Highly Hilarious: Top 10 Cannabis Comedians

One of the official ‘Pot Comics’ working today and the Bongmeister behind the landmark marijuana documentary, ‘Super High Me’ and the theatre piece, The Marijuana-Logues, Doug works all over the world now. “A lot of good has come from drugs. I think ‘Penny Lane’ is worth 10 dead kids. Dark Side of the Moon is worth 100 dead kids. Because a lot of kids wouldn’t even be born if it weren’t for that album, so it evens out.” Speaking of political comics, I wouldn’t call Bill Maher a “Pot Comic,” even though he’s probably been more vocal than any other performer this side of Tommy Chong when it comes to the marijuana question as national issue. What can you say about George Carlin? The first real significant pot comic that brought home the message to the masses that maybe, just maybe, drugs can be funny. For many of us, something happened to us, after Mr. Carlin’s transitioned from button-down comic of the Eisenhower era to long-hair free-form artist that we grew to know and love in the late Sixties or early Seventies.

Comedy and tragedy: When the GOP debate turned to marijuana

“There is at least one prominent example on the stage of someone who says they smoked pot in high school, and yet the people going to – to jail for this are poor people, often African-Americans and often Hispanics, and yet the rich kids who use drugs aren’t.” “So, 40 years ago, I smoked marijuana, and I admit it. I’m sure that other people might have done it and may not want to say it in front of 25 million people. My mom’s not happy that I just did.” “People’s families are – are being torn apart. It is appropriate for the government to play a consistent role to be able to provide more treatment, more prevention – we’re the state that has the most drug courts across every circuit in – in – in Florida, there are drug courts to give people a second chance.” “I agree with Senator Paul. I agree with states’ rights. But we are misleading young people when we tell them that marijuana is just like having a beer. It’s not. And the marijuana that kids are smoking today is not the same as the marijuana that Jeb Bush smoked 40 years ago.” “We do – sorry, Barbara. We do need – we do need criminal justice reform. We have the highest incarceration rates in the world. Two-thirds of the people in our prisons are there for non-violent offenses, mostly drug related. It’s clearly not working.”

An Interview with TJ Miller About His Latest Gig, the First Openly Cannabis-Themed Comedy Tour

He’s the guy from Silicon Valley and Yogi Bear 3D. The Leafly Cannabis Comedy tour kicks off in Seattle at the Crocodile on January 2, with an opening act by Emmett Montgomery. I understand this is “The world’s first-ever cannabis comedy tour”? What makes it a cannabis comedy tour? Obviously comedians smoke a lot of weed, and weed makes you think things are funny, but. That’s the new thing to talk about! No one’s talkin’ about that on the cannabis tour! That’s the way I’m going to be different. So that’s the thing, I don’t talk about weed so much as I perform material that’s very fun to watch high. You gotta take an extra beat waiting for them to be like, “Ohhhh yeahhh!” Sometimes you get that, but other times people are high and the more bizarre I get, the more I riff, the more they’re into it.

Netflix Orders Chuck Lorre and Kathy Bates Pot Comedy

On Wednesday, the streaming giant ordered to series Disjointed, a new comedy from The Big Bang Theory’s Chuck Lorre set at an L.A.-based pot dispensary. The series, which was originally shopped around to the networks before landing at Netflix, is a multi-camera comedy co-written by Lorre and David Javerbaum. In addition to Bates’ pot-shop owner, the workplace comedy will feature the shop’s three budtenders, Bates’ character’s 20-something-year-old son and the shop’s security guard. Netflix points out that all characters will be “More or less constantly high.” Disjointed is Netflix’s third multi-cam series, the first two being the Ashton Kutcher-led series The Ranch and the wildly successful Fuller House.

Judge Doobie: on the set of The High Court with Doug Benson

When visiting the set of the new Comedy Central series The High Court with Doug Benson – a parody of daytime courtroom shows such as Judge Judy – the thing that stood out was the ventilation system designed to filter out smoke. Benson, a standup comic best known for his podcast Getting Doug with High and the documentary Super High Me, is the drug-fueled mind behind the new series. Plus, as Benson puts it, “Sound stages have very high ceilings, so the smoke would just float up, up and away”. Each of the 20 first season episodes of the High Court is a scant 15 minutes long, making it feel more like a deep cut Adult Swim show than the standard Comedy Central fare. The High Court with Doug Benson starts at midnight tonight ET on Comedy Central.
