of stoner comedies comes from two places. Uses both of these stoner comedy tools to its advantage. The plotting of Atlanta also feels of a piece with stoner comedies.

The first character we meet besides Earn is Vanessa, the mother of Earn’s child and the person with the unenviable duty of nagging him into responsibility. Though Vanessa has far more dimension than the average stoner comedy girlfriend, like many nagging girlfriends before her, she is here to tell Peter Pan to grow up. We also get moments with Earn’s parents to set up the age-old conflict in stoner comedy-the family that wants our hero to grow up versus the friends who want our hero to smoke up. Though Atlanta uses all of these stoner comedy tropes, this series goes further. The absurd fever dreams of stoner comedy are usually used just for laughs.

After the bus incident, Earn sees a dog that he later sees before the gas station shootout, and we something about the dog resonates with us, we see Earn in the stray dog’s eyes. The various conversations that pop up as Earn waits at the police station in episode two address various issues in the criminal justice system.

Medical Marijuana Is Not Compassionate Comedy

Report: 1 in 5 Mass. adults use marijuana

BOSTON – About 21 percent of adults in Massachusetts have used marijuana in the last 30 days, and of those who have consumed the drug, about a third reported having driven under the influence, according to a new Department of Public Health report. The study found that more than half of adults in Massachusetts perceive marijuana to have slight or no risks, and more than half of marijuana users consume it for non-medical purposes. The DPH reported that 26 percent of men and 17 percent of women have used marijuana in the last month, a total of roughly 21 percent of adults in the state. The study, required by the marijuana law legislators put on the books a year ago, began in early 2017 and found that the rate of marijuana use is greatest among people aged 18 to 25. DPH said baseline data suggest that about 7 percent of all adults drove under the influence of marijuana in the past 30 days and that about 12 percent of all adults rode with a driver who was under the influence of marijuana.

Nearly 35 percent of adults who reported using marijuana in the past 30 days also reported driving under the influence of marijuana, DPH said. There is currently no roadside test, similar to a breathalyzer test for alcohol, for law enforcement to check for marijuana impairment. Legal non-medical marijuana sales were expected to start July 1 in Massachusetts, but that target will not be met. The Cannabis Control Commission meets Monday and is expected to license the state’s first retail marijuana shop. In total, 3,022 individuals responded to the survey, DPH said.

About 71 percent of the state’s marijuana users are white, 12 percent are Hispanic, 7 percent are black and 3 percent are Asian, the report found. The report said white non-Hispanic men and people between ages 18 and 20 have the highest prevalence of marijuana use.

Marijuana-friendly campuses? I don’t think so

In the run-up to the legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada on Oct. 17, 2018, many universities and colleges are still in a wait-and-see position concerning marijuana use on campus. TRU’s 20-person Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, of which I am a member, unanimously voted on March 5, 2018, to ban all smoking of marijuana products on campus – for health and safety reasons. Pro-marijuana smokers on the TRU committee argued that marijuana smoke is no different than cigarette smoke and that smoking areas designated for cigarette smoke should also be used for marijuana. Naïve bystanders cannot tell the potency of the marijuana smoked just by smell alone. Most animal studies demonstrate the ease with which such second- hand marijuana smoke can negatively affect behaviour.

Very few know that marijuana smoke has 300 to 500 per cent more carcinogens than tobacco smoke. Marijuana has been linked to addiction, drops in grades, slips and falls and car accidents. The JOHSC at Thompson Rivers University is considering individual ingestion of medical marijuana – via brownies, gummy bears or pills – on campus because the consumption of such medicinal products doesn’t negatively impact others directly. Marijuana is an intoxicant and therefore is analogous to drinking alcohol on campus. Smoking marijuana should therefore fall under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act Section 40, 1996, chapter 267.

As TRU did not allow the open consumption of alcohol in public places on campus, neither would it allow marijuana to be smoked on campus. Marijuana has been linked to impaired motor co-ordination, altered judgment and risky sexual behaviour.

High Maintenance Archives

Joel Fernando, a Brooklyn filmmaker with hipster hair and bright red aviators, pitched his marijuana venture at a popular Colorado Springs coffee shop, reports Rebecca Celli of The Colorado Independent. Fernando’s plan is two-fold: to start up a major pot production operation in Colorado and to chronicle his process for a new web series, to be distributed by Slate this January,. The series will explore Fernando’s business endeavor through numerous short documentary installments. Each episode will be less than 10 minutes, and will feature people and policies central to Colorado’s budding marijuana economy. Fernando is not the first aspiring marijuana entrepreneur to drive cross-country on a whim.

He’s also not the first young urban filmmaker to create a pot-oriented web series. If New York is the fifth character in Sex and the City, then pot is the third in the YouTube web series turned half-hour-long Comedy Central show, Broad City. The series, which follows the female twenty-somethings in New York City trope, is known for its crude humor and memorable scenes of pot-smoking through Skype. The episodes of High Maintenance, the most intricate rendition of the pot web series trend, are the well-crafted vignettes of diverse New Yorkers – middle-aged bird watchers, Passover seder-goers, couch surfers, a cross-dressing father – all subtly bound together by the narrative of a nameless pot delivery man. The best web series sell out, or at least begin to sell.

Slate, the distributor of Fernando’s series, publishes stories commenting on all of these shows. As for Joel Fernando, his upcoming series will be free and relatively unpublicized.

“Road Trip” – Gabriel Iglesias- (From Hot & Fluffy comedy special)

Radical Acts: The Art of Cheech Marin

Cheech Marin was from a quick-witted family where you had to be on stage to get a word in at the dinner table. Cheech remembers South Central as being easier for him, racially, in a Biography Channel documentary about his life. Father Oscar respected his adult son’s right to make the decision for himself, and Cheech was later granted immunity from federal prosecution and returned to LA. The dope comedy and films of Cheech and Chong that rode a rocket to fame in the 1960s and ’70s, by the 1980s, had played out. Knowing this helps put what would come later into perspective, as Cheech relied on his analytical mind, rapid-fire consciousness, and spirit of personal revolution, to re-find his audience and step from being a performer in a role to that of a guide and leader amidst a complex social and cultural environment.

Born in East LA, is a parable about immigration that nails our current discourse and policies because that’s what Cheech saw around him. It is this inequity that sparked a response from the largest and, as Cheech says, wealthiest generation. Cheech came into the studio at High Times Magazine to be interviewed by David Burkart on a variety of topics. These short video clips provide an insightful understanding of the thought process of Cheech Marin, the man, and the artist, though the art of his own making. Cheech Marin, the artist, teaches us more radical acts, remaining faithful to the craft, and to the inner journey, from a time when many, not just a few, were shot down cold in the streets.

Here we might see in the same frame, Cheech’s escape from stereotypes, labels, typecasting, racial conflicts, cultural restraints, political myopia, the country as a whole, the fog of war, stoner roles, the cops, and finally, as understood through his works and time. Cheech Marin’s cultural legacy is to be included. It may be reviewed and enjoyed through his personal collection and long embrace of Chicano art, documenting the cultural perspective of Americans as a movement and as peoples, at The Cheech Marin Center of the Riverside Art Museum.

How much marijuana can you possess in Massachusetts? Here are the restrictions.

After the passage of a November ballot measure, recreational marijuana is now legal in Massachusetts. While state lawmakers voted to delay the opening of recreational marijuana stores until June 2018 – which still makes it technically illegal to sell marijuana – possessing, consuming and growing marijuana is now allowed under state law. Here’s what you need to know about the law’s limitations, as specified in the text of the Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act, before enjoying the benefits of the new law. According to the Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act, it is now legal for residents aged 21 and over to possess, use, purchase, process and manufacture up to one ounce of marijuana. Residents, the law states, can possess up to 10 ounces of marijuana in their personal residence; however, any amount over one ounce must be secured by a lock.

The law also allows residents to assist other adults over the age of 21 with marijuana purchase, manufacture, use or possession, and also makes it legal for a Massachusetts resident to give away or transfer up to one ounce of marijuana to another adult. Once Massachusetts residents have their legal marijuana there are some restrictions on where they can use it. The law also specifies that individuals cannot consume or hold marijuana and marijuana accessories on public or private school property where children attend preschool, kindergarten or grades 1-12, or on the property of a correctional facility. The law also has strict restrictions on marijuana usage and motor vehicles. Massachusetts cannabis enthusiasts who choose to grow their own plants will also face restrictions under the Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act.

Residents can have up to six marijuana plants for personal use at their primary residence, the law dictates, but a household cannot grow more than 12 total marijuana plants at once. In total, residents may possess up to 10 ounces of marijuana and any marijuana that is cultivated by the plants on their premises at their primary residence.

Marijuana businesses to go before Planning Board

FITCHBURG – Five marijuana businesses looking for approval to sell, cultivate, or process in the city will go before the Planning Board Tuesday night. The public hearings will take place at 6 p.m. at the Fitchburg Fire Department headquarters community room at 33 North St. Existing medical dispensaries Revolutionary Clinics on Oakhill Road and Garden Remedies on Airport Road are seeking site plan review to cultivate and process recreational marijuana. It has one floor to grow medical marijuana and another with a commercial kitchen to manufacture marijuana products.

The company went before the Planning Board a few weeks ago to receive approval to grow on the upper floors of its industrial space, O’Hara said. Garden Remedies has been producing medical marijuana in the city since 2016. He said it received board approval before the city had a medical marijuana ordinance. The board will also consider special permits and site plan review for Colonial Cannabis to open an adult-use retail store on Water Street and medical cultivation and processing businesses for Cypress Tree Management on Westminster Street and Native Sun Wellness on Industrial Road. Special permit approval requires a two-thirds vote from the board, O’Hara said.

Boston-based Cypress Tree Management has plans for a nearly 50,000 square-foot facility at 431 Westminster St., he said. If the businesses receive approval from the Planning Board, O’Hara said, they will be able to move forward with building plans. To open, the businesses will need certification or licensing from the state Department of Public Health for medical marijuana or the Cannabis Control Commission for the sale of recreational marijuana. O’Hara said the Planning Board has already reviewed and approved at least six applicants with marijuana businesses. Applicants have told him that Fitchburg seems to be a good place for the marijuana business.
